Rc Monster Electric Conversion

Hey. Figured hear with you who knows on what's up.
Should convert one baja 5b.
Bought Rc Monster Electric Conversion Kit - HPI Baja 5B and a new ss.
Should run with Castle motor / esc.
Will buy as large lipo as it can fit so I get long runtime.
What contacts should I use, Traxxas TRX, 8mm bullet or what do you recommend.
I think i go for 8 cells lipo(2x4 cells)
Is there anything else I should consider before I start to build?
Thanks

So far I have come now, waiting for the esc / motor from Castle.

You may need to customize the brace above the battery box as it interferes with the batteries.

painter 10.04.2012 10:30 AM

I took my dremel and cut it off.
Are there any that are pre modded to buy?
Or can i run without?

Arct1k 10.04.2012 02:04 PM

I ran it like that with no issues. Mikes conversion stiffens up the rear a lot.

The castle brace also works if you could get one.

_paralyzed_ 10.04.2012 07:54 PM

Hey Painter, I just realized that you are over here at rc-monster as well as on the baja forums.

This site is where I'm usually at, I call it my "home" for online r/c.

I can't wait to see your 5b run. Get ready to go through tires quickly!

painter 10.05.2012 12:32 PM

I bought hpi Flux org crossbar, hope it fits.
Should have PhatDad Billet Engine Brace Kit so it will be good enough.
Hope castle come soon:whip:

painter 10.06.2012 05:17 AM

Ok now the esc and motor come soon.
Sitt and thought about how to connect everything.
Should run with hpi org brake and CC Probec.
How do I pair the receiver?
CC bec in the B / C, steering servo in 1.
But where do I connect esc and brake servo?
Should I put it in No. 2 with a split?
I have a Futaba 3 PM 2,4G.
Thanks.

Arct1k 10.06.2012 09:13 AM

Get the hitec 1/4 servo and a castle bec pro please

No need for a brake servo IMO...

painter 10.06.2012 10:06 AM

Want to avoid the heat generated from braking force.
Then go esc and motor cooler.
And I'll run with CC Probec, Savöx 7.4 steering servo.
Do you not think its a good ide?

It's fine if you want to run mechanical brakes, it just isn't necessary. The esc will not overheat or overload if you use standard esc braking. It's just more simple not to use a splitter + servo + brake.

You are right, just plug a splitter into slot 2 and plug the esc + brake servo into the splitter.

Arct1k 10.07.2012 08:04 AM

Its not needed the ESC and motor are not stressed under 60mph...

It just adds extra complexity - Unless you go fancy on brakes they are likely to overheat themselves.

Personally I direct wire the servo to the BEC and have the ESC power the RX. I makes it easier for connecting to the castle link.

_paralyzed_ 10.07.2012 02:40 PM

I run the hitec servo and motor brakes, NO bec and NO problems.

painter 10.07.2012 02:44 PM

I think I may test without mechanical brake and see if it will be good.
You've tested so it should go fine.
And it's much easier to connect everything.
Thanks

_paralyzed_ 10.07.2012 03:02 PM

I also run a hitec servo off the esc, which makes things much simpler.

People have been running "HV" servos at 7.4v because 7.4 is a bigger number than 6.

A hitec servo at 6 volts is plenty strong enough to turn the wheels. People just like to brag about bigger numbers.

Arct1k 10.07.2012 10:54 PM

Use a castle bec pro. Every truck now has a castle bec independent of th ESC be it a micro, micro pro, mm, mm pro, mmm or mmmm (I have them all in use).

I saves trouble in the long run.

painter 10.12.2012 11:41 PM

Got my esc and motor today.
Does stands that you should have on / off button off when starting esc?
Where is the on / off button located ?

_paralyzed_ 10.13.2012 01:22 AM

There is no on/off button. The esc turns on when you plug the battery in and shuts off when you unplug the battery. Those instructions were printed for previous controllers that did have a switch. Just ignore the switch part.

There will be a large spark when you plug in the battery. Do not be alarmed at this, it is normal.

painter 10.13.2012 02:57 AM

Thanks man.
That's what I thought, just wanted to be sure so I do not destroy anything directly.

painter 10.19.2012 09:27 AM

Now it is ready.
Premiere tomorrow.
Hope that the boy comes with and film a bit so you can see what happened.

Looks like you had a ton of fun. Now get cleaning.

Water sealed my new esc today.
Took CorrisionX and dipped the whole esc, in it.
Have done so with a Mamba Monster before and it worked very well.
Hope this will be good for soon the snow come.
Some pictures of this ....
The last picture is when I ran the E-Maxx on 6 cells.

Had to do a little cleaning.
