Whats your 1:1 car? Daily or Weekend toy?
So I'm curious what the RC buffs of this forum drive. Me? I like going fast, and even in my daily driver I want some power. Otherwise I'd probably drive the smallest most fuel efficient hatch I could find.
Instead I bought a G6 GTP 6spd manual. The manual was REALLY hard to find. My absolute cannot be dimissed requirement for a car is that it must be a manual transmission. I've had enough of Automatic transmissions and have decided no more for me. So I have my 06' G6 GTP. 3.9L V6. A modest 240hp and 240lb/ft torque, but ever so much fun with the manual. I've run it at Road America, I've auto-x'd it, and I've drag raced it. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8363/8...5b630af6_c.jpg Untitled by thirdgen89gta, on Flickr The other car is my baby. The one that sits in my sig. A 1989 Pontiac TransAm, originally a 240hp and 340lb/ft torque 5.7L "TPI" V8 engine with an automatic 4spd. The auto was okay, but not much fun. I later swapped in a 5.7L/4L60e out of a 1995 camaro and with bolt-ons it regularly ran low 13's at 103mph. It was amazing to watch such a super tame sounding car get up and go compared to other factory cars with the same engine combo. Before the year ended last year I swapped in a T56 6spd manual transmission and life was good. But then old-age struck and the short block developed a knock. This year I get serious. A rebuilt shortblock with ARP hardware thoughout, balanced and blue-printed rotating assembly, increased compression to 11:1, ported heads/intake/throttle body, a 231/239 duration camshaft, upgraded fuel system to feed it too. Along with lowering, del-a-lum bushings up front, and UMI Tubular "roto-joint" suspension pieces out back. Also being upgraded are the brakes to a larger diameter rotor and better calipers, pads, and fluid. The goal is for the braking system to keep up with 30minute sessions where I'm stopping from 155mph 3x every 2:40 or so. End goal this year is between 420rwhp, and 440rwhp. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8444/7...b48e6f9b_c.jpg Untitled by thirdgen89gta, on Flickr Its not the fastest thing on the planet, but it sure is fun to drive. My Whip...
I don't like to post my ride on the internet because not everyone can afford my lifestyle. Everybody is pretty chill at Rc-M so I think I can share without too many people hating on me.
A lot of people wouldn't use my vehicle as a daily driver, saying I'm just showing off, but oh well. My street/strip auto has the potent and downright nasty 2 valve aluminum block 4.6l modular v-8. On pump gas I'm pushing 190hp/270 ft lbs of torque. It's got a bulletproof 4r70w 3 speed with overdrive transmission, with custom glazing so it shakes violently when shifting into overdrive. Custom titanium plugs because 3 of the 8 stockers were seized in the aluminum block when replaced needing heli-coils. The titanium is supposed to not seize. Body wise I added a custom crinkled drivers front fender when I hit a deer. (the thing splattered and popped my air bags- no more airbags...) And my dad who has been a mechanic his whole life added some sweet scratches to the rear doors when he pushed me out of a ditch with his minneapolis moline tractor. In the interior I have a gaping hole in the dash where the alpine head unit used to be, I traded it for r/c stuff. When I drive it, it gets 13mpg. When my dad drives it, it gets 17mpg. My dad has always been fuel efficient. She'll run high 19's in the 1/8 mile at about 36mph all day. It's hard to say I'd change anything about her, she's my baby. I am looking into swapping out the old oil for some new stuff. It's been about 2500 miles since the last swap. This isn't a joke, this is an actual pic of the back of my sick hoopty- http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l...05be97cdf7.jpg Haters gonna hate...:na: |
Well I'm still trying to get my project car together - The hope was it would be ready for last summer but that came and went so really hoping that it can get sorted for this year...
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...1/c9c6f305.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...1/4cdad772.jpg Sold off about 60% of my RC collection and just kept a few favourites. I'll probably try to reduce that down a bit further in due course. |

I'm glad you chimed in Arct1k! I was wondering how the exo car was coming along.
I sent you a picture of a sweet cf wing on an exo car. I think it added about 50 visual horsepowers!:intello: |
Quit showing off Harold....
I drive a 2007 Dodge Caliber. 2.0L with a CVT (continuously variable transmission). I like it, does well in the snow, pretty fuel efficient at about 25mpg. Decent amount of cargo room for RCs and junk. Price was pretty good too, bought it used this past July. This is my newest car ever, previously drove a 95 Mercury tracer, and before that a 90 pontiac grand am (both had pain peeling off). https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...26791699_n.jpg |

I understand the concept of the CVT keeping the engine in the optimum range, I think it performs pretty well from the few times I got on it. Already has 90k on it (only 3k from me). So as long as the tranny holds up decently long I'll be happy. But the general population doesn't seem to like the CVT. Chrysler is pretty much dropping it from all their vehicles. Nissan owns JATCO (who makes the CVTs) so they might continue to use them. |
I sold my car almost two years ago. Sick and tired of the gas prices and all the expenses of having it. This is what I ride everyday to go to work and run small errands, rain or shine, even in the snow in winter. An electric scooter.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...ped1_small.jpg All you polluters with your big gas guzzling toys can kiss my BUTTery  We do have one family car that my wife uses since she works farther away and picks up the kid from daycare. A 2008 Mazda CX9 with GT package. |
Paralyzed is winning this contest so far, but I will go ahead and post mine :intello:
The daily driver is a 98 Mazda 626 with 210,000 miles on it. It does what I need it to do but it gets me no where fast  The Friday driver is an 86 S10 Blazer. I will just say it has had a few things done to it and mustang owners know my tag number  http://i48.tinypic.com/ego9xc.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/4rqqux.jpg |
My daily is a 97 GMC Yukon GT. I'm hoping to keep it and refurbish it for my little boy one day.
The toy/ weekend vehicle is a 92 GMC Typhoon. It's been down for a while now but should be up and running soon. http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...Momspic006.jpg Nick |
I like the direction this thread is going. I've seen a few Typhoons around here and there and have always liked them. I have always said that one day I will have a syclone to go along with my blazer.

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps5e78441e.jpg Now i need to find some money to get back in to my old addiction :/ |
My current daily driver is a 98 Camry. Kinda sad for me, as the last few have been supercharged v8 ford products. But I am not sad as I have 300 bucks in the car total. And I use it to drive to work. I will get a pic up, the car looks like new.
My toy right now is a 99 Honda CBR1100xx, or Blackbird. Nice bike, have it setup as a semi sport tourer, soft bags and a tank bag for utility. Still needs a few decals as I painted it last year. I am not a huge fan of having alot of dough tied up in cars, as I have other hobbies that suck up the cash. |

I was about to say something nasty when the roof rack/enclosure thing split open and dropped a wheelchair next to her. We talked for a few min and went our separate ways. I've never seen anything like that before... |
Mommy van
Well on the same line as Harold I also drive a van for our daily ride. But we have a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country for hauling the family around, and the kids love the dual DVD tri screen setup for long trips. They don't make e'm the way they use to with real wood grane in the dash, but its still a very comfortable vehicle to drive. And the new 4.0 V-6 makes it sound like a hot rod when you tromp on the gas. It gets about 18-20 MPG, which really gobbles up the cash over here in Europe when gas/petrol costs about $7 to $9 a gallon depending on what country your driving through. A complete fill up runs us about $120 to $150. Plus it has those new dent proof panels all around, and I can tell you they work. Some moron hit my passenger side one night and tore his little Skoda up. I heard the contact and the sound of the body panel pop right back out leaving me with no damage at all. Not even a scratch after it was washed.

Man Jerry, really showing your age with the "wood on the dash" comment... Pretty sure the mainstream US auto market killed off wood back in the 50s... I know that you may have been able to get real "tree wood" in a caddy or a lincoln after that, but just about everything had fake wood on the dash and doors from the 60s on.
Unless you own Rolls Royce, they still use real wood. And if you do own a rolls why are you slumming here? You should not even be talking to people like us, your status in the community is dropping as we speak. Just acknowledging Harold's existance knocks 20 point off... |
Weather permitting, my daily driver and weekend toy is one of my ebikes. Any other day it's my 2000 Toyota Camry. Still saves gas, barely anything goes wrong with it and it has a 5 speed manual. Seeing a 4 banger Camry burn rubber at the light is something you don't see everyday. When the stock clutch went out, I had it replaced with a Centerforce clutch. I just replaced the valve cover rubber seal and spark plug cables. I was surprised that they lasted 12 years.
Family vehicle is the 2006 Expedition. Best mpg was 22 going to Florida last November. It also gets used as a truck from time to time since all of the back seats fold flat against the floor. Last September I swapped out the stock intake with a K&N intake. Way smoother cruising speed and accelerating from 70->85mph is a lot faster now. Cruising speed is just as quiet as stock. |

Thats decently quick for a sport compact FWD car. The 2008+ Cobalt SS/TC actually held the record for fastest sport compact on the Nurburgring for a while. Might not hold it anymore though. |
Seeing your Trans Am makes me miss my 1985 Firebird. Was my first car and I still want one again, mostly to turn into a track day kind of car. My daily is 2006 Toyota Tacoma X-Runner. Its a 4.0 V6 236hp with 6spd manual for those that are curious. Bone stock and decently quick, handles great for a truck. I've been tempted many times to modify it, but my $ is being spent on the next car in this post.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...6/IMG_0054.jpg This is my baby, 1967 Camaro. Started as a 6cyl Powerglide car, now has a mild 350 with a 350 trans that I can't wait to ditch for 5 or 6spd with a clutch. A few more rc items might have to go to make it happen sooner. How she looked 2 years ago when I got her http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...n_2006/005.jpg Things quickly progressed to a total teardown. New floors, new outer rockers, new rear full quarters, new outer wheelwells, new cowl, new dash top, new door skins, all done by me. Thankfully not all with that Harbor Frieght welder, I upgraded to a Miller 211 shortly after this pic was taken. Yes I made the dolly the car is sitting on. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...6/IMG_0395.jpg And how she sits now. Metal work basically done excpet for a couple patches around the windshield but otherwise ready for fenders and bodywork. Suspension is completely rebuilt, engine and trans are in, still need all new plumbing, wiring and interior though. Pic was taken during a short stay at fathers garage before coming to our new home. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...6/IMG_1268.jpg Her new home http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...IMG_1687-1.jpg Pushed out to replace the clutch on the daily driver http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...IMG_1846-1.jpg |

Leaning
The camaro looks like a fun project. My wife wants me to find her a 68. And if the house looks anything like the garage you must have a lot of renovation to do. Is it just the picture or is your new garage leaning to the left looking like it may fall down at any moment? It's always nice to have your own garage but that looks a little unsettling to me. Nice work on the car.
|
Wow the pic makes the garage door opening look weird on both sides, left is more noticeable. Garage is worse than the house, but it's not leaning, just needs electric, paint and new roofing shingles in a few years.

We are doing that to my friends garage, already has electricity, but we are running a gas line for a natural gas heater we are building into the walls, as well as water for a very small water heater and slop sink. |
I have oil heat in my house and can get an oil fired heater for the garage for next to nothing. No need to run a line from the house for that, a 55 gallon drum behind the garage would feed it. I am running a water line out there just in case I decide to put in a small slop sink. If I do there are small electric hot water heaters (1 or 2 gallon tank) and fit under the sink that would be perfect.

My daily driver is a '96 Nissan Maxima. It isn't a sports car, but does OK with its 6 cylinder motor and 5 speed transmission. My "toy hauler" is a '97 Ford E150 van - much like Harold's but in white. Basically a big box that fits lots of RC, a couple dirt bikes, or a quad for my weekend fun time. :)
