My Warrior 9219 is smoking!

Yesterday I was driving my emaxx around and no problems. I brang it instead and tried to spin the tires are adjusting my spear gear (fixing the gear mesh)... the motor didn’t want to really turn over... it just seemed to rock back and forth unless I gave it full throttle. After about 30 seconds of trying to figure out what was going on the controller started to smoke! I let it sit for about 30min and tested it again... seemed to work fine. Then today it didn’t the same thing, it just "rocked" back and forth then smoked! I took off the shrunk wrap to take a look and turned it back on.. smoke started to come from the 4 block resisters (I think that’s what they are).... is this common??? Anything I can do to get this fixed?? Im broke as hell and I wanted to race my emaxx!

BTW, im running 14 cells of GP 3800 matched with external UBEC. Also all this was bought here from rc-monster last summer.

Edit, i just remembered its a 9918, not 9220.

Make sure none of the contacts are touching. Like the legs for the capacitors.

I'm starting to get concerned about how many BKs are smoking lately. :(

Sneeck 05.28.2006 07:02 AM

Your not the only one Nick, i've noticed the same thing. It's not looking good.

coolhandcountry 05.28.2006 07:07 AM

the best thing would to send it back to mike. It shouldn't be smoking at all.

Sylvester 05.28.2006 09:03 AM

This is not good at all, for BK that is, i dont see a great future for them!

BrianG 05.28.2006 02:56 PM

Wow, the more I read about BK's going bad, the more I'm glad I chose a model (12020) with a current capability far beyond what I needed...

Serum 05.28.2006 03:55 PM

Sylvester.. what is this for complete pointless and useless post?

you don't even know what is going on with this one.

I read more about them going bad lately, that's a fact, but is still have got no wall of shame for them, i didn't heard about a bad service issue? Ifotherwise; please share.

Everybody who is in the BL scene knows that his controller CAN go bad some time.. No matter what brand you are using.

@MadDog; Did you disabled the internal BEC on the 9918 by removing the jumper?

MadDog 05.28.2006 04:06 PM

The controller is not touching any part of the chassis or grounding out anywhere... i have made sure of that. I am also using Dean plugs.

I am using a external UBEC with the jumper removed from the Warrior.

Also the controller stinks like a badly burnt chip board... that cant be good.

MadDog 05.28.2006 04:09 PM

Oh ya, this is my second Warrior 9119. I had one last year but it just stopped working... no power or sound... i sent it to Mike and he sent me a new one. I would do the same for this one but i dont think it would be that easy since that was over a year ago now.

Serum 05.28.2006 04:15 PM

Just shoot Mike an email.

I'm sure he will do his best to help you.

MadDog 05.28.2006 05:31 PM

I sent him an email last night, still no response. Im guessing he takes time off on the weekends.

I thought their service was poor, not bad... but poor. I was directed to the US Importer, BK didn't want to discuss it with me (maybe they only speak German?). It looked to me that I would have to wait upto 5 weeks for it to be repaired in which I would have to pay for delivery both ways and duty, in the end, it was cheaper for me to buy a new one off Mike. :024:

I love their value for money though, I'm not too bothered paying another $250 for a new one.

squeeforever 05.28.2006 06:02 PM

I found there service great. I fried one and they replaced it for free. Only thing it cost me was $3.85 for shipping....It did however take a few weeks.

It cost you $4 to send it to Germany... from America?

squeeforever 05.28.2006 06:30 PM

Actually send it to the company I bought it from. They sent it to Germany, then BK said "We'll cover you on a new esc, send him one that you have."

Nick 05.28.2006 06:35 PM

That is lucky, other people I know, got charged for a replacement. :D

MadDog 05.28.2006 06:51 PM

At this point I am 99% sure I am going to have a buy one... but I don’t have any money since im saving up my money. Im 2 months im excepting my first child. Anyone want to buy me one? hehe (I wish!)

The jumper plug that you use to program the esc broke off today.. not sure how that happen. I soldered it back on, but the etc is still smoking if I hold the throttle for like 5 seconds.

squeeforever 05.28.2006 07:41 PM

Don't worry, I have had 2 BEC jumpers break off on me.

coolhandcountry 05.28.2006 08:50 PM

I hope they send me a new one. that would be nice of them.

Mine took 6 months, and they still charged $75. My first time around, it took 4 months, and they charged either $75 or $85. That was within about 3 months of buying it too!

When MGM took 6 months, they waived the service fee.

coolhandcountry 05.29.2006 12:28 PM

Well gee. If i have to pay another 85 for something to get fixed. I am not going to be happy.
