Help with D8T diffs
Hi Guys
What is a good diff oil to start with? I have D8T with a CC1717 just would like to no where I should start with diff oil in the F/C/R ? I was thinking 7K/7K/5K what do you think? Any help would be great Thank you Web |
7/10/5 is what I usually run.
|
7k cst viscosity for the center diff is way too low. With a 1717 you'll need atleast 500k in the center diff or it will get hot and the front tires will baloon like crazy.
|
If I remember correctly I have 10/50/5 in my D8T with a CC 1520.
Good luck, Nick |
Thank you for your help guys that is great.
I will try both I mite go with the 7/10/5 first and then try 10/50/5 and see how it goes. Also Lizard yes I no what you are saying I did mean 7000k/7000k/5000k diff oil is always in the 1000 and up 5k would be like water? but thank you for your input that is great thanks.I will let you no how I go. Thanks WEB |
I'm running 50k in the center of my HVL that has the CC 1717.

HPI for example puts 100k cst diffoil in the center diff on the Vorza Flux Buggy RTR, which is lighter, has smaller tires and has only a CC 1515 in it. |
in my mbx5T w/the 1520...i run 100K in the center
|
Look like I better get some 50K and 100K to try and thank you for the info guys that is great.
I will let you no how I go? Thanks WEB |
This is an old thread...but exactly applies to my question.
I have a pair of RC-M converted D8Ts. When they were nitro, they performed very well with 5/7/3 diff oil at my local track. Now they are brushless, and I assume they'll need a change. One is powered by a T8 2000kv running 4s and the other is a T8 1350kv running 6s. Both are using RX8 Gen2's in sensored mode. Both are used as racers only, no bashing - the track surface is fairly loose and has quite a few tight turns. The longest straight is 150' or so. Any ideas on where to start? 10/10/5, 7/10/5? Or...am I way off on center diff wt? |
You can run the same as nitro... but I think I am running 10/10/5 or 4 in mine, works well on med to high traction. For less traction I will usually run 7/10/3.
|
Thanks for the help. I would definitely consider my track low traction.
|
So I don't need to run something like 50k in the center, correct?
|
For racing... no. I have tried 15 in the center, but certainly not on low traction. Honestly, you could try what you have and see how you like it. I personally go about one wgt heavier for electric over nitro... at least in the center.
|
I run 7-120-5
|
I'm going to start with 7/10/5 in one and 10/10/5 in the other and see how that works out...
|
Sounds like a great place to start

Yes it gets hot, of course it gets hot. Everything gets hot with a 1717 pushing that hard. I'm sure you could even temp the CVs if you wanted. Yes, the front tires balloon, but to be fair, at these speeds, the rears are ballooning pretty good too. :gasp: |
