EMaxx build, again.
I built a FLM maxx back in 2008 or so and sold it a long time ago. I wish I hadn't so I'm building another one.
This will soon have Mike's chassis on it, because I didn't do my homework before clicking the buy button. I've got UE UltraLites on the way and some Kyosho STRR diffs already converted to Traxxas stubs. I'm pretty sure the Hot Bodies shocks will require CVD's, but it's close. Kyosho springs are on the shocks, 74mm Blue. They seem up to the task but I need to stiffen the oil up a bit. I'm running the 1.3mm pistons in the front, and 1.4mm in the rear. I think I'll be putting the 1.3mm in the rear and going with 45 or 50wt oil. Anyways, here's the progress so far. http://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1665/23...7ef5e54f_b.jpg |
Man, looking good! You will love Mike's V-Maxx Chassis. Although I have never run the FLM LCG Chassis, I have read many reports the top plate has weak areas in it's design. Keep the updates coming, and I'd be keen to see what you use for axle duties...

maxx stays a sweet truck !!! and NOT outdated ...
allthough most modern trucks have not much Traxxas parts in them :) |
Thanks! I'm thinking either Ball X or MIP. i don't think the plastic sliders fit with the shocks.

Hi,
Hey nice Maxx. Is this a FLM LCG V1 or a new one with the updated Topplate? Are you running RPM Bulks? I tested them too, but I broke mine after 2min at the Shocktower mount. The Jump wasn't very big. Only 0.5 meters high so nothing big. Are these D8 rear shocks? How long they are? |
The chassis looks different from the earlier versions, so maybe updated? The bulks are temporary, I will be going with GA bulks. These shocks are the 112mm D8T rears with Kyosho 74mm blue springs. I plan on running Mikes chassis in the near future, with center diff. It will likely be sent for anodizing as well.

Haven't pulled the trigger on Mike's chassis yet. I think I'm going to sell this one first. I did get new Traxxas bulkheads, brace, and UE Ultralites that are now installed. I have ordered a RRP 65T steel slipper assembly, but I'm probably going to go with a center diff install on Mike's chassis. I may end up building two trucks.

Added some pretty. Hexcrews 12.9 Armor Plated screws, blue washers, RRP V3 Slipper. I think it's about time to drive this. I may temporarily borrow the brushless system from the Kyosho for this.

2 trucks gets my vote - can never have too many Maxx trucks IMO!
|
Trigger - Pulled: :diablo:
Now... the wait. If anyone is interested, the FLM chassis, towers, skids, and all associated parts with this chassis will be on ebay soon. I cannot wait to send Mike's chassis off for anno. |
Well, crap. Thanks Robin. Sorry to hear about the accident, but thank you for the amazing parts. I've gone sunny side down, shit hurts. Last time I ate shit it took out a femur. I hope all is well.

Did i miss something?

Yep. Replied to the wrong thread. Too many tabs.

Updates! Thanks for the super fast shipping Mike!!! I think I may end up with two trucks. Your chassis will be the beater. It's going to be a runner for sure, and I'll keep the Fastlane around in case one of my sons wants to get into the MT game.
Yes, your chassis compliments UE parts nicely! More pics to come. http://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1646/25...21d88b82_b.jpg Comparo - Fastlane and RCM. http://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1467/25...1b28eb39_c.jpg I gotta buy a new camera. The one on my new phone sucks. My Galaxy was way better. |
I always seem to just build another truck myself - I think I have some kind of attachment disorder when it comes to Maxx trucks!

Been a while since an update on this..... So I got sick of the CVD thing, trying to find different ones that would fit, buying ones that SHOULD fit, and ones that say they fit but don't.....
Enter: Kyosho ST-RR Evo.2 Universals. P/N KYOIS103 or IS103. 130mm in length. They are 1/8th scale and require 8mm bearings which necessitated the use of and modification of all parts involved. I used Unlimited Engineering knuckles and modified an RPM True Track system. The RPM TT system uses 12x21mm and 6x15mm bearings which obviously would not fit the 8mm outputs on the Kyosho shafts. I drilled a maxx slider out to 8mm where the 6mm output shaft would normally be and cut this off so that it would be a spacer instead of the inner part of the drive shaft. This left me with a piece that was roughly 8x12x4mm which worked PERFECT to space the inner 12x21mm bearing. At this point I hogged out the RPM knuckle until 8x16mm bearings would fit. Once this was done, everything lined up perfectly except the cross pin that attaches the 17mm hub. I found some Losi hubs that fit perfectly, they came from an LST. The RPM TT system has been known for being a few mm longer than a normal Maxx rear end setup, so I used MIP cups on some modified traxxas stub shafts to get the right length. Fits PERFECTLY!!! FINALLY! On the front, I used the UE knuckles which accept the 8x16mm bearings and required the use of regular 1/8 diff outputs instead of the stub shafts and MIP outputs. This setup really has me excited about this truck again. If anyone can benefit from this, you can pickup the Kyosho shafts for about 25 bucks a pair on eBay and they work GREAT! Super strong as well. I apologize for the crappy pictures, my phone sucks. http://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7221/26...363e221b_b.jpg http://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7540/26...b901b50c_b.jpg http://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7020/26...040695cc_b.jpg http://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7041/26...d4929b11_b.jpg http://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7078/26...e8eeedb0_b.jpg |
Bought a better camera than my phone camera. Sitting next to a Mad Force. The 1900KV Tekin didn't fit in the Maxx so it was donated to the Force. I plan on buying the center diff mount and mounting a standard 2200KV motor of some flavor or another. Probably going to run this on 6S since the Force is going to be running on 6S.
This is where the Kyosho Uni's sit in the cups on the rear, these are MIP cups. http://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7692/27...067224d2_b.jpg This is where the Uni's sit in the cups on the front, these are Kyosho diff cups. http://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7691/26...74c7b799_b.jpg Next to the Force with new kicks. http://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7759/27...3a25b482_b.jpg http://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7506/26...bc567aa0_b.jpg http://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7451/26...075b601c_b.jpg Can't wait to get this thing going, has taken far too long but that's my own fault for having RC ADD.... built three other RC's in the time that I've had this project going. |
Trucks are looking sweet!
|
Finally an update:
Got a body cutout, not sure on the color scheme yet. New tires that are not truggy tires, which took me forever to find new. http://c1.staticflickr.com/1/411/326...91f01a70_b.jpg |
Looks beastly!
|
Looks good!
Are those Losi Aftershock tires? Or are those Imex tires? |
Looks like Losi 16mm shocks from the 8ight's.
Those Losi Claws are the best! By far my favorite MT tire. |
Yep, Losi Claws from the Aftershock I think.
