Brushless power
hey guys, ive just purchaced the front and rear end of a revo to go with the G2R chassis when it arrives. Im having alot of trouble with my emaxx constantly having to upgrade parts to make it strong so it will take the power...will the G2R be the same? What have people broken on them? What is an essential upgrade? what brushless combo would be best for at least 5-10 minute runtimes on 14 cells but would like the option to go up to around 16-18? Ive been told the 9920, 7xl/10xl are a good combo?? How would they be geared/ Is Mod 1 worth it for the revo?
sorry about all the questions, just dont want to make anymore wrong desicions. Thanks in advance. Cheers Adam |
No, the G2R won't be like the Maxx. You might break a select few parts if your really tuff on it, but the only thing I've ever broken was a pillowball. And that wouldn't have happened if I didn't have aluminum arms on it.
So what brushless set-up do you guys think? minimum 5-10 mins run time nice power, run cool...14 cells but the option to go to more 16-18?
Cheers Adam |
I would say a 9XL. Maybe a 10XL.
What would the difference be between the 9XL and the 10XL
The 9XL will offer slightly more power but less runtime and visa-versa.
Squee's right, the G2R is practically unbreakable (watch, i said that and will break something at the race tomorrow, haha)I haven't broke anything yet. I'm running a Novak HV brushless and can make ten minutes on cheap 3300's
How long run times should i expect from the 10XL and 9XL on IB4200's?
9XL, at least 20+ minutes HARD running and close to 30 with the 10XL.
i think ill go with the 9XL then...would the 9920 be ok? What speeds would i get on 14 cells and on 18 cells?
14, probably around 40ish, with 18, I would say 55+ probably. As for speedos, I would personally go for the Quark 125.
what are the advantages of the 125 over the 9920?
The 125 should be smoother and run cooler, and it just looks soo darn sexy in the case its in:) *Edit* I wouldnt run 18 cells in a revo, unless you can find some super stiff springs for it!
ok thanks for all your help guys....ill post some pics once its finished :D
We'll be waiting for them pics! :)
well the front and rear's arrived and ive now decided i want it to be an all out racer and im goin to go with lipo's, which ones should i go with? for a 9920/9XL
What about 16 cells? It would fit perfectly across the battery slots, but then again, the cutouts are off so the cells dont actually drop in! I notice that when I did a test fit, I guess I'll be using some extra zip ties or straps to secure (I got a CF one).
Anyways, Most people here run LT Springs (not the rockers though). Also, the weight distribution is different on the G2R, you will find you need a stiffer front spring than normal. Usually you use a rear springs thats 2 steps up from the front, but with a G2R, you should use a rear thats just 1 step up from front, or even two of the same springs. |

If you use Lipos it will add even more heat (high amps 60-80 vs 30-40 for nihm) |

IMO: The Quark is a nice controller, but if you're not ready to play with heat issues, than I'd go 12020 or 9920 should work fine too. They are easy to cool, and if you have a nice radio, you can get them to be more responsive than normal(BK's). But the quark has better funtionality and is smoother, reverse is good in it, just need to program it correctly for what you want to run.
It sounds like if you take the time to set it up correctly and to address the heat dissapation issues that the Quark is a winner. I can do that.
I'm also wondering what the specs might be like with the upcoming monster mamba maxx system. I like the pc interface and programmability of the mamba maxx. The adjustable throttle profile among other things seems like a benefit. |
Limited on programming, but you can program the throttle on the BK's too.

What kind of radio would make the BK's more responsive? I have a Futaba 3PDF currently.
I run a M8 and can get it pretty controllable. You need something were you can turn down the throttle EPA and brakes.
I run the JR XS3 or something like that, and i adjusted the epa's and epx's. now it's real responsive to the touch. Most FM aftermarkets should have these as well.
Squee, turn down epa? |
Yea, I sometimes turn down the throttle EPA (end point adjustment) so the top speed is less depending on what I'm doing. On my M8 I can adjust the throttle EXP, EPA, and Speed. I have yet to try and adjust the Speed. It's mainly for a throttle servo, but I think it might slow down the throttle on the ESC as well.
turn it down, are you crazy? I turned my up a tad, and then adjusted the nuetral position on the epx settings to get rid of the dead air....works great! alos adjusted the epx on the steering to make is more responsive as well. LOL, i had the steering to 100, thing would turn way toooo fast and I rolled my truck cuz i wasn't used to it! So i turned it down and it's reall touchy, but manageable!
Good advice! I'm hoping to order the esc, ubec, and 9xl or XLT4 motor in mid-August so I'm trying to get it sorted out in advance. I hate spending money twice...know what I mean?
Yep, been there doing that! LOL

LOL, i see! Like i said before, this is the whole reason i built my girl HER OWN!
The Futaba 3PDF has EPA (they call it ATV) and exponential adjust, mechanical ATV on the throttle/brake plus the trims. I think it will work fine.
