Help me decide
So I've been searching suspension threads for the past few days and still indecisive in which setup to get. The three I'm looking at are: G3, Integy type III, and FLM. (arms and shock towers)
I like the G3 because I've been impressed with all the gorillamaxx products including chassis and extension, motor mount, and skids. Thats the reason I would pick this suspension, however, it's not the most durable. The FLM is backed by the cheap replacement policy and seems very durable. I keep on reading about "coolhand" yet to bend or break them. Only reason I wouldn't pick is because I like having all the same brand. I just threw the Integy kit in here because you get a lot for the price. I know previous versions are a bit weak. I"m not a basher nor racer...I just take the ole truck to the local park to play around, plus I'm too chicken to do crazy stunts or jumps. I'm conservative on the throttle but would like something pretty stout since crashes are inevitable with brushless power! http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...o/DSC01817.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...o/DSC01813.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...o/DSC01812.jpg 8XL, BK9920, 16 cells, Pro-line Powerstrokes, G2 CF chassis, G3 skids, motor mount, CF extension |
What's wrong with the plastic arms?
|
Nothing wrong...just want nice look of aluminum!
|
I would go with the Integy Type 3. Actually, thats the one that Coolhand couldn't seem to break :p
|
I have the gorilla suspension and love it. Never tried the Integy, but my old emaxx has the type II lower arms and they are great. so I would assume the type 3 are great...
|
The orginal integy was crap to me. The type3 made a handling improvement and was alot stronger. I would have no question on buying it again. The gmaxx is nice but it light weight. The flm is probably the strongest. I think with either you be happy. If you want better handle go integy. You want the strongest flm. You want lightest go gmaxx.
|
For me, the TTR suspension is enough for me to buy it. If you think about it, the no rear turnbuckle design only makes it stronger.
|
I have the REAL Supermaxx Racer-X suspension (Not the cheap chinese copy by Integy) and love it. Friends of mine have the Supermaxx EXT and also love it. I would vote for the FLM if you're bashing due to the strength, reasonable price, and excellent warranty. I would vote for the G-Maxx if you want light weight and high performance. Integy aluminum parts have been and still are cheap junk. Integy uses castings which they then machine to look like quality billet parts. I've snapped numerous Integy parts including bulkheads. They warranty nothing! Stay away from Integy! Buy the FLM or G-Maxx!
BTW...I have several FLM parts including chassis, braces, diff cups, and transcase, and they are nice, a step down from Supermaxx but far less expensive and with GREAT customer service. |
My new FLM transcase...

Recently purchased and polished by me.....

The Integy isn't what you make it out to be. The new stuff is far superior and for less than half the cost of the Racer-X, I would choose Integy. But I'm not hard on my truck (I'm a good driver :p). True, the old Integy was crap, but the newer stuff is much better. I personally think it's saying something if Leroy didn't break it :p.

I have busted the type 1 bulks but not the type 2. The type 2 is better built. I agree the racer x is great suspension but it has great price tag to.

I agree with Procharge. I have a FLM setup and it is great, And the warranty is not a scam ether because I have used it and it cost me $17 to replace about $75 worth of parts. |
What did it take to get the tranny to shine?
I have buffed some before but it was all big stuff. |
He probably wrapped his shirt over the wheels of his '70 Dodge Challenger and let the 1072 horses do the job for him..
LOL i was just reading your signature, you sure you don't want to mention your house or other things of interest? :p |
Lol Serum.
Leroy,i've got a great set of polishes from English Custom Polishing,http://www.englishcustompolishing.com/ That's one shiney transmission there. As for arms,i like the setup you've got on there, but i'd be inclined to go with G-maxx over the FLM, for weight and gives nice tuning options. |

Geeze! Rough crowd here! LOL Cool Hand, I may write a "How-to" on polishing for the forums at some point. To do a great job a wide array of "tools" are required including buffs of different sizes (3/8" up to 8") and different firmness' plus various polishing compounds. Properly polishing parts is part art & part science in my opinion and takes a while to properly explain. I'll be happy to answer any questions though! |
Squee,
Maybe Integy has stepped up their quality recently. Perhaps the Supermaxx knock off's they manufacture have better material or manufacturing practices than their other parts. Maybe the improved strength is due to the excellent (albeit stolen) design. I know I've broken their parts as have friends of mine. I'm an engineer by trade (not the choo choo train type either!) and my father is a manufacturing engineer with a strong backround in metalurgy. With my experience in building racing engines and chassis plus assisting on a nostalgia Top Fuel drag racing team I've learned to evaluate metal failures based on visual inspection. Metal porosity and impurity inclusion is a leading cause of part failure. Every broken integy part I've had the opportunity to inspect has what I consider to be high porosity (looks like a sponge) which equals low strength. Every part I've seen & worked with has been cast then machined to look "upscale". So, maybe they've stepped it up a notch and if you and LeRoy give it the "thumbs up" that's great. I'm just saying my experience with Integy hop-up's has been disappointing. Yes UE parts are REALLY expensive. They are the best built and best engineered however. I'm finally able to afford some of their parts after "dreaming" about owning a Supermaxx truck for a couple of years now. And even now I can't justify $400 for diffs and $500 for the VBS system..............I've gotta eat too! LOL BTW. I love the G-Maxx chassis and will own one at some point. G-Maxx quality is excellent! (Materials, fit, and finish are A++ just like Unlimited Engineering) |
I run the gmaxx suspension and love it. i have great handling, it sticks to the ground like glue. I also bash with it and it's holding up great!
|
I have broken the older and type 1 parts. I can understand totally on the crap quality you saying on them.
I not sure what they changed on the type 2 bulks and type 3 suspension but it seems better built than the orginal. You are right it is a stolen design and it is not as strong as ue. But then again you get what you pay for. :D |
IMO, UE is awesome stuff, but way overpriced. Individuality, if you want to run Integy, run Integy, ue, than ue, gorilla, than gorilla...IMO. My girl runs the type II's on her truck, and they are fine...not the bulks though, they got twisted! LOL
|
That's fair, and that's what I do.
I think it helps to know how others like the gear before your spend you hard earned $$$ on it though! Nothing like buying things several times over! Newuser, Nice truck btw! I like the choices you've made! Do you have any pics of your truck you could post? |
