New BL 8th scale up and running tomorow

Well its been a while since I posted, been swamped with classes and 40+hr work weeks. Anyway had a day off work and school today with nothing to do, so decided to put some work into the MBX. I built the batteries and bought/hacked the motor mount, mounted everything. All thats left for tomorow is finish alittle soldering, charge the receiver pack (no UBEC yet) and she'll be ready for her first bash.

I can't take credit for all the work, the top plate was Leroy's work, I just havn't had time to finish her up.

I'll have some final pics and maybe bashing videos tomorow, can't wait, but time to hit up the bar and enjoy my first night off work/school in 3 weeks!!!

Ugh... The pics aren't loading. Can't wait to see it though!

coolhandcountry 06.30.2006 01:31 PM

No pics for me either. Is that the buggy you got off me?

neweuser 06.30.2006 01:39 PM

All i see are red x's for the pic links...

DMCfirestar500 06.30.2006 02:56 PM

I think you might need a yahoo account to see the pics. I'll host them somewhere else in a few mins.

Anyway I just came in from its first run and dam this thing has power. Ate a spur in about 2 mins, time to call around locally and see if anyone has any plastic ofna spurs.

Coolhand, yup its the same buggy

Ebay item # 120002922505, fyi...

DMCfirestar500 06.30.2006 03:03 PM

ok, let me know if you guys can't see the pics now

DMCfirestar500 06.30.2006 03:04 PM

Newuser
A strobe slipper will do nothing on this buggy, I'm running a center differential.

coolhandcountry 06.30.2006 03:29 PM

Looking nice. I see you kept the top plate on it. It makes the chassis stronger. Give places to mount stuff to up off the chassis for more room.
Should be a blast to drive. I tried 7xl on 16 cells. it was nice but not me.

neweuser 06.30.2006 03:32 PM

Oooops, sorry. still no pics....

coolhandcountry 06.30.2006 03:59 PM

The pics are working for me now.

neweuser 06.30.2006 04:03 PM

Still no..:o(

MetalMan 06.30.2006 04:24 PM

None for me as well.

squeeforever 06.30.2006 05:20 PM

They work for me to...

DMCfirestar500 06.30.2006 05:46 PM

Well I got 2 extra spurs, ran the buggy for another 10 mins and stripped a servo horn, so shes done till tomorow.

On another note, what is a high temp for a 9920 and for a 7xl. After 10 solid minutes of running outside street and grass bashing in about 80 degree weather the esc was at about 165 and the motor was at about 150. I havn't cut any cooling holes or anything yet in the body and it didn't thermal once.

coolhandcountry 06.30.2006 05:59 PM

It is little on the hot side. It is not far from thermalling. Could you drop a tooth or two on pinion?

DMCfirestar500 06.30.2006 08:09 PM

Yeah I probably will, I'll have to order one, cause I only have a 14t right now, but it has way more speed than I'll ever need on any track I race on. Next saturday will probably be its race debut up against the nitro guys. Hoping this setup will be able to make a 15min main, gonna be getting lots of practice in this coming week and hopefully have it nice and solid by then.

I'll make some vents for the stuff to breath tomorow and see how much that helps. Worst case scenario I rebuild the packs into a 4s2p config before next sat. cause I really don't need the power of 5s it sure is fun though.

On a side note she is almost perfectly balanced, extremely controllable on jumps, with enough power to wheeilie with high traction like on the street.

DMCfirestar500 06.30.2006 08:14 PM

Oh, at around what temps will a 9920 usually thermal? just for reference.

coolhandcountry 06.30.2006 08:42 PM

I think it supposed to thermal around 180.

DMCfirestar500 06.30.2006 09:03 PM

Ouch, thats alittle too close for comfort might have to add a fan tomorow as well.

coolhandcountry 06.30.2006 09:09 PM

You could try to drop back to a 4s system and see if that helps. You will loose some weight and voltage. But should drop temps a little.

MetalMan 06.30.2006 09:11 PM

Yeah, 4s is already enough. Just FYI, it isn't uncommon that lower-end (quality) BL motors heat up a lot and cause excess heat in the controller in 1/8 buggies.

seth556 06.30.2006 09:23 PM

I dont see any pictures.

neweuser 07.01.2006 10:28 AM

Nice!!!! Great job!

MetalMan 07.01.2006 10:59 AM

If I open the pics up separately in another browser, then they load.

Looks good :). Just one question, how will the Emolis be held so that the 2-cell group doesn't break off from the 3-cell group?

DMCfirestar500 07.01.2006 04:24 PM

Well I havn't had time to work on it today and probably won't (tired after a 12hr day of work). But tomorow looks good.

Metal man the emoli's are currently strapped down to the chassis with zip ties. I'm trying to figure out a way to make a tray of some kind. But the battery bar holding the cells together is plenty strong, its not like the batteries are moving at all. They just have to be able to stand landing jumps and hard stops and accelerations, this will be a 90% track car.
