Whats in the name

I have been wanting to do this thread for a while, as the name implies, I'm interested in how your usernames came to be.

I'll start. My name came to me by family, namely my dad. He was into CB radios in the 70's, his handle (same as user name) was crazy larry, With his passing last year, I wanted to carry the handle he had, but there can't be two crazy larry's, since i am his JR i chose crazyjr as a continuation of the name he started and my way of honoring him in a special way.

That IS a kick-butt song - pretty much the whole album rocks. :)

Anyway, my "handle" is pretty basic simply because I noticed after a while any name I came up with sounded dumb. So, I stick with simple...

Dafni 08.11.2006 03:02 AM

All my friends call me Dafni or Daf. (pronounced Duffny of Duff) Only my mother and my boss and some other people call me Daniel, for friends it's Daf. Don't ask me how it started, stuck to me ever since. For as long as I can remember they call me Dafni.

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 08.11.2006 03:14 AM

My name is John and I used to have a Nissan Maxima so this friend of mine used to call me Johnnymaxima when I bought it. Then I got into R/C and bought 3 Traxxas Maxx trucks (2 E's & 1 T) so I added another x in maxxima.

I often thought about starting this thread too crazyjr. There are some user names that I have been curious about.

Darren 08.11.2006 06:44 AM

HotnCold 08.11.2006 07:09 AM

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Crazy. those kinds of losses are hard to deal with, and avoiding them is impossible, which makes the frustration even bigger.

Cool topic though.

My initial forum name (and email name) was Buikpijn, which means pain in the stomach.. typical for me, because a combination of illnesses caused me pain in the stomach when i was an infant.. after an appendix operation the doctors discovered an unidentified fabric, growing from my spinal cord to my bellybutton, which they didn't dare to remove because of possible vital organs.

Quite some people asked me what my pain was about considering that user-name. the die hard nitro fans thought it was because i converted my savage to brushless. After the 500th email I took the antidote, The serum..

Open it up in a GIF animation program (like Jasc Animation Shop) and see if there isn't something wrong with the file structure.

squeeforever 08.12.2006 02:08 AM

Thanks. I'll try that. For some reason, it works when I open it up to view it but it won't when I upload it .

captain harlock 08.14.2006 08:13 AM

Mine is the name of a japanese animated character who is a futuristic space pirate by the name of Captain Harlock. The show was not very popular and I did not like it at all, but the name itself rings a bell of lovely memories of the distant past in my mind every time I hear it. The avatar I'm using is his space ship's flag.
That anime came in the late 70s like MazingerZ, Grandizer,etc..

MetalMan 08.14.2006 09:55 AM

Mine came from my liking of music with the genre of metal, as well as my liking to work with metal (mostly aluminum). Sometimes I even listen to metal while cutting metal with the scroll saw in my garage :005:.

captain harlock 08.14.2006 11:17 AM

Huh?! I thought MetalMan is also a Japanese show using cartoon drawings and real shooting all together.

Thanks for making it a cool thread guys.

Captian Harlock, i thought that was where you got it from, I'm hopelessly addicted to anime and Captian Harlock is one of the coolest characters in the genre

captain harlock 08.14.2006 12:51 PM

I got to know it from my old brother. We used to watch it together in video back in the late 80s- early 90s. He's cool, indeed, but the show seemed a bit too dark for me. Isamu Tezuka's animes are the darkest, though. Did you see his Black Jack and the pretty old Treasure Island?( quite possible, the greatest anime I've seen until this day). The sound track is so incredible and it fits the action quite well.
