I would guess aluminum trans on rusty.
nop its made of paper :005: :018:
looks nice stampy!
tnx ya the fit and finish of the trans was great but i did have to do some griding on the truck to get it to fit:032:
Do you have the steel diff in there? If you don't, you'll find that the tranny runs so much quieter and the diff won't strip as easily if at all.
What grinding did you have to do? I run the aluminum tranny case on a custom chassis and custom rear shock tower, so maybe that's why I didn't have any problems. |
So Metalman, your saying that the metal diff isn't really the way to go?
I haven't stripped a diff with the aluminum tranny case. At one point I did bend the aluminum motor plate, and so tried out the stock diff case (a new one, but not the new gray plastic). The diff instantly shredded. I looked at my aluminum idler gear, and noticed that the teeth were sharp from wear against the steel top gear. After getting a new aluminum idler and diff gear, I still managed to almost instantly strip the diff gear.
FLM did their homework on the tranny case. I recall Mike telling me that "I would be back" for the steel diff, but I can say that thus far I'm keeping my $70 :p. Lately I've been running a Mamba Max 4600 system on 4s Lipo, which is quite a bit of power for the diff to be able to handle. Besides the diff gear, I'm also stripping spur gears a lot less. The only time the spur gear strips is when the set screw on the pinion gear loosens and then the set screw itself makes contact with the spur and eats into it. |
Have you tried to new TCS setup off the new Rusty's?
Nope, and I find no need to. I'm using the steel diff balls in Kimbrough spur gears to provide the slip on the slipper clutch, and these gears are readily available. Although I do work at my LHS, I haven't seen any parts for the new Rustler yet even though we sell the new Rustlers.

i had to grind back the little plastic things that stick up off were the tranny mounts to:032: .and some of the holes dident line up so well but im not complaining:018:. man I love this setup that lenher motor runs at about 120 maby after half my 3700 3s pack my guess is 140 for the hole thing if that. the controller is the same 120ish plus im over geared to running 81-19. man i love this thing :004:
Mines a miracle compared to my old dremeled up stock case. But it did make me order some alum rear arms to keep up the durability all around.

how long did it take to get to you. i ordered one 9 days ago and it still hasnt come in
i had mine overnighted :P
It usually takes 3 days for it to get to me.
well I just got mine in today and I drooled on it for about 5 min then I ran around the house showing everyone I could find how freakin awesome it is, :004: of course no one cared
Thats what happens to me, I always get some new stuff then I'm like hey mom check out how cool this thing is. Then she goes oh wow then I go look at it some more.
well I put it all together with my mamba max 7700 motor in it and it looks sexy :043: I think my gf may get jealous. its not even in the car yet
well I put it in the car and I wasnt happy that it didnt fit:035: but I havnt stripped a spur yet and ive gone through 3 batteries, thats a first
im either going to buy the aluminium chassis or have my machinest make me one:018: but anyway I took it to the track and was pleased with the tranny. btw mine is way undergeared 16-84 with the mamba 7700 BL still does around 35ish and does wheelies like crazy |
I made a small skid to protect the motor on mine
