cooling pipe, just to see...
hi, just to make you laughing, here is what i try to do to prevent my Feigao C9L from heating too much...
http://www.chakaboum.com/emaxx/P1000103.JPG http://www.chakaboum.com/emaxx/P1000108.JPG we will see how it performs next week... |
It's the GEARING! Change the gearing and it won't heat up! Looks cool though...
|
cool sink dude:) whats your gearing now?
|
Hey Squee! lol! i know what you think man, bu i can't gear down, i'm addicted to this crazy speed!!! I run 66/16 and 66/18 with Lightning diffs and 14 cells...
Going 66/14 provide me a big lack of speed... :( my next step is to run 4s Lipo with 51/18 or 20... |
it has to be faster than what is on there in that picture. lol
|
Fagzz, I can only try so much...I'm telling you right now...This will be a VERY expensive hobby if you don't take the advise you have been given by numberous people to change the gearing. If you want speed so bad, go with 6S LiPo on a 9XL...Seriously though, you WILL fry your motor and possible your controller if you try 20/51..
|
I agree with Squee. Adding that much cooling is good and all, but you are addressing the symptom, not the problem. If you want high speed, increase the voltage until you get to ~37kprm motor speed. If you are already that close, them maybe a different/larger/more efficient motor is in order. Overgearing is not good for the motor or the ESC. It pulls more current than it can safely, and will heat up excessively (as you've seen) and decrease its life.
Now, with the right motor/gearing/voltage combo, that sink will help reduce temps from normal to a cooler amount. Where did you get that by the way? It looks nice and allows directed airflow where it is needed while not looking ghetto. |
this part has been made with FDM (fused depositition modeling) process...
The material is ABS and this pipe is my first prototype... i have to work to enhance the air flow... perhaps extracting the heat will be more efficient than blowing on the motor... To solve my problem i think to go 4S lipo, loosing a bit of speed, with my C9L, but i really have problems with ratios... what will be a good ratio? i thought about 66/18... (with lightning diffs) Using 4S make me come back under the rpm limit of this motor, i reach 39krpm on 14.4V... (i can reach 35.8mph theorically with 66/18) Using 6S lipo is too heavy, i prefer to stay light... |
what's about a Feigao 7XL + 4S lipo + 51/16 ratio? it gives a 3.2.1 ratio and 60km/h top speed...
i think that's what i search for... |
That sounds about right. maybe a 14 tooth pinion though.
|
Squee, why do u want me to go as fast as a snail??? you make me crazy, the more i want to go fast, the more you want me to gear down!!! lol!!! we will never be agree... :)
therefore this is my next setup, i believe you Squee, each time you said me that i will run hot, it happened... |
do i need to order 2 LVC with my 2 8000mahMaxamps lipo packs?
Or can i just plug one LVC to the final battery connector? (the one that link the 2 packs in serie) |
You only need one. Connect it to the + and the - on the controller like you would for the UBEC.
|
Good question... you need a single 4s lvc.
I don't know if there is a way to run two 2s lvcs... nvere thought about that. It would be cool to have a lvc that does each cell. There is one like that in beta tesing right now, but I don't think there is one you can buy yet. |
There's the Cellpro 4s LVC that monitors each cell, but unless it is a single 4s packs (and not two 2s packs) some fancy wiring like I have shown in the LBA6 thread would need to be done.
2 LVCs would work, but it's just a waste of money IMO. As squee said, one is all that's needed. |
all thanks guys, i will order my lipos + lvc tonight...
|
Well that is some cool cooling for motor.
I find if you buy a better motor like lmt or neu. It runs cooler than the cheaper ones. 7xl on 4s with 16 51 gearing sound good with hb buggy diffs. The neu 1512 2.5d has about same kv as 7xl. I am going to test this out. It is a 4 pole motor so doesn't work will with 9920. As for lvc I run the single unit that detects the amount of cells on it. It works great so far. |
And you will have more success blowing air across rather than sucking air past - i have tried this more than once - BTW - i like the cover over the speed controller..
|
Ok for blowing on the motor, i believe in you HotnCold...
For the lipo thing: I will have to make a Y harness to connect the two 2S tabs together ... after that i will plug the 4S tab of the Y harnes to the LVC... do i understand correctly? (i would buy the cellpro LVC...) |
Are you talking about the Graupner?
|
i thought about the FMAdirect Cellpro 4S DPM low voltage cutoff... is there sthg better on the market, but that doesn't cost mnore than 40 to 50$ ???
|
I would go for the Li-Saver.
|
The Cellpro watches the voltage of each cell. That's far better than the LiSaver, which can't watch each cell. It helps to keep all of the cells healthy.
