Polishing a Gorillamaxx Chassis?

Anyone know how to polish a G-Maxx chassis? Is it clear andonized? Does it polish up nicely?

squeeforever 09.04.2006 10:27 PM

It should polish nicely.

Alex Berman 09.04.2006 10:55 PM

What would you use to polish it? Is it anodized?

JThiessen 09.04.2006 11:00 PM

Go to an auto parts store and get some aluminum mag wheel polish. That chassis doesnt look to me like its got anything other than a nice machined finish on it. You can use a soft rag to polish it, or you can try a buffing wheel on a dremel, but be careful - you might get dirty!

Polishing is always a mess. And no, the gmaxx is not anondized unless you get the colored versions. But it will polish VERY NICELY!

captain harlock 09.05.2006 04:27 AM

Mothers polish works fine with me.

Serum 09.05.2006 11:54 AM

I find the g-maxx parts rather hard to polish.

Get a buffing wheel and some compound made for buffing. I got some home made polishing stuff. It works better , faster and easier than any thing I have used before. I find that if it is to rough sand it with some light sand paper first. The buffing comes out much nicer. Can even get the chrome look.

I tried polishing it - I couldn't get it to a chrome finish, but it was shinier.... Is it possible to chrome it out?

captain harlock 09.05.2006 02:43 PM

Probably if you do it several times.

neweuser 09.05.2006 02:52 PM

It'll take some time, and you'll need some speed on that buffer wheel, but it is possible....it will also depend on the compound you are using.

sjcrss 09.05.2006 04:32 PM

I use mothers for the first application, then i use neverdull.....to shine mine up...comes out pretty good.

Mike.L 09.05.2006 06:00 PM

i dont really care about if its polished or not, unless is gets dirty then ill just clean her up with wd 40 but other then that dont polish

squeeforever 09.05.2006 06:10 PM

I usually use a 3HP buffing wheel/grinder for stuff like that :p. It shouldn't be to hard by hand though. I find that the Dremel is a pain in the ass. It might also come out inconsistent.

Alex Berman 09.05.2006 07:37 PM

I'm using Naxon or something that the hardware store recommended... Cleaned my chassis nicely - still not chrome like tho... To get the really deep marks off, I used SOS Pads - they worked great!

coolhandcountry 09.05.2006 07:44 PM

I find what you use to polish with by hand is important to.

squeeforever 09.05.2006 07:53 PM

I found this green stuff at a car show at the Super Dome. The stuff works miracles...Can't remember the name of it though...It can polish the bottom of a Coke can in about 15 seconds to look like chrome though :D. I'll go see what the name of it is. It works better than Mothers, Boyd Coddington, and just about all others. There was this stuff that was a pink cloth that was SUPER expensive but worked awesome. Can't remember the name of that though, either...

Edit: the name of the pink cloth is Never-Dul I think

sjcrss 09.05.2006 09:47 PM

Squee..the never-dul stuff...we used in the service..and it can be found at walmart for less than $5.00...it's in the automotive section....

squeeforever 09.05.2006 10:05 PM

Ooops :dft001: Your right. I got that and the green stuff mixed up :013:. The green stuff (still haven't found out what the name is). The green stuff is like $45 or $15 a bottle to be exact, but you couldn't buy it seperate. It came in a pack of 2 green bottles of polish and one bottle of sealer. I still need to find the name of it though...

neweuser 09.06.2006 12:52 AM

i agree, i'm going mach two thru grass and dirt....polishing means nothing but wasted time...but that's just me. Sure, i'd like a little chrome look, but these things are on the ground 95% of the time....just my 2 cents

coolhandcountry 09.06.2006 12:17 PM

Could it mikes mean green metal polish?
I got some stuff close to it as well. Go to a truck stop for all the good stuff.
Look at the aluminum they have to polish on the big rigs.

sjcrss 09.06.2006 12:30 PM

I like to try to keep mine nice and clean, it's asier to notice broken or bent parts, hell I havn't cleaned mine....since i broke it at the bash.....it still has mud on the rear upper racerx arms...man am i being lazy...

neweuser 09.06.2006 02:22 PM

Yeah ya are! Get it runnin already man! J/K, mine is almost there. A few more test runs then finalize everything cosmetically and i'm set to roll! Still need to figure out my distance/interference isues. And resolder my connections to the motor...

sjcrss 09.06.2006 03:15 PM

yes i may be being lazy, but it will be done soon, I just wish I had a CC with a high $$ amount then i could fix it all at once..as is..I have to do it in chunks....a big chunk now..and then a nther in a few months...but it will be done hopefully by xmas...if everything goes to plan.....but If you keep you truck clean...it's easier to notice messed up stuff...IMO

neweuser 09.06.2006 03:22 PM

I agree. Clean after every run will eliminate badly damaged parts!

Freshkryp69 09.07.2006 05:08 PM

whats up,
ive been reading this great forum for a yr or 2 and this is my first post!
I have found that when polishing aluminum ZOOP metal polish is about the best you'll find,it works in 2 or 3 stages..it's been awhile since i've used it,But I did use it for an car amp heatsink...came out looking like a mirror! and stayed that way for 2 yr's! hope this helps..

neweuser 09.07.2006 05:11 PM

Wow, 2 years? This is the one you choose to post on? Ok, well, WELCOME officially! Hopefully we'll see you around more!
