Rear Support for Neu 1515???

I just got my neu 1515 2.5d yesterday. I was really surprised at how much bigger it was than the XL's. This thing looks huge. I'm gonna have to devise a rear motor support for it. Anyone done this yet for a G2R Revo and GMaxx Motor Mount. I don't think the BK mounts will fit this thing. Its way to fat.

Anyone have any sugestions for a quick solution?

Sneeck 09.06.2006 02:03 PM

You could make something like I designed for my flamemaxx chassis.

captain harlock 09.06.2006 02:04 PM

I believe Sneeck did that, but his chassis is customly made.
Oops, I replied in the same time.
My appologies, Sicco.

Sneeck 09.06.2006 02:09 PM

No problem m8, you couldn't know.

captain harlock 09.06.2006 02:10 PM

Hehe..yeah, I guess so..

neweuser 09.06.2006 02:17 PM

That's a very nice design. How is that project coming? sorry, a little off topic...

Sneeck 09.06.2006 02:18 PM

Way, way to slow. Could be a few month's before test run.

neweuser 09.06.2006 02:20 PM

Still in design? Or getting parts and what not?

Sneeck 09.06.2006 02:25 PM

Final part's should come in next week. Then I got a order with Mike which is not priority, tho I need those part's to get the truck running. It's going so slow cause I was focusing on a new mountainbike I wanted to buy, but didn't go thru. So I guess I could get it finnished sooner. Yep let's do that, tired of looking at a half finnished chassis on my desk.

neweuser 09.06.2006 02:29 PM

LOL, I hear that! I own 5 trucks/cars now, only one runs top notch!!!! i have more parts on my floor than i have on the vehicles! LOL

jhautz 09.06.2006 03:27 PM

very nice.... But its a little more eloborate than I am looking for. I was hoping to find something a little more off the rack that could be modified slightly to work. Maybee like a modified boat motor mount or something.

Maybee something like this? http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/ima..._mount_2nd.JPG
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/forsale_motors.htm 4th from the bottom.

But with th ability to adjust height. I suppose I could just make a spacer to set this on.

Anyone done anything like this?

swiftneed 09.06.2006 04:05 PM

I am wondering if I might need something for the motor I just purchased a neu 15151yf let me know jhautz just incase maybe you can find a one by one aluminum angle and dremel a stand support

cabking 09.06.2006 04:28 PM

as long as you never want to change the pinion size, a rear mount should be easy to cobble together. the problem comes in making it adjustable for correct meshing.

Exactly

Maybe I should just run it easy (no jumps) without a rear mount untill I figure out my gearing and then make a stationary support.

Sneeck 09.07.2006 01:01 AM

What's the fun in that. You could make this brace idea very simple. You don't need that big arc over the motor which connect's to the chassis. It could be half the size with 2 hole's which connect's to the brace/ ring on the motor.

I only did it in this design so the arc would match up to the one's above the diff. My first idea was to let those carbon stick's cover the motor too, but that won't work. Another plus about the arc is that it act's like a motor roll-cage.

If you really want such a simple yet effective motor brace, I could make you one. Laser cut aluminium.

Cartwheels 09.07.2006 02:33 PM

Do this motor really have to have a rear brace? I was planning on running mine without one, but maybe that is a bad plan? On another motor I had, I used a piece of 1/2" plastic with a saddle cut to fit under the motor. Then it was mounted to the chassis.

jhautz 09.07.2006 03:30 PM

It probably doesn't have to have a brace, but this motor is big and heavy. I'm worried about the g-maxx motor mount bending/flexing over jumps.

Actually, now that I looked up the data sheet on the Feigao XL, its not any heavier than the XL that I have been running and its actually shorter.?.? I guess the increased diameter just makes it appear much larger. Maybee I'll give it a try with just a block under the back to support it on landings and see how that goes.

BrianG 09.07.2006 03:56 PM

Glassdoctor made a rear brace for his Neu motor. It's pretty cool, but you'll have to wait for him to chime in...

Now your just showing off Sneeck :003: ;)

OK. Got the 1515 installed... I think I'm gonna try running without a rear brace for a while and see what happens. It looks like it should be OK and there is just no damn room to put anything under the motor at this point. The rear suspension is literally right under the motor. Only a few mm clearance between the bottom of the motor and the springs. These revos sure don't have much room. You pretty much just have to pack it in there and make it work.

Side note... I just went from a 9XL to the 1515-2.5d. Just got in one 2 minute run in the dark to test the setup and reprogram the radio and ESC etc.... Can I say..... :dft008: Holly CR@P!!:010: In just a little short run I can tell a huge difference. Way more torque then the 9XL. And the 4 pole is unbelievably smooth at low speeds. Not even a hint of a cog. Can't wait to get in some runtime on it this weekend.:027:

glassdoctor 09.08.2006 09:06 AM

You will be blown away by the runtime I think....

As for the rear brace thing, I will get some pics of mine tonight or tomorrow for any interested. Basicly what I did was used some 1/4" thick plastic to make some plugs that fit tight into the holes in the endbell. The plugs are bolted to a brace or rear motor mount.

So it's almost like having a brace bolted the rear of the motor as far as vertical movement. It's just that it's not really "attatched" to the motor like normal... the brace it just attatched to the plugs which are shoved into the motor holes.

It actually is working very well. I have these on both the truggy and my buggy that has the motor up in the air over the center diff.

If this is clear as mud... wait for pics. :D

sjcrss 09.08.2006 10:53 AM

what would a rear brace run someone...sneeck....just asking is all

Sneeck 09.08.2006 12:18 PM

Not much. 2 plate's of 5 mm 7075, hmm I guess somewhere around 30-40 $ pending on design and excluding shipping from holland to anywhere. You still have to drill and tap the hole's yourself.

Cabking,

Let me refrase it lol; I can get you a laser cut alum. motor brace. My mistake, it does sound like i'm showing off.

sjcrss 09.08.2006 12:19 PM

cool thanks for the info..I'm gonna have to think about it....
thanks though

What diameters are the holes in the back of the motor? That sounds like it could be a do-able solution for me. Just asking cuz if anyone knows the diameter I could make this bracket up at work this afternoon and install it this weekend. I just don't have access to my motor till toninght

cart213 09.08.2006 09:44 PM

The diameter is 7mm, and the endplate is 1mm thick. If you are going to make some plastic plugs, I'd be interested in buying some from you. I don't need them for a motor brace, but I just want to keep dirt out of the motor. Otherwise, I'll just use electrical tape to cover the holes up. I don't think I need a brace, because I got a 1512, so it's shorter.
