Recommendations wanted...
 

can you recommend a brushless system for my Traxxas Rustler. I've rebuilt the truck with all fastlane machine aluminum... it got quite heavy. Upgraded batteries to GP3300's from radio shack... I got the batteries... big improvement in speed with all that fastlane machine aluminum on my truck... but I want lightning...

missing from those pics is the rear shock tower... added after my photo shoot.

I can afford maybe $250-300... but would like good speed and torque as our track has a few hills and obstacles. I've looked at a few and this one is spec'd for the e-maxx (which is prolly as heavy stock as mine is with the aluminum possibly) what do you think?

and... would I be able to run that system off two 3300 packs running parallel without much trouble?

I think a CC.Mamba 4600 or 5700 would run great in that truck, why 2 parallel?

Don't get the HV, its way too long and heavy, and the TQ will shred your tranny. I doubt your truck is 10lbs, but 5-6+ lbs tho I could see. You mention a track, aer you trying to race this thing? Those alu camber links are a bit silly and heavy, it would be better to get some ball ends and a Ti rod and be truely adj.

Prolly the best bet for your budget would be getting a mamba 5700 or 4600 and either a 3s or 4s lipo. 12NIMH would be very heavy. Exactly what are you looking for? Rocketship fast or just very fast but still ok for a track?

Parallel batteries for longer runtime mainly... I did steal some tie rod ends and made my own camber links, worked great. Our track is a 100 foot oval in the back yard that slants down over a little bank at one end, with two whoop-de-doo's in the middle of one straight stretch and a 8 inch ramp on the other straight. It's no professional course and was mainly designed to give us a place to play.

I'm lookin for more speed mainly to keep up with the duratrax evader my friend runs... after a lap or two... he's 3 ahead of me LOL.

well if u want to play on a race track the rusty is not what u should have bought but since u have one a mm will do good batteries wired for runtime could be good because it would stop wheelies ans u need some good tires also..... i dont know if that helped at all but thats what i think

yeah, I agree.... a mamba max would be plenty for that truck.... The tranny will not last long with 12 Cells.... Well, mine didn't anyways... I wouldn't use 12 cells again.. that's for sure....

I think the 5700 would be a great setup. A RadioShack 6 cell 3300 pack will give you around 25 minutes of runtime. They perform better if you feel like breaking down the pack and rebuilding it into a SxS pack. With 17/81 gearing, that will put you in the 30+ mph catagory. Need more speed? Make an 8 cell pack and you will be in the 40+ mph range. Still need more? Get a 3S LiPo and you're going to be in 50+ mph territory easy. The 5700 is one of the most versitile motors out there, IMHO. Those numbers are coming from a B4 buggy, and it's geared pretty conservatively, you can go far more insane from there. For instance, I have a 21T pinion...i don't think i'm gonna put that on there, haha! (best guess for that is 60+ mph)

The MM has plenty of power and torque to push a heavy truck around.

the only fast lane parts not on my truck is the aluminum transmission case, and all gears in there are still stock...

any suggested replacements?

Are you using the new rustler with the Revo/Jato slipper?

not sure, it's model 3705 or 3709 with the XL-5 ESC. I would assume so but haven't compared the two or researched it.

You need to get an aluminum idler gear for the transmission, and RPM bearing carriers and bearings for the wheels.

I am running nitro front knuckles, and bearings on the front.

rpm has a line of knuckles that hold over sized berings witch they also sell and a steel idler

My Rusty on 7-8cells has been very tough w/ this.

haha, let me downgrade my rec since that's all your trying to do, a MM5700 on 7cells or so would great. About what my 380c-6L is. I read 12 cells (didn't see the parallel note, and thought you were trying to punch a hole in the space-time continuum.

Any more than this won't really help you in such a race.

yeah, the stock idler won't last long. It will work, but it will wear/break pretty quick

The mamba controller is a dream to program. You won't be sorry.

If it came with the XL-5, you got the good slipper. The alumnium idler gear is a good idea, but i never liked the idea of steel and alumnium together and the potential damage to the diff gear, so i'm working on a traxxas SRT that i'm setting up with the new slipper and a delrin top gear as well as the alumnium idler. I think it will be a better deal than steel and alumnium together.

Edit: The RPM knuckles and rear hubs are a nessessary investment as i went through 5x8mm bearings like nothing with a brushed motor, brushless will rip them apart. I would suggest getting them first, because wether you go brushless sooner or later, you'll need them sooner, Trust me, i know

Ordered a Mamba Max & CMS 5700.... Installed them and rear bearing carriers, alum idle gear, and got some various pinions to play with....

MUCH MUCH MUCH thanks to you guys for all the advice and suggestions... Incredible speeds and power... Pretty much solved my main issue... posted a review in the product reviews forum. I haven't really played much cause it got to dark out to see it between streetlights! Can't wait til tomorrow!
