Bpp Lsp

Well here is my new baby I have been working on for the last month. I got my BPP chassis a couple weeks after squee got his. Here is what she has

Quark 125b, Feigao 7XL, 14/52 gears, Maxxamps 4000mah 4s packs, maximizer beadlocks with tractor tires, JR 9000T steering servo, esc box with novak cooling fans, UBEC, and some HPI Savage bits here and there. One of Mike's motor clamps is soon to be installed along with the second battery pack. I'm still looking for a good location to mount the esc box, one bad flip and that thing is toast. I'll also clean up the wiring later.

Thanks to all on rc-monster for such informative posts and for getting me hooked on brushless.

Nice ride!!

I don't really get the huge esc box though.

This was the initial bpp truck, i though?

natrix 10.24.2006 03:52 PM

I got the BPP chassis used from Jamie @ Starluckrc. I don't know what version it is.
The big ESC box...well I couldn't see a secure way of mounting it. I normally see the ESC zip tied down on other members rides, but the BPP chassis is curved up top. Can you suggest a better way to mount it?

squeeforever 10.24.2006 04:37 PM

I mounted my 7020 under the 3 braces in the back with zipties....Nice truck! I thought that Jeremy from BPP sold that truck...It was on Ebay, right? Jeremy sold his right after I bought mine. I was practically brand new and only used for 1 race day I think.

Maybe Jaime bought it from BPP off ebay. Jaime told me he raced the truck a few times. It came with an extra set of battery trays to accomodate wider batteries...other than that this is all I got when it was shipped from Jaime.

I hear ya about the motor mounts being a bit thin, down the line I will probably make a set of my own. How much does yours weigh? With a single pack I am at 11lbs 2 oz.

I think I will retry mounting the quark in that same position but without the fans. Cut the heatsinks so they slot between the cross braces. Hmmm you got me thinking now.

squeeforever 10.24.2006 07:55 PM

I dunno....Maybe I'm loosing it...Anywho, mine ways around 11lbs with 2 3S2P 8000mah packs :p. I need to see about those battery trays for the wider batteries...I had to modify mine for my LiPos and I don't particulary like it....I am gonna design one or modify Leroys for his MGT and get it machined. I will send you the file if you want. It is gonna be designed for the 51T spur, not the 65 like they came with though...I shouldn't really be a problem with the 4.3:1 diffs. If I were you, I would do a few mods. I would go with a 8mm axle conversion and Dace CRT 23mm hubs, and a buggy upper arm mod. I would also use set screws instead of the stock E-clips. Makes it easier to work on...

natrix 10.25.2006 10:47 AM

I've got the 17mm Savage hexes and mugen steering rods. Down the line I will convert to 23mm hubs and do the buggy arm mod if I get a chance to run it offroad. On Saturday, I'm racing onroad at a local HT so I'll get to find out if it runs as well as the nitro truggies. I have a set of GRP Park Monster tires and 22 degree hubs coming today and will run those on Saturday.

Big time..

sjcrss 10.25.2006 04:13 PM

it looks promising..but I think you esc box mounted to high personally....even with the body on...it doesn't look like it is well protected

sjcrss 10.25.2006 04:15 PM

nice truck to say the least...

natrix 10.25.2006 04:43 PM

I agree with you all on the ESC box being mounted too high. I'm going with squee's setup underneath the three rear cross bars. I'm going to trim the heatsink a little to squeeze it and the fans under there and completely forget about the outer housing.

Good news though...wife called and said I got a package from NY. Looks like my motor clamp came in. Thanks Mike! I forgot to add that the reason why I had to get the motor clamp was because the front cover on the feigao fell off during the first 90 seconds that I ran it.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32...l/IMG_1181.jpg

squeeforever 10.25.2006 04:54 PM

I don't think it will work with the Feigao C motors...By the way, when you ordered the 22* front hubs, did you get the package of screws and ball ends? You need the ball ends with the holder on them to run the 22* hubs.

your motor looks like it could use some rear support toward the back of the can...and I'm not sure if the motor clamp will fit the feigo as well....

natrix 10.25.2006 05:07 PM

Well that puts me in a bit of a predicament. I ordered the XL mount, so shouldn't I be good on length? Diameter I can understand there might be a problem, since the heatsink case on the feigao makes it larger. A rear support would make a lot of sense. I'll have to wait and see what the clamp looks like and go from there.

I did not get the ball ends. Do you have a link to the size? I have a few spare ball ends at home.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Jamie did not buy it from ebay. Jamie, brian & jeremy are all freinds. Jamie had some input in the design of the truggy.

squeeforever 10.25.2006 08:21 PM

I can't figure out why there were 3 for sale right around the same time....Davids, Jeremys, and Jamies...

Squee when you say david i assume you mean macll correct. If so he made a BL crt.

squeeforever 10.25.2006 09:34 PM

Yea. MacII. Yea, I know why he sold his, but as for Jeremy and Jamie, I dunno...

natrix 10.25.2006 09:50 PM

Thanks for the link squee. I have a few ball ends that should work for now.

And you guys were right, the motor clamp does not fit at all. I was hoping it would wrap around just the ends but the diameter is too small. I'll shoot an email to Mike and see if he has anything that will work as a clamp.

squeeforever 10.25.2006 10:27 PM

Natrix, me and Leroy (Coolhandcountry) designed a motor mount/diff holder for my truck. If you want, PM and we can discuss having 2 sets made. It wouldn't cost nearly as much if both sets were made at the same time. One major advantage to it is that it fits inbetween the braces for a better weight distribution.

natrix 10.25.2006 11:58 PM

I PM'd ya squee. Count me in for a set.

natrix 10.30.2006 12:48 PM

Just a quick update from my race weekend. I mounted the ESC right underneath the rear braces but with no fans or heatsinks.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32...l/IMG_1250.jpg
Since I am running the 52T spur, there is only room to mount the ESC. With no fans or heatsinks, I was thermaling right at the 3 minute mark. Gearing was 14/52 with 8000mah 4s. According to my wattmeter, I was hitting 1814 watts. Even when I set my throttle EPA to 75% and threw a couple fans on the esc, I still thermaled after 3 minutes.

I'm going to try mouting the esc and some heatsinks/fans on the opposite side of the steering servo. Time to get back in the shop and mill out a new mount. I'll also probably mill out the BPP logo to save a few grams.

sjcrss 10.30.2006 02:46 PM

very nice......keep us updated

glassdoctor 10.30.2006 03:19 PM

You are pulling a lot of amps there....like +130A

You can try gearing down, and running a ubec....

Has anyone run a 7XL without thermalling? Seems thermalling with a 7XL is common but maybe I haven't been paying attention ;)

natrix 10.30.2006 03:53 PM

I've been running the UBEC from the rc-monster store. I also have a 13T pinion I could have ran at the race but I forgot it at home. DOH!! From reading the quark heatsink threads, I know for certain that adding heatsinks and fans will go a long way in keeping things cool. It did not thermal at all when I had the esc/fans/heatsinks tucked into the black box.

My neu 1515 1y came over the weekend from Mike but the feigao ran fine during the races. Will the more efficient neu drop the temps on the esc? Or does having a more efficient motor only affect motor temps and runtime?

squeeforever 10.30.2006 05:30 PM

Yea, the Neu should increase runtimes, etc. Maybe it is thermaling because the motor could have been damaged when the front came off? I have heard of that happening.

glassdoctor 10.30.2006 07:08 PM

The Neu will drop esc temps given the same amount of power output... it will take less watts in to make the same watts out.

In other words, it takes less energy to make the same horsepower... so the esc and batts are happy cause they don't work as hard.

natrix 10.30.2006 07:22 PM

Thanks for the comforting information. I'm glad I ponied up the extra bucks for the neu. I have my new fans coming in from ebay. I hope these put out more CFM than my tiny 25mm novak fans.

Thank you all again for the useful information. I know I could not get through this project without your help.

sjcrss 10.30.2006 07:50 PM

they should work fine...and move plenty of air...that is the size I use...but only 2 of them above my controller and they work great...

natrix 10.30.2006 07:53 PM

Did you just thermal epoxy them to the ESC or use a different heatsink with the fans?

I run my 7xl on 14 cells with 12t/51t gearing on my 1/8 buggy when i had it with no thermaling issues. But i have a fan on my speedo .

GorillaMaxx360 01.06.2007 07:51 PM

Where can i get one of these they look so sick. Also what do these cost. this is what i have been looking for

They are not avalible anymore, they never went into production. But if you email brian at BPP he might have enough parts laying around were he could make you one.

coolhandcountry 01.06.2007 09:45 PM

I think i missed this thread. That is nice.

Bomb-Proof 01.17.2007 08:52 PM

I have all the parts to build them, we built a handful to race. Rc dropped off the map it seems for a bit ( still slow), so there wasnt much point in making a ton of them. Awesome truck on long tracks, the tight tracks give it a workout...the shorter revo based trucks are easier to drive on the tiny rough tracks. With single motor/lipo they can work very well on the short tracks though. On long big tracks (like we have in the south), nothing can touch it.

GorillaMaxx360 01.17.2007 08:57 PM

How much do you charge and do you include the bpp or are you just talking about the chassis.

Bomb-Proof 01.17.2007 08:59 PM

Just shoot me an email and I can give ya the rundown on price and everything. Its more than just the chassis...its like 30+ parts that make it up.

GorillaMaxx360 01.17.2007 09:03 PM

is it the whole truck like the one in the pic in this thread or would i need to buy the truck to complete this combo.

GorillaMaxx360 01.17.2007 09:07 PM

Bomb Proof what can i email you at.
