Fans Work !
I've been running a fan on the esc since day one with no problem. My 9xl was always at 180-190 degrees after a typical run and from what I've read thats too hot :013:
So I re-wired the truck with two fans. WHHEEEW! big difference in my motor temps. I just ran it hard for about 20 minutes and my temps......drum roll please the highest measured temp was 120 degress :027: My esc fan has really held up well through my jumping, crashing and general thrashing. I hope this fan does as well. Here is a pic for ya. Notice my batteries are REALLY strapped in. My Gorilla Max battery pads are in the mail. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...e/P1010036.jpg My work station...not that anyone cares :dft001: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...e/P1010042.jpg |
You are a sick man having a work bench that clean!
I am going to have to get one of those fans for my esc. Mine has been running around 200 deg. How did you wire it. Thanks |
fans work alot , by cooling and moving the air....nice job...also cool lava lamps....
one of the easyiest ways to wire a fan is to take a old servo wire w/ plug and wire the + & - from the fan to the red/black wires on the servo lead and plug it into a unused servo channel on your receiver....also it is best to use a 5vdc fan as well....
That sounds easy enough. I think that is even something that I can do.
That is not a workbench, that's a freaking clean-room compared to mine..
Moving air works miracles on hot objects with a heatsink. Considering the size of that fan, the airflow must be pretty good.. |
what?!?!? still on am! nice ride..but need new radio!
heck...my work area is either in the basement or the kitchen table...boy do i get into trouble when i do that
That's not a workbench(no tools or parts laying around) It looks more like a trophy shelf except for the Dodgers sign. I like how clean your wiring is if you don't count the receiver area. It all starts with a clean work area

I gotta agree on the 'Fans Work' think.
I put a 24V Photocopier fan on my ESC (Nearly cut my finger off) Temps went from 165*F to 100*F ! |
wow...that must be some fan then...but why a 24v fan...was it just what you had laying around or something...
If you want a crazy 12v fan, check this out. 60mm, 12v, 6800 rpm! Loud though. I had an 80mm version and it sounded like I had a small hairdryer on...
wow...I'll stick to my 40mm 5vdc fans....
lol, yeah, but if you want really good cooling... :)
Agreed brian, but I don't want it to sound like it is going to take off like an airplane either.....

^^^^^^Anyone?^^^^^^
yes it will, but it will run slow on 6v....basicly at half speed, if you can get a 40mm 5vdc fan and run it at 6v....it will push more air....makes sense
From experience with 12v computer fans, 7v is pretty much the lowest voltage to use. Otherwise, the fan speed is so low that it doesn't really push much air. It'll work, but the results won't be great. Those little fans don't have a lot of CFM to begin with and rely on speed to get the flow...
It's all coming to me now.
Thanks guys. |
good, glad to help....
Sjcrss, where do you get your 5v 40mm fans from. Can't seem to find them anywhere.
Thanks. |
