What's your brushless street cred?

This forum has lots of brushless experts with years of experience with multiple vehicles. I'm wondering what brushless setups everyone owns now and has owned in the past. I'll go first with what I've owned in chronological order.

Stampede: Novak GTB5.5 (sold, first brushless system)

Stampede (same one): Mtroniks Truck and Feigao 540 12S (sold the truck and motor)

HPI MT2: Mtroniks Truck and Feigao 540C 9L (sold the truck and motor)

RC18T: Tekin Mini Rage 6.8kv (sold)

Thunder Tiger ST-1: Quark 125B and Neu 1512/2.5D/f (sold the Quark)

Thunder Tiger ST-1: Mamba Max and Neu 1512/2.5D/f (currently own)

Then got an ss5800 in a T4
Then bought a Mamba Max 5700 for T3
Then got a few motors and a mgm 16024 from a friend( haven't used them yet
now playing with a Mamba Max/9XL in the G2R
Just bought three ss5800's from a dying hobbyshop, at a serious cut for the owner. I'll never go brushed again

BrianG 11.10.2006 08:46 PM

Ugg, I'm such an obvious newbie!
  • BL Revo V1: Stock chassis, emaxx tranny (single speed), 8XL, BK 20120, 14xGP3300 cells. Spektrum DX3. Now mostly parted out and sold. Only the tranny and slipper left, which I'm not sure I want to part with.
  • BL Revo V2: Stock chassis, stock tranny (locked 2nd gear), 10XL, Quark 125B, 14xGP3300 cells (same ones as above actually), Spektrum DX3.
  • BL Jato: Mamba Max 4600 system, 2s2p emoli, Spektrum DX3.
  • HoBao Hyper 8 (not nearly done): Motor ??, ESC ??, batts ??, Spektrum DX3.

I'm old as dirt, I had to look up "street cred" in my urban slang dictionary! I'm 42 and I have my first BL truck with a full Gorilla setup, UE diffs, CVD's and Supershocks. Running the show is a Quark 125 with a 7XL Feigao. Better late in life than never!

Ok, I don't feel so bad now at 33 years old. I'd probably still just have my first truck if they weren't so darn fun and challenging to build! :)

LOL! I'm 30 and just trying to sound cool!

Promod, 10~15 e-maxxes, plus all the others? WOW! I just got into the hobby about 1.5 years ago when I saw my friend's Stampede. As soon as I saw it I had to get one myself. I think that Stampedes and Rustlers are gateway drugs!

That I think you are correct on that one. I feel like 90 percent of RC addicts all just picked up a rustler or pede cuz it was cheap and looked fun. Then... Well we all know what happens next.

I think this is the oldest rc forum on the net. Most other places are a bunch of 14 year olds. BTW, I'm 37, but still 14 at heart.:018:

BrianG 11.11.2006 12:48 AM

I guess I'm in the 10% then since I started with the Revo. However, I plan on getting my son a Stampede for Christmas so we can both go have fun. (Actually, when I get it, I'm going to take it all apart to make it a "kit" so we can assemble it together).

I don't know what's worse;

using a word that sounds popular to use on age 30 or you need to look it up at age 42..

To be honest, that word made me expect you where like 17 cart..

I'm 30 too bytheway, i guess this forum has got a rather old gang hanging around..

Perhaps we should start a 'post your face' thread..

starscream 11.11.2006 05:30 AM

It seems 33 is the place to be :017:

Gmaxx with tmaxx 2 speed and Maxcim BL system on 20 cells (parted out roller)
E-Revo V1 with Maxcim on 18 cells (custom chassis plate complete Dec 04)
RC18t with mm 8000kv on 8 cells (parted everything out after 1 month)
MBX5 with 2nd Maxcim bl system on 20 cells (sold roller to Dafni)
E-Revo V2 with Maxcim on 5S Lipo
G2R with tmaxx 3.3 tranny and center diff w/ CC HV110/12XL on 8S (Sold HV)
G2R with Q125B & 12XL on 6S M1 w/ Custom single speed emaxx tranny with Center Diff - current project truck
G2R/t3.3 center diff with Maxcim BL on 6S - current racer
Next G2R iteration will boast a neu 1515 2.5d on 6S

smhertzog 11.11.2006 08:20 AM

34 and loosing count.
I always blamed being lazy on being from generation X now I guess I can blame it for my brushless addiction too.:027:

Emaxx: Quark 125b & 7XL (racer)
Mini LST: Mamba 25 & 8000kw
Emaxx: in progress MM & 8XL (basher)
Jammin CRT: future brushless convert
And enough parts to make my spare room look like a hobby shop exploded:035:

that sounds familiar...

i have got several setups to divide over several cars.. With some of these several cars, i have got different options.. (bashing/racing/crawling kind of bashing..) i call it The stress from the hobby...

Scoob 11.11.2006 10:05 AM

I currently have:

B4 ss5800 2s lipo
T4 MM4600 2s/3s lipo
T4 GTB 6.5 2s lipo
T3 Genesis pro 540 8s 2s lipo
T3 ss4300 2s lipo
Have an MM5700 motor and a 380c 9t not in use right now.
I like Associated as you can tell:028:

Emaxx and Stampede are brushed right now.

I can't remeber all the different setups I've had because I'm constantly moving motors and ESCs around. I've not sold a BL motor or ESC yet. Been "into it" for 1 1/2 years. I'm 29.

aqwut 11.11.2006 10:33 AM

we all have too many Toys... I try to control/tell myself just to stick to one vehicle.... But everytime I do this, I find myself buying a new vehicle.... Lifes short, enjoy it if you can afford it right.....

I started with an E-maxx.. I paid almost $800 for it... :) and I bought my brother a Stampede at the same time... Clost to $400 ... and A Yokomo YR-4 at the same time too (but used $350 RTR).... the Guy at the hobby shop ripped me off, because I didn't know anything back then...

I'm neither young nor hip. :)

I've got five year old twin girls who are getting Mini Quake SE's for Christmas. I'm gonna do my best to get at least one of them interested in this hobby. No brushless for them yet, though. They need to start out with something that only goes about 15mph and isn't too big. One time I made the mistake of handing one of them the radio of my GTB5.5 pede. The result was a high speed colision into our mailbox and a broken front arm on the pede.

go4gold 11.12.2006 01:13 AM

I thought BrainG and I were the only old ones I'm 34 just got into real RC about a year 1/2 ago. A friend was running a stock EMaxx so I bougyht it off him for 250 with batts and a duratrax twin peak charger. SinceI had a stroke last Ocftober I've had lots of time for research. I'm now running a 540 8xl fageo with a bk 9920 12-14 cells. The same ones that came with the truck. I've also put RPM arms and towers all the way around.MIP CVDs on all 4 corners. My dad saw my truck and bought 0ne from e-bay. Setup very similar to mine now. He is 57 or 58.We use them for trouble shooting back and forth His arrived as a POS. Junk motors(even for stock) broken ESC, all wiring rigged with tape. I believe that I have broke 1 of everything on my truck except the tranny or diffs. Its a shame when all the 14 and 17 y/o kids have better and more cars/trucks than the rest of us

Must be that perfect age where you have a job earning money that you don't know what to do with. With the exception of maybe a car payment/insurance, the rest is pretty much disposable income, unless you are saving for college or whatnot. No family to take care of, house payments, utilities, medical bills, etc. You know what I mean.

And before one of you 14-17 year olds get on here and write that you have this expense or that bill or whatever, the above statements are generalizations. ;)

If rustlers and stampedes are gateway drugs for rc, the novak brushless is gateway for brushless.

My previous post was the progression of 6 months, been reading and learning since the late '90s , but finally took the plunge this year

sjcrss 11.12.2006 02:41 PM

Here is mine from the very first to the present one Im running now

Modeltech system with a hacker motor
Jeti Phasor system with 30-3 motor
1895 micro Bk controller with 1920/8 motor
2095 Micro Bk controller ( still not sure on motor) more likely the 1930/10t I sent in for leroy

coolhandcountry 11.12.2006 02:45 PM

I think my favorite would be the 1950 8t for motor.
I am not sure on esc. The quark is great except for the 6s problem.
The mgm is great except for the programming part.
I loved the power of the 2250 though. Just wish truck did as much as me.

Yeah, the 2250... Nice and powerfull!! i am still considering testing a 2230.. would be a better ballanced setup for a truck i think..

It's as leroy says, the quark with it's 6S problem.. MGM's programming 'problem' I guess waiting is for the Mamba monster maxx..
