kv rating
is 2779 a good kv for 12-16 cells?
and can some one tell me how to id the power diff. i know the lower the kv the more cells u can run but is this rules an always? |
For most motors, you want to keep the total rpms at or below between 30,000-35,000 rpm for best efficiency. So, you just divide 35000 (max rpm) by the kv to get the desired voltage. Then you divide that by 1.2 for NiMH cells or 3.7 for Lithium cells.
For 16 cells, that would be over 53k - a bit on the high side. I'd stick to right about 12 cells if it were me. |
12-16 cells is a rather large difference. though the 8XL would be a good overall choice. (kv-wise, depending on the vehicle?)
|
its for a buggy im doing i think iam going with the 12 cells
|
For 12 cells it's okay. But 14/16 is pushing it..
What motor is it? |
it the Nemesis Blue 6xl i may try the Nemesis BLUE XLT- 4 but i cant find any info on the kv rating
|
stay away from that FD fraud.. It's most likely a 6XL..
why not get a proper KV type? |
is he?:mad:1 i know the Nemesis BLUE is the same as the Feigao/Wanderer i just wanted it in blue:027: also on a completely diff note do u guyz think 3mm carbonfiber chassis is to thin?
|
y do the Nemesis and the Wanderer 6xl have diff kv rating? they are the same right?
|
They should be the same. Maybe one is rated under load and the other rated no load?
|
i emailed fdm to find out the kv of the xlt4 for my buggy and he said he couldnt tell me it all he said is that the rpm range is 45,000-64,000 RPM thats all so i dont know if i will try it or not i know u guyz dont like his stuff but hes stuff gets some good speed
|
... but he doesn't list the temperatures of the components after a full run with the vehicles going at those speeds. If he can't give you a specific (or approximate) kv for the motor, then he is withholding information, which is just about one of the worst things to do to a customer (IMO).
|
Shoot for yourself, but those motors are hot.... the fact that he doesn't want to share his 'secret' receipt tells me enough.
it's just a hot XL motor, no wonder it's fast... |
i c what u mean
|
I wish i did stay away from him.
The worst thing was is tha i had already found RC-monster but not its forum and didn't think to see what people thought of his service and liked his conversions so chose to buy from him. BIG MISTAKE. I bought a XLT1 and a BK 9920 speed control from him he didn't tell me the Kv of the motor as mentioned before on th eforum and he sent me a BK marine 9920 speed control instead which is useless for cars and is now just gathering dust. This wasn't necessarily his fault but i had to pay customs about £45.00 ($90) first which just made it even worse. |
STAY AWAY from finedesign. My buddy ordered a "kit" from him. What was supposed to be an XLT motor was actually an L can motor that was labeled as an XLT. He likes the high kv motors.
I'd just go with either the Feigao or Wanderer 8XL for 12 cells. If you want fast, you could go for the 7XL, but that's gonna get hot. The 8XL on about a 14/46 gearing is just right for 12 nimh or 4S lipo. |
My experience with FD was horrible, he didn't want to tell me anything, and was being very rude to me. That was right before I found RC-Monster. :027:

Perhaps your marine controller has got carsoftware? (you can check the sticker on the side)
Arh, learn by the day Maxxman.. :p |
No i don't think so there is a tick through a box with WK written next to it. but i don't know what it stands for.
But a box with car is above but that doesn't have a tick so i doubt it. yeah you never stop learning!! |
I would contact fd about this; you bought it from him with the intention to use it on a car, not on a boat.
|
yeah but i bought it near the beginning of the year and if there was a set time to return it in a am very sure that it has run out.
But i guess i could because it hasnt been used at all. |
Try it!
|
thanks for the idea Serum
i will, i just don't know if he'll do anything about it as it has been a long time but i hope he does as it is new. edit: due to your idea Serum i have just e-maild fine design asking if he'll refund or give credit etc. thanks |
Don't get your hopes up...
|
Call him; that's my advice. An email with this type of content is easy to 'forget' i suggested trading it for a car version, not getting a refund.
|
Yeah, I agree, get it exchanged for a car version.
It seems like FD is out to ruin the sport for ppl... :031: |
i won't get my hopes up,
but i don't really need a car controller. (ordered a quark125)and am only making my e-maxx bl. but i could get it exchanged for a car one because that is better than nothing and if i don't use it, i could always sell it. i do know what you mean. FD are managing to ruin it whether they mean to or not. Also, if i were to call him it could be quite hard, due to time difference and cost quite a lot. |
I just wish they didn't have such a high Google ranking:
http://www.google.com/search?q=1%2F8+electric I've had to disuade some locals here from using them myself... |
|
okay
i sent CF an e-mail and i said Hi In february i ordered a BK 9920 speed control and a XLT1 from you with the intention of running it in my e-maxx but i received a BK marine 9920 speed control instead of the normal car one. Recently i found out that there is a difference in the software and that i can't run it in my e-maxx and as a result hasn't been used. I was wondering if it was possible to return it to you for a refund or credit or exchange. Thanks Matt. He said HI Matt , Tell me How it will not work, Your INFO IS WRONG. I have Sold them for years for that truck Matt, And Many others. The Software is the Same that is Way it will work with both Types, I Did that too for the market, And As the Importer for BK IN USA. And Designer of the 1/8 Electric market, I Can not See how you can say that. Again the info to you is not right. BK Did not ship any Marines , Just Cars, And That is what we use, It Was My Idea for something later with Marine. unit. The Unit You Have Will Work Super, Have Fun , Call If you need . Thanks Chris / FD i don'y get it. my one is exactly like the one below http://www.finedesignrc.com/speedcontrolslehner.asp including the pipes and the extra large aluminium heatsink yet he says it will work and is what he uses in his conversions. which it obviously isn't. Am i missing something???? |
Hi guys, I just dealt with FD. The reason I did was Serum was kind enough to advise me to get a 540s series( money being an object- I had suggested a 10L) for my 1/8 pan car. I ordered a 13t 540s Nemisis Blue. I would have ordered from Monster but he didn't list any motor that size, KV etc. Chris emailed me back saying he was out of stockon the 13t. I asked for a 12t-same thing.(both were listed as in stock on the web site) I told him I was willing to wait until he restocked. He asked what I was putting it in, so I told him. He replied that I needed a 10L at a minimum and even tried to tell me to put in a 9XL! This car only weighs 4lbs. He already had some of my money, so I went ahead and ordered a 10L. And you're right, he has an ATTITUDE!!! Don
