Why no women in R/C?

I don't think I've ever met a single women who was into RC, never seen one in the LHS (that was there for herself) and have never seen a woman post on a rc forum. While I'm sure there are a few, generally its prolly 99+% men.

Any theories?

I've noticed this with a lot of other hobbies, as its usually entirely men, but R/C seems to be the most male dominated of them yet. I bought my wife a XXT so she could play with me and my bro in law when we get together, but really has no interest in it aside from that, and never fixes the car when it needs it. Basically if I don't do it, she won't have it the few times a year she wants to join in.

Hmm...

squeeforever 11.18.2006 06:17 PM

I dunno...I went to a couple races last year and there was 1 girl...She was around 17 I think...Not bad either...Had a bad temper though...But don't they all?

Nick 11.18.2006 06:34 PM

Theres no place to put their make-up.

nbcaznmaster 11.18.2006 06:46 PM

no girls like dirty finger nails!

boss 302 11.18.2006 08:30 PM

at my lhs their was one girl that raced occasionally but wasnt very good. other than that there are not many girls in this hobby that race.

squeeforever 11.18.2006 08:34 PM

I think Troy got his wife pretty into it....(must have taken a miracle :p)

The way i hear it, she yanked the control out of his hands the first time she saw it
There are a couple here on the forums, one is waxxymonkee (found out on another forum) and sammieO

overtki11 11.19.2006 02:12 AM

dudes! if women were into this hobby big time then they'd speak to other women, like maybe our wives! and then they'll REALLY know how much we sink into our RCs!!!! that would be bad!!!!! wahahahah!!!!....

coolhandcountry 11.19.2006 09:18 AM

It is still evovling. There is more men drivers in racing as well.
There are a few. But if count up the numbers men are way more.
I think it goes back to the tom boy thing.

aqwut 11.19.2006 09:40 AM

We have pretty hot lookin' girl at our local hobby store here... she'd be smokin' hot if she had a little bit more of an *ss.... but everything else is nice... very nice... ;)

captain harlock 11.19.2006 09:54 AM

This thread gives me some sick feelings.

The thing that women do not like RCing as much as we do is the same as most of us dont go for make up, under wear, night dresses' markets as much as they do( we are of opposite genders. in most cases, what they hate, we like. What we hate, they like.)
We also hate to go shopping for our houses and would rather keep the money for modifying our RC rigs and spare parts. Probably that's why they hate this hobby.
You " husbands" should look for the dark side of this hobby.
You really dont know, maybe you'll end up in a rotten house, your wife has left you alone, your children are suing you in the court and you are being arrested for loving rc more than anything else........could this really happen????......I surely hope not.
My family is already turning crazy at me for devoting lots of my time for these small lovely machines...:)

nbcaznmaster 11.19.2006 11:56 AM

I've never seen a girl at my track, i've see ONE girl in a bashing vid before and one fat ulgy chick that works a allied hobbies (prob doesnt even race, its just probably the daughter of owner or something). This reminds of a vid i saw somewhere where they explained why women dont play video games. Theres always exceptions where theres a hot racer chick, but i bet the been taken already.

coolhandcountry 11.19.2006 01:54 PM

You may be talking about rc camels and dabids video. It has a girl in it on the
hill side jump.

MetalMan 11.19.2006 05:00 PM

That's their sister ;). I'm not sure if she is really into RC anymore, last I heard her Rustler was just sitting somewhere.

Here's a theory - many (un-married) women spend a lot of money on cosmetic items, so much so that they wouldn't have enough left to spend on RC.

captain harlock 11.19.2006 05:27 PM

Exactly.
I once asked my sisters why they aren't interested in rc and they said they dont feel any sort of interest in it.
They asked me, why dont you go and pick up some nice men wear from Jeordano, Millano, Promod, Mango....yup, you name it.

BrianG 11.19.2006 06:18 PM

Maybe it's a TomBoy thing? I was at my LHS track today running the Revo and Jato and a girl came up and started asking all kinds of questions about what it was, how to drive, how to enter in races, cost, etc. She was only about 10, but she might be a future racer, who knows?

sjcrss 11.19.2006 06:57 PM

wow....and "ouch"

BrianG 11.19.2006 07:07 PM

Yeah, that was maybe a bit harsh, but we're all friends here right? And what's a little bantering among friends? :)

sjcrss 11.19.2006 07:13 PM

yes it was a bit harsh...but it was funny to say the least....lol

nbcaznmaster 11.19.2006 08:18 PM

lol, i saw in a forum that the reason for selling was "Trying to save marriage". ITS NOT THE HUSBAND"S FUALT! RC is addictive! lets start a self help group! any1 have a phycolagist freind who would come and help us at the forums?

starscream 11.19.2006 09:04 PM

I've seen several on the pages of rc mags.
I wonder where they race ;)

ReDrUm_Racer 11.19.2006 09:49 PM

there's a girl registered on the-rc-zone.com called t-maxx girl. she's pretty cool.

glassdoctor 11.20.2006 10:06 AM

Not tryin to keep this thread alove, but I may as well mention that Rhonda girl who is a very good, nationals level racer... can't remembe her last name?

aqwut 11.20.2006 11:17 AM

Yah. RC is an addiction... I was addicted to it the first year I started racing..... blew $15K on 3 months.... after the race season..... I had it under controlled... after I really started noticing the bills.... but it was an experience... that's for sure... RC was my Crack.... Need more Girls in RC... a bunch of guys playing with remote control cars... hahaha just doesn't sound too much fun...

neweuser 11.20.2006 11:31 AM

Well, you could have a bunch of guys playing RC with women could mean a lot of crashes too!!! Hmmm, watch the truck, or watch the a$$!!!!

abiye 11.20.2006 12:18 PM

up here in canada we've got a few die hard chicks... there is one that's a pretty decent driver too... most of the other ones come with their husband/boyfriend/kids to the track and pit and marshall... 3 of the most hard core ones got to pretty much all the races we have in our series and even travel to the states for the big races... they are awesome rc chicks... my girlfriend makes and pretty good pit guy(person i guess)... she's not the fastest but she gets everthing done right... the best part it she likes to clean the car... lol

Yeah, you mean the girl from TeamOrion, right?

aqwut 11.20.2006 11:28 PM

Took an arm and a leg just to get my girl to hold and record with the camera....

glassdoctor 11.20.2006 11:35 PM

Yeah, I think she's sponsored by Orion now

crazyjr 11.21.2006 12:02 AM

Thats Rhonda Skelton, also sponsored by Team Losi.

I think it boils down to attention, they don't get any at any racing event. I have been to rc tracks, dragraces and SCCA parking lot obsticle courses and they are there, but unless they are racing, most are bored and mad

Yeah, she's not really into it any more, went for horsies and clothes or something. My brother and I have stolen most of the parts off her Rusty too, it's down to a roller now. :D
