ev·o·lu·t-x-tion - change in the genetic composition
got my revo tranny....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/PB230025.jpg got my powerplant from my "used" donor hyper 7 http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/da.../PC140018B.jpg http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/da.../PC140010B.jpg here's a "before" picture to show how much material i had to remove!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/PC130005.jpg here's the updated motor mounts....still not done yet but basically the profile is somewhat final..... gear mesh is adjusted by sliding the entire engine and mount along the crossbars... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/PC200003.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/PC200002.jpg glad to say that the ol' eye-ball-O-meter is still calibrated...... did a trial fit last night...and the spur and clutchbell line up perfectly! Haha. http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/da...PC140002bb.jpg right now...i have two choices ..... do i mount the tuned pipe inboard? which i'm more inclined to do right now as it will look very trick but it will be VERY close to the throttle servo! say bout 10 to 15mm away....Q:will a servo fail being exposed to heat from a tuned pipe? or outboard? for this i'd have to think of a solution to extend the header pipe to the outside of the chassis....this i've been told will alter the characteristics of the engine or i might reduce/lose the pulses needed to "pump" the fuel back into the engine....or BOTH!!!! any nitro experts care to comment/advise??? i'm a nitro noob as you can tell by now! well, this is how far i've come so far.....any thoughts/comments/advice guys? TIA |
looks real nice......sorry i don't have much nitro experience
|
hey no worries dude....thanks anywez...
well, decided to stay totally inboard for the tuned pipe..... but i had to mill out material from the inside of the chassis plate for it to clear though..... stinger exits very nicely out the chassis.... http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/data/500/SP_A0702.jpg here's a rear end shot....everything within the chassis rails...stock width.... nice and neat... http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/data/500/SP_A0700.jpg here's a pic of the throttle direction changeroo thinggamajigg!!! http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/data/500/SP_A0697.jpg here's the motor mount with the "finish" i was going for..... please ignore the 4mm screws i used to hold the motor to the mount!!!....those will be changed once i get a chance to go buy some nice hex ones.. from these raw blocks ... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/PC130005.jpg to these.... http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/data/500/SP_A0695.jpg http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/data/500/SP_A0698.jpg can't believe how much i actually milled off!!!! |
Very nice conversion
|
I love it! Extremely cool!
|
Very nice! reat job. I love custom work!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Are you going to have a vid??
|
I'm not exactly a Nitro expert, but I do know that the header pipe length and diameter does make a difference. It would probably be better to extend the actual exhaust tip as long as it isn't restricting.
If you are concerned about heat from the pipe, what about fashioning a heat shield out of some 1/16" carbon fiber or similar material? One thing I never liked about Nitro is the mess from the exhaust mixed with dust. It gets everywhere. That said, I would try to divert the exhaust as far outside the body as possible to keep things looking pretty. Nice conversion BTW! |
If you could make a rear exhaust that wold keep things much cleaner!
I'd donate a header pipe you could cut and modify (We'll have to see if they match but they look quite similar.. |
I was thinking. You could get like a revo header and turn the pipe out the rear as well. It wouldn't take much but some mounting for pipe. Less mess
going down chassis. |
ev·o·lu·t-x-tion
hey! many thanks for the very kind words and offers!!(procharged5.0)......
yes i was contemplating buying a rear exhaust of ebay and that would solve all my problems......but then...where would the challenge be??? (translation: thats at least 65USD without shipping!!! too much for this cheapo to chew on! haha...) i do intend to add on some tubing at the stinger and exit that out the rear of the truck......but only if its gonna look trick!!!. haha ... if not...i'll just live with the mess...hah!! i have since moved the throttle servo further away from the tune pipe...hopefully far enuf so that the heat will no longer be an issue??? have to wait and see tho.... a vid?? i sure do intend to have one on its maiden run.....to see the axles explode on the very first throttle!!!wahahahaha......my frens tell me this hyper 21 engine is capable of just doing that!!! |
some clearer pics....finally!
throttle assembly is bolted directly to the motor mount so that adjusting the gear mesh will not mess with the throttle linkages... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/PC250198.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/PC250200.jpg here's a closeup of the extra material milled off to clear the pullstart... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...-clearance.jpg the carb slider is actuated via a sloted link... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/PC250205.jpg |
I think it is tight loolking.
Some one else was talkingabout doing one. I guess you beat them to it. |

someone else????.....erm...??? from here?:013:..... |
That was me, I want to do a custom tube chassied Gravedigger with a similar setup. My concernis that the diffs are oriented wrong for nitro, I was planning on using TXT-1 axles to
|
so it was you...yes yes, the rotation thing really forced me to do my homework before finally getting the revo tranny......
but now that i think of it....even if it did rotate the wrong way....you could stick the engine in front and let the heat sink poke out the hood!!! now there's an idea eh???:005: |
Motor out the hood. That sounds tight.
|
That would be sweet as keck, if you are able to do that....
|
I want to do that with a custom BL setup: An XL motor with the RCM heatsink mounted in the center. Would look quite nice IMO...
|
That would look sick! Somthing to take into consideration..
|
haha...unfortunately, the motor does rotate the righht way so...the nitro engines staying aft....
yes an ep motor with a huge heatsink would look killer sticking out the hood of a truck... and if it had twin motors with the (now discontinued) trinity emaxx heatsinks sticking out there in teh front???......totally wick'd!!! |
So the Engine rotates right for the diffsin the rear position, thanks a lot
|
with the revo tranny ..yes.
|
Cool, I got a revo tranny with a center diff and brake kit waiting, just need to get off my lazy butt and do it
|

hmm.....i dun think they ever did release it tho...always said "out of stock" since day one!:005: |
I remember seeing it as well, too bad they didn't follow through
|
Seems like the TXT's popularity fell off pretty quickly, not unlike that of the MGT.
|
haha...i guess so.....
is the MGT very popular where you're at?... i've personally never seen one here in singapore...so sad... |
I mostly see Traxxas T-maxx, E-Maxx, and Revo plus the Losi LST2 and the HPI Savage.
Very few TXT's, MGT's, Thunder Tigers, CEN's, or others. |

Not surprising really, but interesting to know!

finally an update...a small one..but still some progress...
spent the last few nights trying out various shock mounts and finally ended up with these....i call 'em my "nice and clean without any fuss" look... they look like standoffs with the shock slid on..but they are "captured" .......will post detail pics soon..... but for now, here's where ev·o·lu·t-x-tion is right now.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2030034.jpg here's the underbelly shot..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2030022.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2030025.jpg rearend! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2030015.jpg frontend http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2030016.jpg here you see the chassis milled off on the inside to clear the pipe. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2030030.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2030066.jpg |

The truck will have less torque roll with the shocks like that.
There may be something avilible before to long that may help you to. I will have to let you know more later. It is still in design at moment. |

cool...keep me posted dude... hmm...i'm guessing ......just a guess here......its a tranny with output shafts that spin in two different directions....????:026: :010: or its a huge mother of a anti roll bar...???:005: |
Looks very nice overtiki!
|
man this thing will be hot when it is done.
|
I like it! Looks B I G!
|
hey thanks guys!!!..
actually, its still at the stock wheelbase, hoping to keep it this way.... something about a 1/10 truck with a "1/8" size mill poking out the back that just does it for me!:004: :026: finally managed to take some clear enuf pix of the "captured" shock mounts.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2080024.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2080032.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/P2080035.jpg hope this explains how the mounts work.... |
