cad

i'm learning autocad basic, any one else here draws/ designs parts for rc?

neweuser 12.20.2006 11:36 AM

I think there is one person, but not sure who he is. he is designing his own racer i guess. Can't remember his name though.

MetalMan 12.20.2006 07:43 PM

jagboy is the guy you are probably thinking of, neweuser. He uses Solidworks, and I've also done some Solidworks modelling.

remie 12.21.2006 09:44 AM

I'm designing my own frame on autocad2006 and inventor 9.
the frame is based on revo parts and is desinged for a center diff and 16 cells.

here's a sketch of the frame (still in designing fase).

Very nice! Let us know how it turns out, and or some progression pics!

remie 12.21.2006 11:26 AM

here are a few more recent pics, don't mind the collors:005:
I'm still waiting on some money for buying de motor and center diff so I can make the drawing completely finished.

shall I make a new topic in the revo department?

damn good work, remie.
i wish i was at that point already.
i can now draw a square and thats it.:026:

Serum 12.21.2006 01:40 PM

Looks an awful lot like the Gmaxx. what is the weight of it?

Nice work, don't get me wrong! but it looks relative heavy

neweuser 12.21.2006 01:45 PM

I was thinking the same thing, but it could be just the views. It would depend on the thickness. But it's nice.

Serum 12.21.2006 02:00 PM

I would personally take less thick material. the gmaxx lower plate is about 2.3mm thick. which is strong enough to hold batteries. You will be surprised how much a total assembly will weight. not kidding.

The batterystraps; take cups! i don't know if you did measurements on cells you have got? but gp3300 are different than 3700's and so on.. I hate the slots for the batteries, you are better of with a tub kind of thing that holds the batteries.

If he were going with Lipo and your idea Serum, think of how small the trays could be and drop some weight there. And use about the 2.3mm as you suggested as well. Really, they are just holding batts, so thinckness does not have to be anymore than 2.5mm

remie 12.21.2006 04:08 PM

yes I did the measurements on cells I got (sanyo 3600).

inventor says that it weights 0,159kg, I think I measured it on the wrong way?!

Serum 12.21.2006 04:54 PM

Yeah, most likely.

Can you determine the volume of the used aluminum?

it will weight much more than 159 gramm. :) My guess is about 700-800 gramms

Wouldn't that almost = 13/14lbs?

captain harlock 12.21.2006 05:07 PM

14lbs is like 3.5-4kilos if I'm not wrong.

jollyjumper 12.21.2006 05:18 PM

14 lbs is 7 kilo i think.

Serum 12.21.2006 06:01 PM

about 28oz

Serum 12.21.2006 06:02 PM

1 oz is about 28 gramm,

2.2 lbs is roughly 1 Kg (1000 gramm)

jollyjumper 12.22.2006 04:53 AM

back to the designing guys, can you download solidworks for free?
now i have a 30 day trial on bricscad.
but that doesnt get me anywhere.
and its 1500 euro for bricscad.

Serum 12.22.2006 12:30 PM

You could get a student version of SW for relative cheap.

jollyjumper 01.18.2007 05:14 PM

its been a while now, i've learned some more.
teacher says its gonna take 2 years to learn what i want to do.:035:

Welcome to college!

jollyjumper 01.18.2007 05:30 PM

its an evening class i'm takin. :D

Serum 01.18.2007 06:11 PM

JollyJumper; i don't know what you want to achieve? but two years??? Perhaps the teacher isn't very capable himselve? It doesn't even take you 1 month before you are able to draw your own 1:1 car, including a working engine/transmission/brakes etc etc...

2 years is rubbish

Now this is just a joke....but, maybe he's a little on the S L O W side? hehehehe

Serum 01.18.2007 06:15 PM

LOL, who said i was talking about the teacher? i'm in college now, so that is the last thing I want to do. But if you are the teacher, then, well.....um....yeah.:005: All in good humor!

crazyjr 01.18.2007 07:00 PM

4 kilograms is 8.8 pounds, 2.2pounds to the kilogram

Serum 01.18.2007 07:03 PM

I thought i said that?

:p

1 oz is about 28 gramm,

2.2 lbs is roughly 1 Kg (1000 gramm)

jollyjumper 01.19.2007 05:49 AM

remie, how long have you been drawing?

remie 01.19.2007 05:59 AM

verry long, I don't know exactly.

the hardest part is measuring de distance from al the parts and the holes.
I stil don't got the measurements right.:024:

jollyjumper 01.19.2007 06:21 AM

i think i'll go with very simple parts first then, like a plate with some slot's and holes in it :D

remie 01.19.2007 06:30 AM

I meant the measurements of the stock revo parts :dft012:

jollyjumper 01.19.2007 06:56 AM

okay, thanks.
mmmm custom stuff :004:

jollyjumper 01.24.2007 08:55 AM

how do i show a .dwg file?

remie 01.24.2007 12:15 PM

just make a print-screen and copy it to paint or something.

jollyjumper 01.24.2007 01:29 PM

ok, thanks.

Bomb-Proof 01.24.2007 02:33 PM

you can get jpegs out of cad programs, they are all different though. Just gotta know the correct command.

Aragon 01.24.2007 08:00 PM

Jolly, if you haven't already, do yourself a favour and check out Alibre Design. They offer free 3D CAD software that is really easy to learn and comes with OK tutorials to get you going.

After a few hours of learning I made this design.

cemetery gates 01.24.2007 08:19 PM

Also, EMACHINE SHOP is very easy to learn and free! After a few hours I made this:

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...otormount2.jpg
The other good thing about emachine shop is that after you design a part you can send the file to RC-Monster Mike and he might be able to make it for you, like he did for me.
