I know the feeling! That's why my project wound up being spread out over a year and a half! I hope to finish it in the next month or so.

MetalMan 12.29.2006 01:54 PM

For 2 of my cars, I got lucky. Brand new HPI MT2 18SS with $50 receiver and $130 in servos for $40, which my parents paid (I got it for X-Mas). New-looking TC4 with servo for $5 ($10 including the body), and only needed $27 in parts to get running. I got my Revo rolling chassis a while ago for $200, and had to replace about $30 worth of parts. The rest of the parts I made myself.

Things get cheaper when you make them yourself. Since I tend to have a tight budget (working 12 hours/week at $6.75, and half gets put in the bank), I do whatever I can to save money.

coolhandcountry 12.29.2006 02:16 PM

It helps to have decent job and low bills.

Procharged5.0 12.29.2006 02:22 PM

Decent job, yes. Low bils....NFW! Wife, kids, cars, house, etc. :026:

I may need to start mowing lawns in the neighborhood just to support my RC habit! :005:

I just sold off my Losi stadium truck and a bunch of other stuff to help fund my new brushless system.

I'll be ordering a 9920/8XL/UBEC or a 9920/1940-8/UBEC as soon as I can make up my mind on the motor. If I went 8xl instead of the Lehner I'd have enough $$ to by an eagletree data aquisition system too. Very tempting!

GO LEHNER! Get the eagle tree later. And yes, a good job is the key! Also a GF like mine that makes good money too!

How'd you manage that! I'm jealous!

My wife could care less about my drag racing and RC interests! (Although I could care less about her tennis interests, so maybe it works out?)

And she didn't break it either! All she did was give me the radio, and we got in the car afterwards and said...."i want one"! so i built her a stock, then she said it was not fast enough!

Procharged5.0 12.29.2006 06:23 PM

Ah yes, stuff dreams are made of!

My wife rode in my Supercharged Mustang and her response was.....why do you need so much power? You can only go 60 on the highway anyway! And it gives me a headache! It's too loud!

And she considers the RC's to be "toys" ...."toys"? "toys"? BLASPHEMY!

But in all fairness she did give me a REVO3.3 for my birthday and a few years back she gave me a founders membership & season tickets to the NASCAR track in Joliet Illinois aka "Chicagoland Speedway" so she still gets a "thumbs up", she's cool but does not appreciate the same things.....

OH, and she got a bit crazy when my father gave me the 48" replica of a 48' Chris Craft yacht we built together years ago! Is that a boat? Why do you have that? Is it staying? WHY?

LOL

It's on display in my home office (powered by a 1.5hp watercooled motor)

anyway....

neweuser 12.29.2006 06:27 PM

All give and take bro, you ain't got it so bad...but when she said the comment about the power...I would have said..."cuz it makes my balls rumble too"!
Sounds a lot like my 67 Chevelle. 396 bored 60, high lift cam, roller rocker arms, 411 gears with a manual 4 speed, staggered 2-4 aluminum intake with dual (crappy) holly carbs, but it flew!!!!

Procharged5.0 12.29.2006 06:46 PM

There's nothing like a big block! I had a '69 Charger R/T 440/4bbl/4speed. That car was awesome!

My friend Todd and I have a '70 Challenger, full chassis car certified to the 7.50's loaded with a 572" Wedge & 2 stages of spray. makes 1180 on the motor and somewhere north of 1600 on the bottle. I've sold out part of my interest back to him but I still build & tune the car.

The Mustang is electronically (and by virtue of a low boost pulley) being held back until I can get a better shortblock & trans combo built for it. It will make better than 640hp but the shortblock would check out at that power level so I've "Tuned it" for about 540hp.

can't wait to get it out this spring....it's been in storage for almost 2 years but at least I've had a chance to get the new fuel system & datalogger installed/upgraded and ready!

coolhandcountry 12.29.2006 06:58 PM

I got one of them projects to procharge.
Got a 79 short bed chevy. 350 block 400 nodular crank 5140 rods forged pistons roller cam roller rockers after market heads team g intake msd ignition
distrubtor wires holley 870 carb 700 r4 trans with all the goodies 3800 stall 4.56 rear with detriot locker
Engine man said should be in the 500 hp range.

Procharged5.0 12.29.2006 07:13 PM

That's cool Leroy! Thanks for sharing! Post pics if ya got-em. I welded in tubs in my friends dad's chevy shortbed. He had a warmed over 350 & turbo 350 trans. Ran high-12's on the sauce. Not bad for a mild motor.

I guess we're officially "off topic" but, oh-well.

coolhandcountry 12.29.2006 07:51 PM

The motor went a Low9 in 1/8 with 4 wheel drive 33 inch tires and nothing lightened.
I am hoping for a mid 7 in the 1/8. Traction is key.

Procharged5.0 12.29.2006 08:08 PM

Pictures????

Would be fun to see!

coolhandcountry 12.29.2006 08:15 PM

It needs a paint job now. It is coming together slowly. Got cold out so haven't done as much to it lately. I try to get a few for you.

phildogg 12.29.2006 08:50 PM

I used to have a mustang also.. street/drag.. ran good. had a 351 windsor, with world products heads, solid cam and def, carburated.. lol ran 6.90's on motor in 1/8th and 6.50's on a 125 shot, used to street race it with a bunch of peaople but hard to get a race, everone arguing over how far are you gonna set them out and stuff. anyway its long gone now..

Procharged5.0 12.29.2006 09:04 PM

Any chance you have pics of it???

Sounds like it was a nice car. BTW, what year was it?

Good answer!

I "burned up" several cards building the Mustang. Trying not to do that with my RC's.....thats why it takes so :035: long to build them "right" these days!

phildogg 12.29.2006 09:14 PM

I'll have to look around.. it was a 93 lx hatch.. fuel cell,8pt cage .. looked good to me any way.. had a friend who was my neighbor at the time had about the same car except a trunk style, had a 306 with ported world heads big cam, cage, mini tubs ran 29 x10w slicks on the street anyway had a wreck one night and I def need to find those picks..
phil

Procharged5.0 12.29.2006 09:34 PM

Cool! mine's a '92 GT Hatch, 5-speed. Stock shortblock, Stage IV TFS heads, Custom Roller Cam, Aeromotive Fuel System, Procharger (11 lbs boost) and a laundry list of parts. No cage just yet though. Ran 11.80's on the motor. Hoping for low 10's on 11lbs of boost, might even be able to squeeze out a 9.80 - 9.90 on 14lbs!

It was a sad day in California last week Leroy. I sold my little supercharged Toyota Truck.:dft004: I never finnished putting the engine back together. You know the drill, between work, kids, family, rc, and my brothers time, I just didn't see it ever happening. So it looks like we will not be able to race each other. I do still have the engine though, so who knows, maybe someday.....

go4gold 12.30.2006 02:22 AM

Procharged, You can do what I'm doing. Getting rid of the old lady and a lot of the bills. Only problem is now I only have half the money which seems to be working out in my favor if you don't count the added stress of divorce, selling my house, and moving. At least I got to keep all the toys. To answer the original question, ebay, rc-monster and time. It's a lot easier if you're not competing against your friends or racing

JThiessen 01.01.2007 05:27 PM

Trying to "keep up with the Jones's" will get you in financial trouble real quick. As stated before, a good job over time will give you financial stability. Be diligent in paying off the bills rather than going for the latest new toy on credit will pay off in the long run. Establish a budget, and always make sure there is just a little for "fun", but stick to it. DO NOT use credit. You loose more money on credit than you would gain by putting that same amount in savings and letting it grow.
Ten years ago after my divorce, I could barely afford 1.50 one night a week for a Burger king Cheese burger, and 10 bucks to go out and have a couple beers. Patience.....its hard to do, but it does pay off......

XXXRustler 01.02.2007 03:21 PM

This my kind of post. I've been out of the r/c hooby for 15 years but always have been into mopars. I have a 74 Dart Sport (I have owned for 17 years)with a 572 pump gas alum block in my street car. Last year she went 9.8's with a 1.35 60ft with marathon 93 :).

Now if I can figure out how to build an electric rustler to beat some of my friends r/c nitro cars/trucks

Procharged5.0 01.02.2007 03:29 PM

First.....Welcome to the forums!

Second......Damn Nice Mopar! PLEASE!!! Post Pics! PLEEEASE! :004:

Good luck with a speedy & amicable (as much as possible anyway) divorce. Divorce it tough. My wife went thru a 2-1/2 year + divorce with her idiot X and the attorneys got pretty fat & happy because he couldn't settle on ANYTHING!

Settle & get out before the attorneys gobble up all your hard-earned $$$.

Do you have any children???

XXXRustler 01.02.2007 08:56 PM

Pro

Where should I start? Who has the fastest Rustler around or another truck/car like it. I need a proven combo that will kick butt. My lhs has a guy who says he knows what I need but he races indoors. I'm just looking for some weekend bashinh with the buds and kinda show tham up :)

Thanks
