One lightweight savage conversion.

4 Attachment(s)
18 grams on the motorholder to be precise..

planning on putting together a fair lightweight basher (as far as possible with the savage)

CF battery trays are in progress.

Getting some CF hingepins shaved off a decent 70 gram..

Using the 2 speed transmission (heavy duty 2nd speed), mechanical heavy duty brake, Hotbodies C8019 cups, GPM/Dynamite aluminum housings.

Sylvester 01.14.2007 01:50 PM

Thats light! Looks good Rene! Is that the extended chassis?

Lets see some lsp battery trays! ;)

Serum 01.14.2007 01:54 PM

No, just the short one! the extended doesn't fit a shell nicely.. and it's very long.. i like the short wheelbase for a basher to be honest.. makes it nimble and easy to control in the air..

LSP trays? what do you mean? i am working on some carbon fibre trays..

Sylvester 01.14.2007 01:55 PM

The "ultimate" trays you were talking about in another thread ; ill show you mine once it is done, involves nylon, aluminum and a bit of machining..

I agree with the short wheelbase.. not needed for bashing. Its also lighter too!

Serum 01.14.2007 01:58 PM

Ah, yes, that are the ones for lipo-packs.. This truck will use nimh cells.. it's better suited for bashing IMO..

Sylvester 01.14.2007 02:01 PM

It really depends how the batteries are placed, and how hard you bash;)

Serum 01.14.2007 02:06 PM

That's what i said; NIMH... no matter where they are put, for bashing i put more trust in nimh than in lipo.....

Mike.L 01.14.2007 02:21 PM

looks nice and its lighter....what more!:p

coolhandcountry 01.14.2007 02:23 PM

Does it let the motor have any flex?

Sylvester 01.14.2007 02:25 PM

There is a plate under the motor leroy so i doubt it would have any flex.

Serum 01.14.2007 02:50 PM

No flex.. Stiffer than the other plates i made. can't go up/down or left/right

coolhandcountry 01.14.2007 02:57 PM

It looked so far back on the motor.
I thought it may have let it move or flex a little.
It is good to know it don't though.

Here; this explains..

green24 01.14.2007 04:39 PM

You should try and mount a center diff. It would be lighter than the bulky Savage tranny.

GorillaMaxx360 01.14.2007 04:46 PM

Very nice chassis lookes light.

Serum 01.14.2007 06:09 PM

Green; something like this?

I decided to go 2 speed.. I liked that about my first BL savage with the plettenberg bigmaxx. the 2 speed puts the Grrr in Swinger..

I got all the stuff here to make a centerdiff savage.. Got the right length bones, a proper centerdiff... I've got another savage conversion in my mind with a centerdiff. it will be a savage-truggy covnersion.. working on the suspension geometry at this moment. the shocks are placed too far to the wheels.

coolhandcountry 01.14.2007 08:42 PM

Hey rene.
I didn't notice it was mounted to thefront of motor. I thought just the ring
held it. That is phat bro.
Could you hook your american bro up with one?
I am leaning to a new savage conversion.
I am not going into alot of detail. I plan to go 3 speed.
Mechincacl brake.
And a few other fancies.

I agree. You did that in a previous conversion, why not this one?

cemetery gates 01.15.2007 12:32 AM

I third the center diff instead of the transmission. The savage transmission is really heavy and bulky...

Bye:018:

MetalMan 01.15.2007 12:57 AM

When I assembled my Savage (the guy I got it from broke it down), I got all of the tranny parts together and thought, "There's no way in Hell I'll use this thing!" With all of those metal gears and things, it's just a waste (IMO).

Motor Mount

http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/atta...8&d=1168801609

I would like to remake this motor mount, but I don't find a 'L' piece of aluminum or carbon.
The only thing I have found is a 'L' of galvanized sheet, but I don't know if it could be ok for a motor mount, because if I put the motor on this galvanized sheet, I see that this is magnetic with the motor.
Can I use it? Or what can I use in alternative?

rckcrwlr 06.01.2007 08:29 AM

Serum,
That looks sweet. That mount is exactly what I was looking for when I did mine...Low CG.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread.

Hi,
first post but saw that you have gone for some carbon fibre hinge pins.
I found that mine wore out and snapped within several tanks.
Lunsford titanium are awesome , Not as light as C/F but lighter than stock buy about 40%
Integy rear tie rod eliminators will allso take off about 60 grammes.

Could you tell me more about your centre diff mod or link me to some pics.
Many thanks.
P.s. The BL stuff on here for a savage is wicked.

Serum 06.11.2007 04:30 PM

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know what you used for cf?

It now has the integy things on it. But you can't set any toe in or out.. It's just fixed.

Check the cdsavage on my picasa website, the pics are there.

mongrelflea 06.11.2007 04:36 PM

Thanks for the reply, serum.
I used JDcarbon hinge pins.
They were like a large piece of pencil lead. lol

Serum 06.11.2007 04:40 PM

they should be pretty tough, i got some fiber enriched 4mm cf from a local kite store here.

mongrelflea 06.11.2007 04:49 PM

Toyed with kites for a while . Stunt , power, traction , surf.
Now you have mentioned that you got your 4mm hinge pins from a kite shop.
Don't know why i didn't think of that myself.
The structure is completely different from the jdcarbon pins.
I'm sure you'll have more luck with your pins than i had with mine.
