Its 1/8th right?

GorillaMaxx360 01.15.2007 12:20 PM

Man i knew they would come out with one i love xray. I think it will be sick. probably to expensive to convert for me though the nitro xray touring car will realy shake the racing world though.

captain harlock 01.15.2007 04:38 PM

Probably a magnified version of the X-Ray buggy.

jollyjumper 01.15.2007 05:42 PM

i would do it if there was away to go around the steel spur problems.

Mike.L 01.15.2007 06:11 PM

you guys know that associated is making a 1/8 buggy?

GorillaMaxx360 01.15.2007 06:14 PM

nope

Sylvester 01.15.2007 07:41 PM

Curious what this means..is it vehicle specific or a radio noise concern...just asking as I've considered steel spur for my Cen Matrix conversion for durability's sake

Steel spurs eat pinion gears for lunch in electric conversions. If you go with a steel spur prepare for replaceing the pinion gears very fequntly. I've heard as much as every few packs. Even using the hardened pinion gears they just dont last. Plastic is much better.

Thanks

jollyjumper 01.16.2007 02:58 AM

yes, they seem to eat pinions.
atleast thats what i read, also a ofna or kyosho plastic spur doesnt fit on the xray diffs.
maybe slipperential v3 is the answer? but will there be one that fits:032:

jollyjumper 04.11.2007 04:51 PM

who is into xray 1/8th scales?
i'm lookin for info about them.
about the center diffs.
any one?

BrianG 04.11.2007 05:05 PM

I'm actually testing steel pinions in my Hyper 8 and my CRT.5 right now to see just how long they last. Both vehicles have very solid motor mounts so mesh shouldn't be an issue. After all, when you get the steel idlers in the emaxx tranny, the both the top gear and the idler last a long time...

jhautz 04.11.2007 05:09 PM

The idlers in an emaxx tranny are wider gears, which results in a larger contact area between the gears spreading the force over a larger surface. The steel spur gears are all very thin faces which concentrates the force in a very small area.

Plus a little lube in the emaxx tranny goes a long way.

Serum 04.11.2007 05:10 PM

Yes, but they have got a 3 times larger contact area. But steel on steel can work, no doubt.

zeropointbug 04.11.2007 05:12 PM

Steel spurs... I bought a RR steel 72T spur back in the day with my STOCK emaxx, and it was eating my pinions up very quickly. 15 packs through it, and the pinions were razer blades.

Dafni 04.11.2007 05:12 PM

Yeah, works for nitros too. Just a matter of the right pinion.

BrianG 04.11.2007 05:26 PM

Well, I plan to see. It would be nice to be able to use steel pinions on some apps where using a plastic spur simply requires too much modification (CRT.5). It would also be nice to use the steel spurs simply because all the buggies come with them stock.

At any rate, I'll see how they do. If anything, I think I'll see greater wear on the Hyper 8 since it's a heavier vehicle, geared way too high (46/16) on a high kv motor (kv=2600 on 4s). Oddly enough, everything stays cool despite that.

GorillaMaxx360 04.11.2007 07:10 PM

what kind of lube should you put in your emaxx tranny and how much

BrianG 04.11.2007 08:08 PM

I got a small tube of what looks like white lithium grease from my LHS. All the tube said was "Losi brand lubricant" or something like that.

jhautz 04.11.2007 08:09 PM

Stock you dont need any the plastic is slippery enough, and most dont use any even with the streel idlers. I like just a little light grease in mine when I run the steel idler. I just like to a little something in there for the metal to metal of the top gear to the idler. Some say it adds a little resistance to the transmsion, but its so little that there is no way you can tell. At least I cant, not even by hand. Another thing it seems to keep the gears a little quieter. Less gear whine. I like quite.

BrianG 04.11.2007 08:13 PM

Yeah, the grease adds a little stickiness (I guess that's what you would call it), but it sounded smoother when I used some. Doesn't take much. I just put a small dab on 3 spots of one of the gears and just spun the output shaft slowly until all the gears were fairly evenly coated. If you dab grease on the gears and then run it WOT, the grease will fling off onto the walls of the tranny which doesn't do much good.

Dafni 04.12.2007 02:12 AM

As for the XRay XT8, I was looking forward to this truggy for so long, but now it seems that the XRay crew made some cost cutting changes since the XB8 that I will wait until they release a TQ version. Gotta love the no-C-Clip attitude of the buggy... going back is out of question for me... let's hope they bring a TQ or EC soon!

Mr.lst 04.12.2007 02:25 AM

Brian choose a side autobot or decepticon! You can't be cool with both! J/K!

GorillaMaxx360 04.12.2007 07:58 AM

how about associated black greese. brian if i went to my lhs what would i tell them in order for them to know what that losi greese is.

jollyjumper 04.12.2007 02:56 PM

dafni, this model is the top level xt8.
no others will come out till next year i suppose.

I know, I keep following the XRay news too. But I still hope they'll bring out a TQ soon.

jollyjumper 04.12.2007 04:13 PM

hey dafni,
would an entire kyosho or hotbodies center diff + mount not fit the xray chassis'?

Dafni 04.12.2007 04:48 PM

I'll check this out for you.

jollyjumper 04.13.2007 05:06 AM

i forgot,
would the outdrives also work with the original cvds bones?
will the kyosho diff fit in between the cvds bones?

if it fits we just found the perfect solution.:004:

otherwise one would need to make an adapter or a plastic spur.:026:

Which is no big deal either.

I will try to put a HB diff in the xray center bulkheads the next time my Xray homie drops by, okay?

jollyjumper 04.13.2007 08:25 AM

sweet, thanks a bunch.

Dafni 04.13.2007 08:37 AM

You're welcome. Maybe I may get a chance this weekend.

jollyjumper 04.13.2007 08:57 AM

i sure hope it fits.

thanks again.

mmmmmmmmmm :004: XRAY XT8 :004:

tom255 04.13.2007 03:34 PM

I have ordered XT8 allready! Waiting it. I am in first 5 guys who will get it here. But conversion is on question mark now becouse LSP is now what i convert. I took Xray for pure raceing and in law race. LSP for outlaw. But who knows :)...

jollyjumper 04.13.2007 03:58 PM

sweet. tell us how it runs.

jollyjumper 04.14.2007 05:37 AM

i may just get the :004:xray:004: instead of the 8-T.
i'm not sure yet. the shop said it wasnt a logical choice, but after all my favorite brand is xray. close second is losi.
i think the xray may be built stronger then the 8-t.

any input on this:032:

jollyjumper 04.15.2007 10:21 AM

well i decided to stay losi 8-t.
