heat shrink ?

what kind of heat shrink do i gt to put over my batts?

i broke my 7 cell batt and my g/f dad took it to the base and had some people solder it back together and they also used this awsome heat shrink. ive never seen any this big but it held the pack together perfect!! so where should i get heat shrink like this? or what size is it called?

thanks!

you can get battery shrink for about four dollars and you get 2.

here is the 3 and 1/2" 6 cell battery shrink from parma.http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDA14&P=7

here is a 3" 7 cell battery shrink. also from parma. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDA13&P=7

t-maxxracer32 01.15.2007 11:36 AM

how thick is that?

i want it to be able to hold up together with my bashing... also i might have the cells be 8 cell so would the 7 cell work?

Mike.L 01.15.2007 11:56 AM

its pritty thick and should be fine. for 8 cell packs you may want to buy a 36" long shrink and cut it to your own sizes.

t-maxxracer32 01.15.2007 11:59 AM

they sell that on the tower?

couldnt find any

captain harlock 01.15.2007 12:32 PM

t-maxxracer32 01.15.2007 01:00 PM

alright cool thanks!

Mike.L 01.15.2007 03:10 PM

just type in "Battery shrink" and it should come up.

offroader 01.18.2007 12:42 AM

Your LHS should carry shrink wrap for batteries.

neweuser 01.18.2007 01:10 PM

Also, it helps to Glue your batts as well, not just shrink wrap them.

offroader 01.18.2007 02:16 PM

Great idea I never glued my batteries so they're never straight. I'll do that next time. Would you hotmelt them?

no, shoe glue. Put them in a jig, make sure they are straight, glue them, then solder.

shoe goo

Hot glue would work well if your batts don't get hot or warm, once the batts are pretty warm though, the glue does not keep a strong hold.

The trouble with glueing is if you develop a bad cell, it is harder to replace it. I just use a battery jig to solder the cells. Then use shrinkwrap and it comes out straight every time...

this is true. for me though, if i have one bad cell, i replace them all. I never liked running a newer cell with ones that have already been run for awhile.

That makes sense. But sometimes people have their "bashing packs" where cell-matching is not important. It just means that when the pack dies, there will still be one good cell left. It's not like you're trying to replace a bad cell in a lipo pack where it is much more important to have matching sets, especially if in a parallel group.

I agree with you brian totally. I just never screwed with them like that...never too much about doing it and kinda never liked the idea as well. I know it can be done and is good to do with a basher pack. More worth it than dumping the whole batt
