Mini Quake

I decided to pick up one of these since now that I'm finally satisfied with my BL e-maxx. And of course I had to put a BL into the mini as well.

mini-quake
GH 4700 motor
Mamba 25 esc
3s lipo

No pictures yet but they will come soon. I haven't raced this against the e-maxx but seems like it can keep up.

e-maxx
9xl motor
quark 125 esc
16 gp3300

If anyone is interested in another vehicle, you will love this thing. It's easy to wrench on, inexpensive(especially compared to BL e-maxx), and fun to drive.

crazyjr 01.16.2007 06:15 PM

I have one as well, with the 4700 motor and with a 6 cell1400 it runs as good as a 1/10 buggy

GorillaMaxx360 01.16.2007 06:23 PM

my friend is getting one

crazyjr 01.16.2007 06:43 PM

if he hasn't ordered yet, tell him to get the SE, its brushless ready out of the box, No brushless, just all the hopups that count

Mike.L 01.16.2007 07:10 PM

yea i'd like to see some pics:)

GorillaMaxx360 01.16.2007 07:45 PM

he is getting the se and putting a Tower hobbies motor in it cant remember the name but it is blue or purple and it is a big heatsink it is also 4900 or something of that nature rmp.

skellyo 01.17.2007 07:22 AM

I've got a MQ SE with a GH4700 also. It's a heck of a fun little truck.

crazyjr 01.17.2007 05:32 PM

I love mine, its just big enough to play on a 1/10 track. I had mine about 8 ft. in the air onse and it never broke

Brushless or brushed?

crazyjr 01.17.2007 07:42 PM

Needs a brushless to really have fun

GorillaMaxx360 01.17.2007 09:00 PM

i remember now the motor is a golden horizons 4900, 4700 or 4500 rpm brushless motor.

phidailo 01.18.2007 12:10 PM

aargh..pictures will have to come next week when parts come in since I broke the arms and front shocks last night running into a cinder block at about 25mph.

The only downside is that I can really run it at full throttle because you won't be able to control it and do countless cartwheels unless you're an excellent driver :)

GorillaMaxx360 01.18.2007 01:32 PM

Man sounds harsh running into a cinder block at 25 man that must have been painful for you to watch and your car but man you only broke 2 shocks and the arms that is pretty good cause on a normal truck a lot more would have broke like bulks, shocktower, bumper, and lots of others. YOu are talking about the maxx right what kind of shocks are you running and what kind of arms also did you bend the shock shaft or snap the shock body. Pics would be nice thanks.

When I first got my RC18T, I drove it right down the drain on the side of the street! Didn't think it would fit...all of a sudden, my little truck disappeared. I was like.."where the hell did it go?" Went around the corner, and there was a drain there! Went into the house, got a coat hanger, and pulled it out! When I was fishing for it while laying on the ground, a lady that was driving by asked if I was ok. I said yeah, just getting my toy out of the drain. She really looked at me funny! When I pulled the truck out, she was like "oh, I have seen you out here before with a bigger one!" It was too embarrasing man!

phidailo 01.18.2007 02:15 PM

Thats hilarious

I didn't know how else to put it..."um, yeah, like, i'm getting my toy out of the drain lady, do you f'n mind?" LOL :005: :D "Drive on already would you? Don't cause a frickin scene!" I felt like an idiot!

Sorry for the hijack!

On top of that, is it a 2 or 2.3mm shaft?

jollyjumper 01.18.2007 05:42 PM

phidailo 01.19.2007 11:31 AM

I'm curious to how the lehner performs....let us know when you get it running

crazyjr 01.19.2007 06:46 PM

ok will do

You should give a 2 or 3s lipo....it really flies.

crazyjr 01.25.2007 09:45 PM

it was fast enough to get into trouble on the track on 6 cells NIMH

GorillaMaxx360 01.25.2007 11:16 PM

that is a pretty good camera phone. BTW nice quake.

crazyjr 01.25.2007 11:27 PM

yeah on both

crazyjr 01.27.2007 03:04 AM

I got the 1020 11 turn and waiting for the esc, hopefully test it next week.

on a side note, to anybody who wants to try this, you need a 1/8 shaft pinion for the motor and if you are playing with a Mini Quake you need a metric 48 pitch gear. Tower hobbies has a nice selection of metric pinions to choose from, I got evens from 12 tooth to 22 tooth to be sure i can gear it right

phidailo 01.27.2007 03:12 AM

great! what esc were you using before and which one are you getting?

crazyjr 01.27.2007 03:32 AM

I had a mamba 25 in it before but, it started to act up. Mike told me the mamba 25 could handle the Lehner without troubles so i'm going to try another. If it acts up i want to try a tekin, but love the computer programming on the mamba. For batteries I'm going to start with 1400 IB 6 cells and eventually go to a maxamps 2s 3300 and 3s 2200 packs

crazyjr 02.06.2007 10:28 PM

Well the lehner motor experiment is on hold, till i figure out a problem. It seems that either i have it geared wrong, bad reciever or the batteries are not up to snuff. it will go foreward but sort of like a creep till a certian point then it will wheelie like crazy, like the esc has a timer or something. My thoughts are, that its either the batteries are not strong enough for the lehner, the reciever is bad and can't handle the interference or its overgeared. If it was overgeared, it would be held back all the time (brushless doesn't have a powerband, does it). The reciever is a 75 mhz JR rs300 and i have had troubles with brushless and JR recievers, so i'm looking to change up recievers and see if that helps. I got a couple LIPO packs coming from maxamps(7.4 3300mah and 11.1 2200), so i will see if the batteries are the problem. Hpoefully i can figure this out and report back. BTW the lehner is a 1020 11turn with a KV of about 5400

neweuser 02.07.2007 10:48 AM

It doesn't sound liek a receiver problem to me Larry. Sounds more like a batt problem. My 18T did the same thing with the stock batt, put the lipo in there and it zooms.
I run all JR receivers by the way. An RS 310, RS 300 x2 and all are fine with my BL set ups. I also run a Novak synthesized in my Jato with my JR radio with no probs.

crazyjr 02.07.2007 06:46 PM

yeah i figured that much, but like to cover all the bases. I got some Lipo's coming

crazyjr 02.09.2007 05:42 PM

While waiting on the lipo's for the mini quake, I decided to experiment with my Polyquest 2s pack and see if it really was the batteries causing the problems. Long story short, the miniquake almost literally jumped out of my hand when i hit the throttle. Now i got to wait for the rain to clear up and the lipo's to come to test further, but so far, its NASTY

neweuser 02.09.2007 05:46 PM

And that's with the lehner right?

crazyjr 02.09.2007 09:40 PM

Yeah it is

Edit: packs came in today(saturday) and solved all the troubles, now it runs really good
