Bent BOTH X-Braces!?

I just noticed that BOTH X-Braces are bent!! I was installing the HV 4.5 Motor (had a 6.5 system) and my lower chassis plate/battery mount wouldn't lie flat. I bolted down the foward 4 screws and the rear was about a 1/4 inch a way. I took a look from the side and both were bent. :019:

80 bucks down the drain!!! GRR!!! :035:

Sylvester 01.16.2007 09:41 PM

Any pics? They shouldve lasted longer than what you've had them for!

Mike.L 01.16.2007 09:42 PM

LOL wow never in my time of having a g-maxx that i've bent the x-brace and yeahh i do want to see how bad it is.

Sylvester 01.16.2007 09:44 PM

Ive seen a couple people bend them, but thats after a hard crash or bash, Leroy bent one if i remember correctly.

crazyjr 01.16.2007 09:52 PM

only one i ever saw was Leroy's

Sylvester 01.16.2007 09:53 PM

I saw another 1 or 2 bend them at RCU forums.

Mike.L 01.16.2007 09:53 PM

BP is it bad?

BP-Revo 01.16.2007 10:03 PM

Its pretty bad...It bad enough that if I bolt down the lower battery plate with the forward screws, the plate is a 1/4 inch off from the brace.

I'll get a pic right now...

I haven't had any spectacular crashes...the worst I can think of is hitting something head on at ~10mph. However, I've crashed it way worse before and it was always ok (I've taken my lower plate off almost every time between track days, and it has always liined up perfect - until now.)

Sylvester 01.16.2007 10:05 PM

Maybe it was a bad batch? Oh well, one thing id love to see from gorillamaxx is chassis made of 7075 aluminum!

BP-Revo 01.16.2007 10:18 PM

Well...if it was a bad batch, how could I tell? Knowing George he'd replace them in an instant if it really was a bad batch.

I would have thought my Stock Revo equpiment (Arms, skid) would have broken well before the X-Braces would have bent...

The front of that is lined up with the front of the lower plate and the part of the front skid where it bolts to the X-Brace. You can see at about the third battery slot the chassis plate bends away (I have the plate bolted on, so it reflects the bend of the braces)

Sylvester 01.16.2007 10:21 PM

Hmm, that is very unlikely to happen. If i were you id take this up with George or Mike. Im sure you could work somthing out, The g-maxx chassis are suppose to last!

BP-Revo 01.16.2007 10:35 PM

How would I take it up with them? Any suggestions?

Sylvester 01.16.2007 10:41 PM

Explain to them what happened, and how it happened, of course with the pic you've shown us.. Im sure they can work a discount, and if they cant, like i say, tough luck! I know what it feels like to break somthing quick..

BP-Revo 01.16.2007 10:56 PM

Ok, I sent George an E-Mail. We'll see what happens. I don't think I will involve Mike, since it wouldn't be fair (since I didn't buy it from/through him). I know his service is of the best...but there are limits lol...

Yea...I remember you chipped the corner of your CF G2 right after you got it...

Mike.L 01.17.2007 09:33 AM

The pcture doesnt work for me...

What about this?

captain harlock 01.17.2007 10:08 AM

How about using double plates?

One CF and one Aluminum from down under.

Is it possible?

BP-Revo 01.17.2007 10:30 AM

No...the plate would not be flush with the from skid and would get caught on stuff.

Plus, I dont think it would help much. The lower part was just bent up, the upper part was pushed in (toward the tranny).

coolhandcountry 01.17.2007 12:56 PM

If you look in front of where the trans mounts.
It ussually bends right there. I have bent a few. If you bend it a .25mm every crash. How many does it take to bend it a 1/4in.

Procharged5.0 01.17.2007 02:45 PM

George will probably help you out somehow.

phildogg 01.17.2007 04:30 PM

bro that sucks..hopefully they will work something out with you..

:mad:1 Thats only 1 of the main reasons i ditched the maxx, over 30 or more reasons, but if i were to start all over, it would be alot different.

Bp ; let us know what George says.

Mike.L 01.17.2007 05:52 PM

thanks i see it now. Yea i'd like to know what george says on this one. Hey dom thats highly unlikely to chip a peice of carbon fiber like that.

Sylvester 01.17.2007 07:35 PM

It is/was to me ; heck i bent a g-maxx shocktower going down a dirt hill. Ugh, that felt like Cr@p.

BP-Revo 01.17.2007 09:00 PM

George said he'd replace them! Thats awesome. I knew he'd pull through.

He's also thinking of making even beefier ones too, and he said he could replace mine with those, so I would have to wait. I emailed him back asking him how long the wait was.

Bomb-Proof 01.17.2007 09:01 PM

just bend it back and let it roll....

BP-Revo 01.17.2007 10:46 PM

No...its not bent like that. Its totally warped...its not something you can bend back.

Plus, now that its bent, its probably weakened anyway.

neweuser 01.18.2007 11:33 AM

I think the one thing that is being missed here is HOW they got bent...but you can bend any piece of aluminum, but usually takes a pretty decent spill to bend the x braces IMO....ask Shayne, he knows how many trees I've plowed into, and have yet to bend one.

Bomb-Proof 01.18.2007 03:27 PM

you can bend it back. I have fixed much worse. Nothing to worry bout.

Procharged5.0 01.18.2007 03:32 PM

If you bend it back go slow and easy. 6061 will be more forgiving than 7075.

Bomb-Proof 01.18.2007 03:34 PM

yep.

Mike.L 01.18.2007 10:40 PM

so your going to get the beefier x-braces?

BP-Revo 01.19.2007 01:19 AM

Most likely.

General public release is March 1st I think he said. I may get them a week or two early, but not really. I'll make sure to let you guys know what happens.

Thanks BP Revo

Sylvester 01.19.2007 01:44 PM

I cant wait to see how George makes the new X-braces!

I think they will be something. Supposedly, he is to be making 3.3 gmaxx suspension too.

BP-Revo 01.19.2007 07:17 PM

He's also making a 3mm thick lower chassis place (to help with rigidity and strength). The stock is 2.5mm for reference.

He referred to it as "G3" so maybe he's actually making a G3/G3R kit?

anyway...he's going to replace my bent ones with the new stronger braces in a few weeks (he told me to email him then), then I'm going to spend the money (that was going to go to new braces) on thie thicker chassis plate. Then I should have a pretty sizeable increase in strength.
