Where to get a UBEC
Mike is out of stock. Is there anywhere else that sells these?
|
If you can wait a couple weeks for something good and use a receiver pack until then, it might be worth the wait.

here you go http://www.koolflightsystems.com/ultimatebec.htm
|
I've seen a "DBEC" or Digital Battery Eliminator Circuit but can't remember where I saw it. It was very small. Like half the size of the UBEC.
|
Here perhaps, Hank?
http://www.quarkbrushless.com/pro_acc.htm All the good BEC systems are 'digital' the Ubec is using the very same principle. It's a switching voltage regulator. This one just has got a small footprint. |
I nabbed one of these the other day:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=200071683316 Got a message from them just after midnight indicating it had been shipped, and included the tracking number. They ship via china post, air parcel. So far, so good. We'll see how well it works. For the price, it was worth a gamble. Sleebus |

Serum...as usual...U THE MAN! Thanks, it was driving me nuts. Funny it was a Quark item. Only flaw I see in it is that it's fullt exposed, otherwise it seems nice.
Sleebus.....I hope it works out for you. Some of those Chineese Specials are a great deal and some do not even make a good paperweight. |
I am sitting behind same problem try to find good and cheap UBEC's
http://home.comcast.net/~truerc/esc/escNmotor.htm If you scroll down yow will see three UBEC's with price aup to $15 Wich one to choose? 3A Ultra BEC Board -exactly same Bec as in ebay link -$12 3A Dynam Ultra BEC Board -$15 3A ASSAN Ultra BEC Board -$10 which one to choose? |
that is the same UBEC that I have been running for some time now, & I have never had a problem with it....
|
Glad I spent $37 for the UBEC with Mike earlier this week!
:019: I had no idea the cheapies were any good. :026: |
integy has a adjustable low voltage alarm, good for lipos, and has adjustable output votage to servo 4.8v-7v.

I think I know what's up too... hee hee |
Ok guys thats it. Tell us whats going on already.
|
It's not nice to hold out on an RC-M brother! Know what I mean?
|
LOL
Slip me a PM. No one here would notice lol..... J/K guys. |

Nice find. The "3A Ultra BEC Board -exactly same Bec as in ebay link $12" looks like the only real choice. The other 2 are Max Input V: 12V ( 3 cells Lipo or 10 Cell). The other one has Max Input V: 35V (8 cells Lipo or 24 Cell Ni-Mh cells) I'm thinking I'll order 2 of these since they are so cheap. |
Can't. It's secret :). Hey glassdoc, if you look on the list, mine starts with tc and my first name is Travis. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about :).
|
Can you say !@#$!@#%!? oops...
TC, will we get kicked out of here for such behaviour? lol |
Back on topic, I have UBECs from rcmonster, truerc, and an overseas place I can't remember.... the truerc ones were only like 12 bucks or so and work fine.
|
On topic...well sort of..........
How much current does a UBEC need to supply for a hi-torque servo (steering) and a Mamba Max ESC? Not many servos list current draw. The Mamba Max manual does not list a requirement either. Mike sent me a BEC from Dimension Engineering and its rated for 1.25A Continuous or 1.5A 60-second peak. Acceptable or not???? |
I have this information on my calculations page (in BEC & Wiring):
I hooked up a Hitec HS-5945MG steering servo (180oz-in torque and 0.13 sec speed at 6v) to a Spektrum DX3 receiver and measured the current at 6v under typical use:
|
It does.
I have a Futaba 3-Ch receiver. Don't recall the model number but receivers don't draw much current by themselves. I have a 5945MG and a Mamba Max ESC. I think the BEC Mike sent me has too little current capacity. This one has half that of the UBEC. I give Mike a call. Thanks Brian. |
It might work. The peaks were at 2.4A, but the average was at 0.6A. If you use a capacitor on the UBEC, it will really help absorb some of those current transients. A value from 1,000uF to 4,700uF should do nicely. The majority of the current draw is when steering under heavy load. To do this, I had the truck sitting motionless and then manually held the tires somewhat firmly.
|
I sent Mike an email. I'll see what he says...if he'll guarantee it I'll give it a shot.
|
The MM doesn't need a UBEC because it's powered by the battery it's plugged into. :)
As for the 1.25A cont 1.5A peak, I don't think that's enough. If the servo he described was drawing 2A+, then you are going to see slower/weaker response from that servo. IMHO, I'd look for something with more oooooomph. Sleeb |
I talked with Mike. It's been resolved quickly and to my TOTAL satisfaction. (Is there any surprise? LOL)
