My New Ride
Hey guys! I went to the indoor races at my LHS and it was really cool all they race is 1/18 scale and it is on a small foam track. Even though outside racing is way better i like the indoor racing because it gives you something to race in the winter. Also since all they race is 1/18 everything is cheap to buy, build, fix, and race. While i was there the coolest cars i saw where the xrays (m18) they were incredibly fast and cool and they are small and fairly cheap and of course they are good quality. So i was on a mission to get one of these. It seemed kind of hopeless because i was broke but i was so determined i managed to get one buy selling stuff i did not need (aluminum mini t parts like arms and such in return for plastic parts) and well i got one. Anyway enough of that info now to the real stuff. The car here cost me 106 bucks flat. I used my mini t electronics and the xray kit and that was it. SO that is why on in the car you see a mini t battery. Electronics include LRP micro reverse ESC, JR Reviver, mini t 6 cell battery (it fits fine and works better than the 5 cell that it is made to handle), and a hitec servo. But the most embracing thing about the car (don't laugh) is the motor yes it is a stock mini t motor. Now i know this sounds bad but since the gear ratio is smaller and the car is lower lighter and such this mini t motor pushes this thing to a 18mph and that is plenty enough for a 10ft by 10ft track. But i will be upgrading to a cobalt 14t and from doing 18 to about 45 mph way to fast but cool. Anyway heres the pics and there are a lot of them but i like pictures. (also this has to be one of the best investments i made i highly recommend this car it is so reliable, adjustable, cool, and it works great)(body is painted buy me it is the first paint job i have done in about 1 year and it is orange because that was the only color i had) (note camera is capable of taking better pics so sorry for the badness)

VERY nice! I might get a x18, maybe a mini-z for racing in my basement. Loving the ferrari body on it! :)
|
That thing looks so much fun. I actually have a rc18 with a mamba and it is so much fun. You can drive it anywhere, it is practically indestrctable, and you dont need to go anywhere to drive it.
Have fun with your new rc. |
Awesome M18 you got there.. hehe
|
Nice! What LHS do you race at???
|
cool car man! i wish there was some carpet racing here... ive been wanting a scalpel!

my buddy has a scalpel and its is SOOOO NICE!!! but he dosnt run it much because we have no track, well we do for 12 scale, and 10 scale on roads so he cant race but its still really cool
but sick m18!! why dont u go bl? |
thats pritty sweet...im building a cottage up north and we are going to have very smooth basement and a jugantic dirt hill in the back.
the things you can do with a huge dirt hill in the back! |
Sounds like you'll be "rippin it up"!
|

thanks guys for the complements i really can wait to race it man this thing flys with a super slow motor i cant wait till i get my mod motor this thing will easly do over 35 on a small track that is crazy but if i get good enough i can use the acceleration to my advantage and the speed at straight runs. Cant wait. You like the body huh it my first paint job in a bout a year. A actually took the stickers of (body decals) off becuase they were pealing off and the widow decals had a hazy apperance to them and i did not like that so i removed them (funny it is a m18 and i have gmaxx stickers -looks good though-) Thanks guys really
|
That thing with a BL/Lipo would fly! :D
Cool M18, have fun! |
i heard (this is crazy and suicide for the car) putting a c4 which is 9200kv and a 2s lipo in one of these that has to do easly over 85mph at those speeds liftof is possable.
|
Even at 60mph, a car so small would lift off the ground. My rc18 almost floats on the ground at even about 45mph, lol.

BJE,
Welcome to the RC-M forums! Gorillamaxx 360, I've been there before. Do they have an outside track yet or just inside? Dirt track??? Maybe one day we'll race there and then grab some wings over at Hooters (Rt. 14 & 31) What do you think? |
they use the parking lot as a track and they put down pvc piping in the summer and in the winter the just take out the back of the shelves in the store and assyembl a foam Puzzle peice type track.

UPdate
Update -A little late but i got busy this week- SORRY anyway took this baby to the race last week and i raced it. First round out of 3 i did OK and i got discouraged because i thought racing would be about as easy as it looked.(this was my first race except for a mini t race in the summer but i don't consider that a race). Second round i got better but i could not control my car. Sean Store owner and Battery Dude former losi racer and good guy, both noticed that my car was driving bad and they said i needed foam tires and tire compound. At this time i could not afford the because i had just enough to buy the kit and rig so mini t electronics in there. So 3 race was coming up and a nice man in the pit area let me borrow some foams and battery dude let me borrow some compound. Man what a difference i made about a 15 lap difference in a 5min race and i griped so will my mini t motor kept up with the reedys and bajas (even though they were half throttle and i was full and they were evenly matched if there not going to use the other half of the throttle what is the point). So at the end of the week i learned a lot of lessons. First biggest mistake i made my pretty body (hate to say this makes me sound stupid but) i painted with krylon paint now i knew there was a special paint for lexan but i was poor at the time so i though some krylon paint i had laying around would work. NO it did not by the end of the night half the paint was on the car and the other paint chipped and fell of on the track so after race i vacuumed the track because i left so much paint behind i felt so stupid. Lesson number 2 a set of foam tires can make your lap times almost double and make you go from looking like a noob to a semi experience driver. Lesson number 3 no matter how cool the micro lrp speedo looks it is not as good as the spy because it has a 5 second reverse delay and reverse is as about 1/5 the forward speed. and with lap times in the upper 5 seconds a slow reverse can double lap times. And i learned many other small lessons about how to get there super early to get practice laps in and get a good pit area. So last week was OK But this week i have got a new body painted with RC paint from my LHS. I am going to buy foams compound and a either mamba 4200 with quark or a spy speed control and a aluminum motor mount for less flex as the plastic one has lots of flex. I sold my LRP and i am selling my unused EVX so i will buy that stuff tomorrow it will be fun but i am glad i learned my lessons last week. I don't enjoy screwing up but man now that i know my mistakes i can fix them and i am good to roll. that is it Kind of long though.
Will have my new pics of my body up later. (also built my brother his new vehicle for his birthday and painted the body and it looks killer and i mean cool definatly the coolest paint job i have ever done BTW it is an rc 18t) -pics later- |
nooo pics now! :D

My Bros that i painted
It is a Candy red with black under it gives it a bunch of different looks in different light like red, brown, orange, gold, but mostly it is a matalic rust color it looks better in real life camera can take better pics(not just saying this it really can). http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010004.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010006.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010007.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010009.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010012.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010019.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010020.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010021.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...P1010023-2.jpg |
My x ray bodies the black is the restored origional the red is the new and all the stickers are there to cover over spray that got onto the windows during paint.
This is a candy red also but it has a sliver under lay. the black body is the old orange body. I sanded the old orange one down and painted it with satin black Krylon Fusion Plastic paint on the outside of the body. I know two big no no's krylon paint and painting it on the outside. But this body was beyone repair so if it fails no harm done but i have faith in the paint beacuase it if fleable paint and it is made for plastic and i gave the body a twist and no paint chiped. also the paint seems to work surprisingly well on the outside even though i will never paint abody on the outside. the reason for doing so was when i sanding it it foged up and painting it on the inside would not work so maby it will work i will keep you updated just thought the black body was worth a try beacuse it was trash anyway(let's call it an experiment) http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...P1010004-1.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...P1010006-1.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...P1010011-1.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...P1010012-2.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010005.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/P1010013.jpg |
NICE!!!!! i LOVE that parma body!!!!!!!!!!!! those fit mini t's rite?
and nice m18, u did the fenders much better on the mazda |
yeah i know i did the finders better it was the second body and the xray bodys have to small fenders anyway so i just kept cutting away. It is not very easy though. i wish they made a tool to cut perfectly round wheel holes with prefectly smooth. practice makes perfect got better the second time around. Thanks.
|
not sure if that exact one fits a mini t but i am 90% sure they either make the same body for a mini t or that one will fit becuase i do remember if i am not mistaken seeing that body when i went to look at bodys for my mini t Sorry i was mistaken they do not make that body for a mini t heres one that is close to it though. If not you could probably make the other one fit
|
i know theres a body just like it from trinity called the nitro beer wagen but i like that one more, when one18th gets back up i will post a new thread.. but i think it will fit
|
Very cool lookign bodies. I love that 1st body you painted candy red. Good luck in your next race.
|
Got back from the races today i learned a lot more. i got there and sold my old evx and titan motors for 50bucks and i got a reedy 19t and a spy speedo for my xray. I installed it at the race i mised the first 2 races installing and testing the stuff and i raced half of the third casue my battery was half dead from testing. But i learned a lot again an i hope to do much better next week becuase i now have all the bugs worked out.
|
cool man!good luck and i hope u do good!!! i want to race but i dont have the money lol i can only race 10th scale onroad and i dont have any of that stuff
|
Its great that everything worked out for you.
Good luck racing. Try to get soem pics of the track, or better yet, a video of you racing. :027: |
