fun bl mt-2 project

hey guys my freind gave me an mt-2 chassis for free and i was thinking of putting my bl setup in there for just the fun of it. i probably wouldnt keep it in there forevr unless it works super awsome but i was just wondering how different it would drive compared to my rusty..

does the mt-2 have a 2 speed tranny? will it work with electric? is there anything i would have to go about doing before making it bl? or can i just throw on the motor and esc and have some fun?!?!

i dont really know how im going to mount the motor... seems like a kind of difficult project but other than that it should be pretty simple.

will get some pics of it later tonight.

thanks!

if you do a search here on the forum for it i'm sure you'll find loads of converted ones.:027:

t-maxxracer32 02.12.2007 08:53 AM

so i found one conversion. i have the same truck so it is kinda cool looking at what minewill be somewhat!! now where do i go about getting the motor mount like this guy does... heres the link

scroll down to see pics of it
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...highlight=mt-2

thanks!

jollyjumper 02.12.2007 09:03 AM

you mean the little piece of L-profile?
get a piece at the hardware store or so.
but, first you must take measurement of the truck, to see wath size you need.
the motormount in my truck (twin force) is also an angle and its 3mm thick alu.
i believe the foot is 30mm and where the motor's mount is 40mm high.

t-maxxracer32 02.12.2007 09:10 AM

well if its not the right size i can grind it down. i have the equipment to do that i just cant bend the metal like that. i will check out a couple places today to see what they have

thanks!

t-maxxracer32 02.12.2007 09:18 AM

just got done taking a detailed look at it and im missing the front drive cup lol didnt know it was a 4wd truck... also its missing a shock and some random no big deal parts but right now im looking on ebay for the part so maybe i can get this truck running in a couple weeks!!

do you guys think the truck would me nicer than my rusty? i mean is it worth putting the 100 bucks into it (im guessing everything will cost around 100...)

this is it right?

jollyjumper 02.12.2007 10:01 AM

huh, you're missing a diff on it?
if so that's gotta be it (the ebay link).

t-maxxracer32 02.12.2007 10:12 AM

well my ffreind gave it to me for free!

beggers cant be choosers!!!

ive always wanted to say that but never found the right moment!! WOOT WOOT!

jollyjumper 02.12.2007 10:20 AM

hahaha, it came with only one diff.:D
that's crazy, how the **** did he drive it then?;)

t-maxxracer32 02.12.2007 10:27 AM

long line of decendants have owned this truck. my freinds freinds freind owned it then broke the engine so gave it to my freinds freind. he bought a new motor for it and didnt properly break it in. then he gave it to my freind who took the motor out and let it sit in the garage for a year or so. then he gave it to me! lol somewhere down the line it lost some parts on it!! haha!

jollyjumper 02.12.2007 10:32 AM

poor nmt.
hey, good luck gettin it back together!;)

t-maxxracer32 02.12.2007 11:13 AM

yup yup... gotsa new home now!! give it a month and this project will be complete!! (i have to order all the missing parts and im sure i will order one thing and then realize i need another a week later...)

I have no idea, but a guess would be 6lbs., and heavier than the nitro version. It has 4s2p A123 cells, Feigao 8L, Mamba Max.

nieles 02.12.2007 03:46 PM

okay thanks

BlackedOutREVO 02.12.2007 04:09 PM

Mike.L 02.12.2007 06:05 PM

im going to re-designe my RS4 mt the discontinued one. make it a racer, all ready have plans for placement for everything and just need a new re designed motor mount.

you guys think that if i ran race tires and sutch body ect... would i have a chance to beat some t4's and MF2's? hey remember there 2wd im 4wd. (6cells)...Nice bowties?

hope i didnt kill the thread:p

Sylvester 02.12.2007 06:07 PM

Mike.. i personally think the T4's will be very hard to beat.. we will have to see how it handles.

Mike.L 02.12.2007 06:12 PM

it handles great and i run cheap servos;) hehehe and im planning on a nice high torque servo..

Sylvester 02.12.2007 06:14 PM

Servo's arent gonna get you the win either way. I am not trying to protrude, but i just think the T4s and XXXT's and MF2's will have a better chance of winning.

t-maxxracer32 02.12.2007 07:11 PM

well i think it will be awsome to have a 4wd stadium truck because i love the rusty and all but it would be AWSOME 4wd.

plus i never race my rusty because it always spins out (too much torque and 2wd... not a good combination...) now that it will be a 4wd mt-2 it will be SWEET!! i hope lol...

going to try and order parts tonight!

bdebde 02.13.2007 02:12 AM

My MT2 outruns everything at my local track. Track owner's jaw drops every time I run it.

t-maxxracer32 02.13.2007 09:24 AM

where did you get the upper deck and all those carbon fiber parts? that thing is very nice looking!! hope mine can look close to that!

bdebde 02.13.2007 10:42 AM

It is the HPI carbon fiber upper deck.

t-maxxracer32 02.13.2007 12:30 PM

oo alrigth cool thx!! ill save that to later when i upgrade it!

any other upgrades you think are worth the money?

thx!

bdebde 02.13.2007 04:25 PM

I started with the 18SS, so it has the beefier drivetrain and diffs. I would get those as soon as you tear up the stock ones (if not 18SS already).

Mike.L 02.13.2007 05:57 PM

I wouldnt be surprised if i took them down the mt and mt2 arent that old. And plus a race servo and tires ect, wold definatly help.

t-maxxracer32 02.13.2007 06:16 PM

so would that upper brace and stuff work for my mt-2? the regular one? how do you know if you have the ss caue i might i just dont know

thanks!

Sylvester 02.13.2007 09:19 PM

The upper brace would work on the MT-2.

Sylvester 02.13.2007 09:21 PM

For some dumb reason i cant edit my post above, but ill just tell you this t-maxxracer... read the product description next time! "QUOTE" REQUIRES: MT 2
"UNQUOTE" If you check on the same link it shows what it will work with :p

bdebde 02.13.2007 11:01 PM

Yep, The upper deck fits MT2; RTR or 18SS. Easiest way to tell if you have 18SS; look and see if there are purple collars on chrome CVD's (unless they were changed out). Also, all the drive cups are beefier, and it has stainless steel turnbuckles instead of the one piece (non-adjustable) plastic ones.

t-maxxracer32 02.14.2007 12:14 AM

lol well i wasnt sure if the 18ss was any diff.

but thanks though!!
