I need one final project...

Well,

I wanted to get another B4 and use 4s 4900mah flightpowers with a 1930/5.
But then I figured out that it's only gonna be speed with no control and lots of trouble.

Then, I thought I should get a highend touring sedan and put in a TrakPower with a 1920/4, but then I thought I can just put that setup in my old touring car since I really don't race.

Then I thought that I can modify my current rc10l3 with 6s and a 14 turn 1920 for CRAAAZY speeds, but then I figured out that most streets are full of bumps and small stones that would cripple the thing from performing to it's optimum level.

Then I thought about a 1/8 onroad machine like a Mugen MRX or Kyosho Evolva and convert it to brushless, but that is gonna be as troublesome as the 1/10th small brothers.

So, what do you guys recommend for a tough faaast, stable rig?

I think a highend 4wd 1/10 buggy like the Tamiya TRF501X or the Yokomo MR4-BX would be nice, but both uses 3x3 pack configuration and it would make it impossible to use normal lipo packs. They're belt driven, which makes it even worse.

Serum 02.25.2007 11:12 AM

answer is quite simple..

Serpent, or an evolva. i don't see why it would be trouble like a 1/10th. they are made for speeds, and stick to the road like gum.. (only 60mph gum)

captain harlock 02.25.2007 11:15 AM

I thought you're gonna recommend a 1/8 buggy. And this is what I'm really pointing at.

But, which are the best overall? disregarding the price.

Serum 02.25.2007 11:28 AM

I was just looking at a losi 8ight 8t.. (the truggy) that's awesome.

jollyjumper 02.25.2007 11:32 AM

i'd say go for a truggy, moogen or so:p

captain harlock 02.25.2007 12:20 PM

I already have a supermaxx and it's almost like a truggy( the only differences are the diffs( truggies' diffs are tougher) and sway bars).
Buggies( 1/10th electric) have always been my favourite, but their designs are not as good as they were in the past.
I want to try 1/8 buggies since I can use very big motors in them with lots of lipos without sacrificing handling.

I think Mugen, Kyosho, Losi, Associated, Ofna and O'Donnel have the best overall.

I like Japanese designs, though. I'll skip Losi, O'Donnel, OFNA and AE. Only Kyosho and Mugen are left.....

You guys know of other companies who have some great buggies?

So sorry for being a bit intricate.

jollyjumper 02.25.2007 12:23 PM

i'd think the mugen is the better of the two.

Mike.L 02.25.2007 12:47 PM

I would do what jollyjumper says! that would be fun!

hey man you stole my avitar!:p

squeeforever 02.25.2007 02:34 PM

Personally, I think the best buggy is probably the Team Magic M1. I don't know about converting one though...The next best thing is definately the Mugen Seiki MBX5 Pro Spec.

BP-Revo 02.25.2007 02:38 PM

Why not the new HotBodies 4wd 1/10 ST? That sounds like it would be an awesome project. It handles well and all, its 4wd so its controllable, and its not small enough to be affect by bumps too much. You can even drive it on road.

the HB 1/10 buggy 4wd seems to have a miniture center diff.

squeeforever 02.25.2007 04:59 PM

Yea, I believe the ST has a center slipper and they put a center diff in the buggy.

Mike.L 02.25.2007 05:43 PM

by anychance can it use a kyosho spure?(nylon)? the buggy one?

squeeforever 02.25.2007 06:42 PM

Not sure to be honest...

captain harlock 02.26.2007 09:43 AM

HB is a branch of HPI and for as far as I know, most of their products are made in Taiwan, right?

Also, what is the maxximum number of lipo cells the chassis of the ST can hold?

tallyram 02.26.2007 10:36 AM

if you want an awesome buggy look at the xray xb8tq or the brand new xb8ec! i bought a tq about a month and a half ago and its so purdy and it drives great. tons of 7075 aluminum, matches my king headz saturated jammin crt.

captain harlock 02.26.2007 10:50 AM

Yeah, I've also thought about the XRay, too.
Thanks, Tallyram.

Dafni 02.26.2007 12:11 PM

I just assembled a new XB8TQ. Those things are awesome.

captain harlock 02.26.2007 06:24 PM

Hey Dan, BTW, is the radio gear made of carbon fiber or 7075 aluminum?
Did you convert it to brushless, yet?
What setup are you gonna use?

I'm seriously considering either a XB8TQ or a Mugen MBX5-R.

For now, I've decided on the following setup:
- LMT 1940/9
- 8s FlightPower 4900mah packs.
- Mamba Monster Max HV

Unless this setup is a bit too much for the buggy, I cant think of somthing else.

Sylvester 02.26.2007 06:38 PM

8s is alot in a buggy. I wouldnt put more than 6s, since buggies are usually under 10lbs they should fly with 6s, 8s will be TOO much for it imo.

There is to some extent, but i just think Captn' will be happier with 6s, same goes for his wallet! :)

bdebde 02.27.2007 03:13 AM

KYOSHO LANDMAX; half 1/8th buggy, half touring rally car.

jollyjumper 02.27.2007 03:24 AM

why not a rally game car?:D

overtki11 02.27.2007 05:27 AM

my humble suggestion...

twin tranny, twin BL'd, quad axled, eight wheel monster! all held together with a tube chassis!

captain harlock 02.27.2007 09:30 PM

Nay..I only need an easy to build up project without loads of custom parts.
The 1/8th buggies will surely need some custom parts, but not thaaaaat much.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, though.

oh...ok cool....

i'm gonna work on a 1/8 buggy project too .............soon.. well, based on a 1/8 buggy anywez...haha.

once my txt is done...

captain harlock 03.30.2007 04:23 PM

Someone knows if Mike has a plan to make a motormount for the Mugen MBX-5 buggies?

jollyjumper 03.30.2007 04:29 PM

hotbodies one, that will fit. do need hb or kyosho entire diff.

hemicuda11 03.30.2007 05:01 PM

I think an hpi baja 5b buggy would rule the earth. Problem is a motor and batteries to match the 1/5 scale. But we are disregarding price.

Sylvester 03.30.2007 05:14 PM

That problem wouldnt really be a problem, Id do 8s 5000 flightpowers, 3080 motor, and a MMM :)

captain harlock 03.30.2007 05:22 PM

Yeah, but you know, I've already decided to pick up a MBX-5R with 6s 4900mah Evo20, probably a Kontronik FUN600-17 motor( quite cheap and effecient with pure German quality) and my 149.18 controller.

Aragon 03.30.2007 07:34 PM

Hey, I also think a brushless Baja would absolutely rock. :) Maybe one day I'll be crazy enough to tackle it!

A4DTM 03.30.2007 07:34 PM

just for the record, I havn't had any problems with my 1/8 onroad, a PowerRacingProducts XR8.. 1215 2.5d on 5s, and it seems to like 55mph with my current gearing.. fairly easy project, except for the battery trays, but mike could probably make one for you.. but you've already decided, so good luck lol
