4S Trakpower or Maxamps for 8XL/MM Combo?
 

I'm trying to decide which batteries I'd like to use for my BL E-Maxx and my BL LSP-R. I'm planning to run 4S in both of them and will likely be running an 8XL in each of them as well. Without figuring in cost, what do you think will be the better packs to use, Trakpowers or Maxamps 6000/8000mAh packs?

I'd go for the MaxAmps. Trackpowers have great current ratings and all, but the 8XL shouldn't draw enough to make a huge difference, if any at all. On top of that, you get more mah for the buck.

Trakpower all the way. No doubt. They cost about the same and have got the power that's needed for the 8XL.

Trakpower, without thinking twice. Or any other Flightpower pack that suits your needs.

Will a 4900 trakpower 2s really give more "power" than a 8000 maxamps 2s? Is the voltage drop less on the trakpowers, do they handle more current draw? What "specs" are important when choosing batteries?

All of the people who have recommended the TrakPower are talking out of experience, so you really don't need to go for the MaxAmps when you have something as affordable and much better. I bought a pair of 3s 3700mah FlightPowers for my SuperMaxx and the truck is DANCING!!!

Another vote for Trackpower, just amazing power and consistency.

I don't know anything about the trakpower packs, but I do have a couple of the maxamps 6Ah 4S packs. We ran them in a converted Losi 8ight that had a Feigao 8XL with a MM ESC geared 16/46, and when my buddy got really aggressive with running the buggy, the batteries got HOT. Over 150F. I don't know how much current was moving, but the batts couldn't keep up. I also run the 6Ah 4S packs in my buggy with the 7XL geared 14/46, but I've never heated the batts up like that. On the other hand, I don't dog my buggy like he does.

the 6K maxamps packs are capable of very short 110A spikes. (.05-.1 second) after .2 seconds on 110A, and going to 90-100A they drop below 2.9V per cell

I ordered 3 packs and 2 of the balancers. It was news to me to find out that they have a specific balancer for the Trakpower packs that comes with the necessary harness adapter...and it's cheaper too...$44.95 versus $49.95 + $6.95.

Lucky! I cant wait to order my Trackpower/evo packs!

good info to know. I hope there new 5k packs perform better. If they do I will pick one up and just use the 5s 6000mah pack for practice.

I have to say, while I've been using LiPo for two seasons, there are lots I don't understand. I'm very surprised so many of you are saying the Trackpower packs over the MaxAmps...why? Is there some technical reason I'm not seeing? Oddly I've been using FMA 3200MAh Scorpions running in a 4s Config and while they are small, they always fed my brushless monster just fine - although after about 6mins they were spent. LVC would trip. This year I'm looking at getting some new packs as well and I had been eyeballing those new 5K packs from Maxamps....is that a mistake? Why?

We don't yet have any data on the Maxamps 5000mah packs. Some, including myself, will be receiving these packs to run with our brushless setups. I just hope we won't be disappointed!

The reason for people choosing flightpowers over maxamps is that the flightpowers are better in ballance (they are matched) and they deliver a higher voltage on a higher load.

(the maxamps 6K drops bellow 2.8-2.9V on a 1 second 110A load, while the enerland/flightpower 5k packs stay at 3.6V on a 110A load.)

The flightpowers are capable of delivering the current, while the maxamps aren't.

I am curious what the new maxamps 5k cells will do. I would love to see some graphs.

I wonder if the FlightPower/TrakPower/Enerland's are better than 8K's when subjected to 100Amps Constant. The 8K's are rated for 160 constant while the TrakPowers are rated for 100Amps constant.

Logic here would point to the 8K's holding voltage better, no matter how good enerland cells are.

If I recall correctly, the MaxAmps 3K cells are of lower quality than the 4K cells.

The graphs i've seen on 8K packs is that they drop bellow 3.1 V or such on a 120A load. check Promods 50mph with a twinforce thread. so yes, trackpower/enerlands are better in 5K than maxamps 8K.

I wonder how enerland cells would do in a 2P combination. There'd practically be no voltage drop!

Yes I'm surprised it took so long to come up. I also have some 5000HV copper tab packs coming. One thing I don't understand though. On trakpowers site it says "Fast charge rate 10 Amp (Max 2.5C with balancing charger)". Can the TrakPowers really be charged safely at 10amp? Sounds scary. You have to hand it too them on the hard shell case.

I drive 2P Flightpower packs on one of my Revos, and had a 2P setup on my MBX5 just the other day. Then you see what Brushless motors can really do. They give me the most amazing runtimes too.

Yeah, i was impressed with the runtime Dafni got from his Revo with the 5S2P packs, back at home they only took like 3800mAh IIRC.. if a pack drops under load, it kills the amount of energy.
