programming bk 12020 controller
i am having trouble programming a bk 12020 controller and wanderer 7xl.
using 2x 7.4v 8000 lipos, deans plugs, and ubec. have followed mike's instructions and the included instructions. servo works as well as cooling fan but controller does not beep or respond at all, i think it beeped once though. any help would be appreciated. thanks |
Did you remove the jumper before you plugged in the battery? If not it will only beep once to tell you the motor has changed direction. Also, have you removed the BEC jumper?
|
if by jumper you mean the red and black wire form the receiver plug then yes.
|
No, the programming jumper is put underneath the heatshrink. Close to the capacitors. There are two jumpers; one for the BEC and one for programming.
Any change you have got the throttle on reverse? A beep is an obvious, rather annoying sound, coming from the motor. (it is more annoying when it doesn't beep at all though, i must admit.. :) |
i have found the bridges and removed them, but still no beeps.
radio on (futaba 2pl) both bridges removed plug in batteries wait 5s nothing servo works throttle channel reverse and normal attempted is this thing damaged as i have never used it before and it is brand new. very frustrated, missing a race day because of this have to run to work for an hour to shut some stuff off, check post in about an hour thanks again |
Check if your transmitters throttle channel is at 0 percent, and 100 percent EPA
|
I had the same exact problem..
Found out it was how my transmitter. It was not set-up. I love my BK12020 esc.. It will be all worth it once you get it set-up. |
If not check your crystals...your frequency..
|
hope this helps...
|
the throttle is set to 0, EPA fwd/brk 100%, found the bridges and removed both, servo reversing is normal, fully charged packs,...????
as far as crystals go the servo works fine .... will test receiver with another car... thanks for the help |
if you have another receiver/transmitter, try them..
|
i have tried everything, maybe the controller isn't reading the motor? i have 5.5 plugs attached - one wire soldered inside and the other soldered to the outside. double wires soldered to the deans plugs and a double wire soldered across the deans plugs. every once and awhile in my attampts the motor beeped and then stopped.
checked crystals used different radios and receivers - all the same result- i bought this sytem about 6 months ago and haven't had the time to set it up until now, due to a back injury. romster, what were your specific problems? thanks again for all the help you all have given |
Same thing, beeps then goes. Hmmmm.....Hmmmmm.........
-Ok did you check the mesh on pinion and spur gear. -Make sure the servo wires are correct order on receiver example (white-red -black) Ok if not try the transmitter see if it's on reverse setting. Let me no or try to get a picture of your set-up in buggy or truck. Maybe I could see what's the problem. I will compare it to my set-up. I am looking at my buggy right now trying to figure out why yours is not working.. |
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but doesn't the throttle channel on Futaba radios need to be reversed?
|
I think I had to reverse thottle on my JR radio to get my 9920 to recognize.
pinolelst |
All I know is that both my son's Stampede, which included a Futaba radio, and the Photon (I think it uses a Futaba-based radio although it doesn't say it) both needed to be reversed.

hello,
i have tried to do what everyone has recommended with no results. my digital camera is down so i will describe my set-up. - double battery positive wires soldered to a deans plug's positive - double battery negative wires soldered to another deans plug's negative - double wire bridge from the positive of one plug to the negative of the other - all shrink wrapped - using 2 x 7.4v 8000mah lipos double motor wires: - 5.5 plugs - one lead soldered into the plug - second wire soldered to outside of the plug and shrink wrapped - connected to motor - UBEC positive soldered to positive lead and negative solderd to the negative lead - both bridges removed futaba 2pl radio with throttle channel reverse - i beleive the controller can't find neutral on the radio and cannot get it to recognize either the motor or radio. endpoints are at 100% and trim is at 0. tried an associated xp radio system with no results - will be trying a jr system tonight or tomorrow. really confused - i everything seems to be solid and done correctly. thank you for all the help jim |

Yes, if this is the case, the controller doesn't know it has a signal.
|
the leads are all in the receiver plug. i pulled the jumpers out of the esc under the shrink wrap. i can't even get the darn thing to beep at all.
thanks jim |
All you can do now is try another receiver/transmitter and please let us know how it goes.
|
thanks will be trying it tonight
|
It may sound stupid(and I know you aren't a rookie), but make sure the rx lead is properly oriented in the receiver(though with Futaba style plugs you really can't screw it up, the warrior has a generic style "fit anywhere" plug). You may have to try the reversing of the throttle channel as well.
|
on the receiver plug for the controller, which color is positive, which is negative and which is signal? i just want to check as my friend is bringing over his m8 and jr radios to test.
thank you for all the help jim |
brown = -
red = + orange= signal |
last night used a jr synthesized radio and a m8 and the damn thing wouldn't program. just used the ubec and the mamba maxx controller i had for a gt2 conversion i started. i tried to hook up the mamba maxx 5700 motor to the esc, resoldered all the connections and tried with every radio i could find and not response. what should i do with this expensive and useless piece of electronics smash it? send it back and wait forever to get it back?
any comments would be appreciated. thanks to all that have given me help |
can you post a photo of the wires?
maybe there is something wrong, but probably not. |
Strodedaug,
Don't SMASH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just wondering is the BK 12020 esc bought new or used? Can you try to get some pics. I just want to see your set up so I could see the problem. |
yes the controller is new, i will take pics on sunday after racing.
thanks again |
that's more than odd; two controllers in a row that don't programm on your gear. Can you please follow Nieles' advice on the pics?
|
one thing that help me, I also had to set the throttle to reverse but I noticed I had to put the red jumper back on, plug in the battery, and test. each time it failed, (I tried a few different things) and start over.
Also, maybe remove the BEC from the install, again, I found that I had to put the red jumper back on, with the battery on, before doing the next test. It seems that when it fails, if you don't reset it by putting the red jumper on you get stuck in a failed state. |
