I guess Novak's HV series is a very good setup for you.

Also, get a Feigao or Wanderer L can( 7-8 turns) with a 7020 esc.

Price should not go over $300 in the worst case senario.

Nah, I wouldn't recommend either of those...Go with the Mamba Max ESC and a Feigao 7XL motor. Should be good on 14 cells...

2nd'. A 8XL could also work if you are not looking for super fast and want to run 14 cells. W/ 12 a 7XL would be better.

captain harlock 03.20.2007 04:25 PM

I recommend the Novak, really. He's only going to take down his friends rusty which only has a normal brushed motor. Nothing serious...:)

squeeforever 03.20.2007 04:38 PM

Keep in mind that the XL5 Rusty's run 35mph stock...

captain harlock 03.20.2007 04:45 PM

Okay!..:)

..10 secs before they melt the Titan, from what I've heard. I think that speed is based on 8 cells and that obscenely large extra pinion they provide. My impression from the TRX forums is that people are smoking them fairly quickly doing that. Usable speeds are more ~30. Eh, otherwise a good upgrade form the old stinger.

Regardless, pretty much any BL system will win. ? is tho, why spend ~$300 for an inferior Novak when you can get a solid sensorless system for less and is much more powerful and upgradable? Really hard to beat a MMax/XL in this regard.

squeeforever 03.20.2007 06:04 PM

I believe that speed was on 7 cells with the extra pinion, but I didn't know that it would smoke the motor...Anywho, your right, hte MM/XL is the best setup, especially for the money.

Morepower 03.20.2007 06:14 PM

Starluckrc has a mm/12s combo on sale for $160, would that work?

squeeforever 03.20.2007 06:59 PM

Nope. Need a bigger motor. Like I said, MM/XL.

BrianG 03.20.2007 07:01 PM

Of course it would work Squee.... you just gotta gear it low enough. Of course, top speed will only be like 10mph... ;)

Morepower 03.20.2007 08:34 PM

So your telling me a 540size 12s motor would not work in a emaxx? I realize its not the ideal motor but it would have to perform better than titans.:032:

The 12s is for a touring car or light 2wd buggy rather than a heavy e-maxx. It just doesn't have the torque necessary to move an e-maxx that well. So, in short it would not really preform better than the titans. You need to get an XL motor, 7xl or 8xl would do fine.

Hope this helps!

so im thinking mamba maxx esc and a 7-8 xl motor ? ok i went and looked and i dont see anything that says 7 or 8xl in the motors section...
also would this work ?

http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...MM_7700&cat=20

on a second note i will be running 12 cells now but would like to run 14 later so i need something that will work with 12 and accept or be even better later with 14. and when i said speed wasnt a huge thing i just wanted to beat my friends rustler it meant i dont wanna have $600-$800 in my setup but i also didnt wanna come on and be like hey i wanna go fast for cheap !!
i was thinking under $300

you need

THIS

THIS Choose which ever motor (7 or 8xl)

and THIS

Personally, I'd choose this motor (choose 7XL or 8XL) along with the heatsink/clamp (select the XL size). MetalMan has his endbell pop off on his Feigao even though it's screwed down, but he said he's having good luck with the JB Weld...

v1d9uy, the 7700 (or any MambaMax combo) uses an "S" size can, which is too small to run an emaxx. BTW: The number (7700) is how many RPMs the shaft turns with 1v. The "S" or "XL" is the length of the motor. A longer motor will have more torque (and lower kv) than a shorter motor of the same wind. Also, the extra length has more mass and surface area to shed heat.

That actually happened to me too, but the only choice of the motors you selected is a 12xl. I'm sure mike could get others too...

ok assuming i went with the Feigao why would i got 7 or 8 xl and not 9xl ?
and this http://www.rc-monster.comproddetail....WAND_XL&cat=20
dosnt let me select a 7 or 8xl motor just a 12xl

BP-Revo 03.20.2007 11:22 PM

I beleive the new Rusty's only do the 35mph with the "speed" pinion and 7 cells. At this point, Traxxas limits you to smooth, flat surfaces only or else the motor will be "damaged" (in non user Manual terms: fried).

The HV will be fine. It will easily out do the Rustler in any terrain.

I also happen to be selling mine, if you wish. Everything is New except the motor itself, and its only had about 15 runs, which was kept under 110* monitored by Telemetry. Drop me a PM if you are interested.

First Post!

I am also looking into converting my e-Maxx over to brushless power. If I went with the Castle Creations Mamba Max ESC and Feigao 540C 7XL on 12 cells, what pinion would I need?

Thanks

Brian

bwillhite 04.08.2007 08:11 PM

Bump!

Would the stock pinion be OK?

Thanks

Brian

You might try this...

As for my opinion on what to use...The HV Noavak will work fine but why stop there? I mean you know your friend will more than likely run off and upgrade his Rusty truck, so why not go one step higher ;)

If your using the stock 66t spur then the gear ratio would be ok with the 18t pinion...but the stock pinion has a 1/8 bore (3.175mm) and 7xl's have a 5mm shaft. Rc-monster sells 5mm bore 32 pitch pinion gears (which is what you would need to fit your motor and spur), but most people (including me) uprgade to mod1 pitch gears when using brushless, because mod1 gears have bigger teeth and are stronger.
There are some people that use 32 pitch gears in there brushless e-maxxes, but I'm not sure how long the gears last.
Probably worth doing a search to see what you can find out about people using 32p gears in e-maxxes, so you can decide if you want to stay with that or upgrade to mod1. If you go mod1, then the strobe slipper is one of the most popular choices. I've got one with no problems.
You'd need these parts
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...per-Kit&cat=40 slipper
www.rc-monster.com/proddetail.php?prod=ofn30110 spur
www.rc-monster.com/gears.php 10th item is 5mm bore, mod1 pitch pinion,
5mm bore 32 pitch pinion gears is 8th item if you stay 32p

actually i have the stock titans on a modded spur (2 less teeth than stock)
gp 3300's 7 cells and i can beat a 7 cell rusty xl-5.........get smoother tires im using stock 3.3 tmaxxx 38's series ( slightly bigger ) i know im overgeared but i only switch to second gear for high speed drags (ti turnbuckles rear cvds and as much stock plastic as possible to save weight)but i do have a wheelie bar and i still own in second gear. Titans dont really suck they just need 7 cells heck ive even RAN OVER a couple of nitro cars that trashed talked me into racing then on pavement !!! maybe it was luck but i LOVE my e-maxx and the titans have yet to fail me! REMENBER weight has alot to do with it, make sure u tighten the slipper too
