Mamba Max

I just got my Mamba Max in the mail today from rchippie and for some reason, it won't arm. The only thing that it will do is the green and red LED's come on and stay on. It won't program, or anything. I had it working after a while of having problems getting the computer to recognize it, programmed it and all, had it working, then went to reprogram it via computer again to update the firmware and for some reason it hasn't worked since. It WAS working before I went to update the firmware from 1.7 to 1.9. What gives?

Edit: I also forgot to mention that the computer won't recognize it either. I read the FAQ on CC's website and it said that it might be that the LVC is set wrong, but I'm not positive on that. Will it arm when turned on if thats the problem?

Check out this thread:
http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/s...d.php?t=234394
It has to do with the .Net stuff, and might apply to you.

squeeforever 03.22.2007 11:53 PM

Thanks Metalman. I don't think thats the problem though. I read a thread here about the same problem, but I don't think thats it since I have 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0, just that I remember. I have a 64bit processor though, could that be the problem ya think? I did work a couple of times, but now it won't...

glassdoctor 03.23.2007 01:39 AM

Uodating to 1.9 has caused a lot of problems... I don't recall what thread it was in, but someone reported a similar issue and somehow got it back to 1.7...

Something about having different Casltlelink versions installed... one of them wouldn't work... but a different version did work and he was able to revert to 1.7.

this is a mess..

squeeforever 03.23.2007 08:20 AM

Ok. Thanks gd. I think I remember that thread.

I kind of had the same experience with a Mamba 25. I called Castle, and the immidiately replaced it. for some odd reason programming caused this failure.

Can you check on another PC to see if it is recognized?

squeeforever 03.23.2007 04:47 PM

Yea, I'll try a little later.

Mamba problems.

Not sure what kind of radio you are using...but if its Spektrum you will have to plug a servo battery pack into the tranceiver the first time you set it up. Reason is because the mamba instructions require manipulation of radio controls immediately upon turning the ESC on. This is not possible unless you have a battery pack plugged into the transceiver (the radio system requires a few seconds to establish a link between the RX/TX and immediate manipulation of controls is not possible with the mamba internal battery eliminator circuitry). Without the battery pack, the power for the RX comes via the ESC and when you turn on the ESC switch...the RX/TX link is established (after a couple of seconds) and then radio control manipulation is possible.

Another potential arming problem is associated with improper end-point-adjustments (EPA). Make sure you set your forward, reverse, and brake EPAs to 110. You can dial them more precisely later...once you get the intial setup process completed.

I hope this helps.

squeeforever 03.24.2007 12:16 PM

Thanks, but I think its the Mamba Max's firmware. I don't run Spektrum so I don't think that is the problem. I tried it on a different computer and it still didn't recognize the Mamba, so I think I'm going to have to send it in...

Serum 03.24.2007 12:18 PM

did you gave CC a call?

crazyjr 03.24.2007 02:03 PM

Another thing, If you are running a futaba radio you need to reverse the throttle

squeeforever 03.24.2007 04:29 PM

No, not yet. I'm gonna call them in a little. I'm running a M8, so the radios not the problem. I even made sure the RX channel wasn't bad. Its the ESC for sure since my friends computer won't recognize it either.

crazyjr 03.24.2007 05:42 PM

I just updated an older max and its inoperable now, got an email to themright now.
If they don't fix it or replace it i'm going to tekin

squeeforever 03.24.2007 06:04 PM

Obviously I'm not the only one with this problem. Larry, what did you tell them?

crazyjr 03.24.2007 08:17 PM

I asked them if they had advise for fixing it, or did i have to send it in to them. This is an older mamba max that i got on the castle list to get, I did do a newer one, took a few attempts to get it to work, but it did. Like i said this is not a warranty issue, the program they use is the culprit. If they don't fix mine they will lose my business.

I also asked why they had a defective program update that is causing them to lose face in the rc car world

AAngel 03.24.2007 11:07 PM

I've had several problems with my MMs over the past few weeks. Of the four that I have, two are cogging badly and I had a hard time flashing them. I emailed and called Castle and getting a response these days is like pulling teeth. It wasn't so long ago that you could call and get someone on the phone. I don't know what's wrong at Castle, but I'm gonna start going with Quarks soon. From my stand point, Castle is only hitting 50% with me.

BP-Revo 03.24.2007 11:12 PM

Well, I think it still should be taken into account that we are running the MM ESC's out of spec, in all technicality. We aren't supposed to run them in any 1/10 scale MT or larger vehicles. This pretty much limits the system to touring cars, and 1/10 scale buggies and stadium trucks.

However, the program thing must be dealt with. Its really a stupid reason to have problems with such a great system.

The one i have thats inoperable has never been run out of spec, I have run it on 3s but thats in spec with a 5700 motor. True, i expected this from my other two setups, but not the one i have played by the rules with

squeeforever 03.25.2007 12:33 AM

Well I have yet to run it out of spec, so...But yea, the problem I am having is BS. I think it should be dealt with appropriately, and by that I mean a new controller. :p I don't think CC will give any BS about it since it was nothing to do with me...

crazyjr 03.26.2007 12:45 PM

I got a mail back from castle, they say that there is nothing wrong with the 2.23 link and there must be a problem with the esc itself. so i set up my other esc's (4 others) to the 2.23 setup and they updated right (2 took three attempts to update but did), so, so far they may be right. They asked that i send it in to be checked out and i will tomorrow. I really hope they can fix it, that was mt first one and its kind of sentimental

squeeforever 03.26.2007 05:08 PM

I dunno...Me and you both had the same problem doing the same thing...

Serum 03.26.2007 05:09 PM

call castle..

crazyjr 03.26.2007 07:10 PM

I just had a second one quit working even though it worked fine after the update, unfortunately its no more along with the 4wd buggy it was in, use you're imagination. I just mailed castle that i am getting a 40% failure rate (2 out of 5 mamba maxxes) and am going some where else for esc's, I expect the others to fail eventually because the one failed after running once.

All i got to say is the esc and combo is the best thing out there, Just don't download the 2.23 link ware and you'll be ok. I may go back to nitro's for a while because i don't seem to get as mad at them, I expect problems with them, where i didn't with the mamba's

MAMBA MAX sale

Recently somebody posted a link where you could buy mamba max brushless power systems (ESC and motor combo) for $155. Now I can't find the link. :005: Does anybody know where it is?

Thanks.

BrianG 04.22.2007 07:17 PM

This is the link you are looking for. However, it seems like the post that had the original link must have been deleted because I can't find it either. After all, it is a competing store...

MetalMan 04.22.2007 07:27 PM

Guys, the link was removed because it is for a competitor.

BrianG 04.22.2007 07:29 PM

Sorry, my bad...
