GM single speed availability...?

Just wondering when the GM single speed conversion will be in at RCMonster. So i can order my parts I need.

zeropointbug 04.07.2007 03:05 AM

Does anyone know when Mike will have them in?

Serum 04.07.2007 03:19 AM

I guess it's a matter of a week or so. Don't know.

zeropointbug 04.07.2007 03:31 AM

K, thanks.

suicideneil 04.07.2007 02:25 PM

Email or PM mike- he's a good guy and will get back to you with a straight answer.

zeropointbug 04.07.2007 06:03 PM

I went and bought it at Gorillamaxx website, I couldn't wait. I just bought alot of other stuff from Mike too.

Hopefully next week I should be up and running.

540 7XL
Quark 125
5s2p A123

zeropointbug 04.07.2007 06:05 PM

Oh, and Mike said I could replace the pin inside the gear on the input shaft with another one. What size pin, and type of pin do I replace it with?

thanks

suicideneil 04.07.2007 06:09 PM

Geh? Not entirely sure what you mean. To do the single speed conversion the only thing that needs modding is the input shaft that needs cutting down as per the instructions you will get with it/ link on Gorillamaxx site shows you how.

zeropointbug 04.07.2007 06:11 PM

He said the pin that holds the gear onto the shaft. The roll-pin.

Has anyone done this before? Or is it even necessary?

GorillaMaxx360 04.07.2007 06:40 PM

yes that pin needs to be replaced because it is weak under bl power and it will snap under pressure. In novembers issue of 2006 it expains how to fix this problem and mike can definatly tell you what you use to replace the pin with. i was lazy and decided not to follow the mag directions because it tells you to use a drill bit end for the pin (small bit [use part of bit where drill clamps down]) and i dont have that size drill bit so i used a hex size peice and used that as the pin. i used a peice of a 5/64 steel hexwrench but the way i did it i had to file and file and i eventually got it pressed in with some channel locks this way will sure hold but it definatly takes more elbow greese. and there is no garunteed fit.

zeropointbug 04.07.2007 07:24 PM

Nov. issue '06 what?

A drill bit end sounds good, it's good steel at least!

mickeymoose 04.07.2007 07:59 PM

The article that was referenced is in the Nov.2006 issue of RC Car action, an E-maxx owner said he used a #44 drill bit. He heated the shaft in a toaster oven set at 400 degrees and pressed the pin in with some channel lock type pliers. This may work for you as it did for him but it's not guarnteed to fit. I tried it and it would not fit so I made a pin out of some weld rod that I turned down to size on a lathe. It hasn't given me any problems since. Good luck.

GorillaMaxx360 04.07.2007 10:52 PM

sorry forgot the mag name but yes it is rc action

zeropointbug 04.07.2007 11:35 PM

Well, how many of the ppl here do this mod? Up until now it never even occurred to me. I'll check it! Thanks guys

Andersen 04.08.2007 04:25 AM

Well I just broke mine. (e-revo with quark 125B and Feigao 540c 7xl) You might as well do it, when you are doing the single speed conversion anyway. The pin broke and the pices got into the gear - so it´s broke to. Trying to think of a solid way to fix the pin on my new shaft.

Patrick 04.08.2007 04:51 AM

My input shaft has drill bits in it and so do about 4 other peoples at racing (could be more). A few years ago when other e-maxx drivers at my track started going brushless (I only went brushless recently) and kept breaking things from the power, the roll pin was one of the things they would break.

tallyram 04.08.2007 09:18 PM

i used a hex end. it didn't even go in all the way and it still worked perfectly!

coolhandcountry 04.08.2007 09:54 PM

I found a small piece of rod that fit snug. I tacked over the ends to make sure
it didn't fall out. Still going strong.

rchippie 04.08.2007 09:56 PM

Mine still has the stock pin & still going strong.

zeropointbug 04.08.2007 10:31 PM

rchippie what are you running? as far as motors, batteries, weight? Front/rear weight balance has a huge effect on transmission stress.

9L on 14 cells with a strobe slipper & sprong. Weight im not sure my EV0 is done in DAFNI style ( stock chassis ).

suicideneil 04.09.2007 12:27 PM

Oh right, I think I know what you ment now- never occurred to me to change that bit- works fine with the stock pin (famous last words).

overkill5000 04.09.2007 04:41 PM

fello brushless

i have just purchased the gmaxx single speed conversion transmission what broke on yours? so i dont make the same mistake; im running a emaxx w/hv maxx 4.5 turn brushless motor by novak 1/8 truggy gears diffs and a high tork steering sevo and cam locking steering parts do you have any knoledge in that department?how does your truck do aginst nitros.

Welcome to the forum! Whereabouts in Orlando are you? I'm in the Lake Nona area.

what are you talking about i cant figure it out!im about to trim off my first gear is there something i need to know before following there instructions?

It was...it's since been parted out and sold. I've got several other vehicles I'm working on at the moment including a BL E-Maxx and 2 BL Hot Bodies LSP-R's.

On the input shaft (the one with the two metal gears attached to it, it's also the one you have to cut for the single speed conversion and the one with thread on it) the gears are attached with a roll pin that goes through the shaft and through the gear, this roll pin can break. Just looking at it you can tell it isn't that strong, since it's hollow.
People put a drill bit or something else solid in the hole to replace the roll pin.
Obviously you only need to do it to the bigger gear since your going the single speed conversion.

oh thanks i get it now;thats good advise!how is the single speed working 4u?im waiting for parts; cam locking bell cranks for steering; multi adjustable shock towers....what kind of steering are you running?

zeropointbug 04.10.2007 04:08 PM

What do you guys think, should I use some RED thread-lock on the pin I will use just add some extra hold? Probably doesn't need it if it's tight though.

suicideneil 04.10.2007 04:15 PM

It cant hurt to have a little extra security.

I don't have the single speed conversion, but I know a few people at racing that have or have had them, and they all seem to like them.
Some of the other guys use the UE steering I thiink, but I'm just using the stock setup for now with a better servo saver and a mid range hitec servo (don't remember what it's called).

suicideneil 04.11.2007 06:05 AM

Hitec HS645MG & Kimbrough large servo saver, good items.

neweuser 04.11.2007 04:34 PM

If you can, find a proline steering servo, they are great. I use the Hitec 5955, 333oz of torque, I love it too!!!

suicideneil 04.11.2007 04:48 PM

The only thing that stopped me getting the Hitec 5955 was the price- $110.... good servo though by all accounts.

neweuser 04.11.2007 04:49 PM

bought mine for 104.00 at my lhs, well worth it too IMO

ClodMaxx 04.11.2007 07:27 PM

i just picked up a 5955tg from an ebay seller (store) that has them for $89! i think he still has that sale going for a few more days, too.

for those that have the 5955, do you notice it 'beep' a lot? the instructions say it's normal and that the servo is just trying to center itself (it happens mostly under load), but it's soooo noisy! esp. compared to my old 645mg.

edit: here is the ebay listing. he has crappy feedback score (98%, not bad, but not perfect either) but i got my servo within a few days.

jhautz 04.11.2007 08:35 PM

I find Hitec digital servos to be noisey in general when compared to other brand digitals. Airtronics is nice an quiet.

I have both the Aitronics that Mike sells and the Hitec. The Hitec is more noisy, but I found with the Hitec if you adjust your EPA to perfection it creates less "beeping". But the torque you get is by far worth the noise IMO!!!:027:

coolhandcountry 04.12.2007 02:59 PM

I myself don't notice the noise when zipping along at 30mph.
