What would YOU do with a Hacker C40-12L?
Hi all
I have a Hacker C40-12L motor in a heli of mine, but it was a bad choice of motor for the model and I'm at a loss of what to do with it. I'd probably have to sell it for 25% of its original cost in order to compete with existing motors, so I'd rather put it to use than try sell it off. Well it's a great motor for those that don't know the Hacker C40 series. Heatsinked, sealed, 2500 kv, and probably good for 500-700 watts. I'd like to run it on 4 or 5 cells in a car of some sort. I mostly like buggies, but I think this motor would be overkill for a 2wd 1:10 buggy. Maybe a 4wd 1:10 buggy, but I don't know of any 4wd 1:10 buggies? What would you do with it? Let me know! :) |
team losi has the xxx-4 g+ and mrc academy has there sb series of buggies, these buggies are 4wd electric buggies.
|
Would be a nice motor for a 1/10 on 4s lipo.... :027:
|
Yokomo probably makes the best, but I would go with MRC's new buggy.
|
These are some really nice buggies. I am a sucker for belt drives. :004:
Squee, which one is MRC's new buggy? They all look good. :D I really like the Yoki MR-4BXF so far. Does anyone know what gear ratios these buggies use on their front and rear diffs? |
ratio is around 2/1~2.5/1,
the bx is 2.2/1 i think, uses a 84T spur 48pitch. most of the 4wd's are rather tight on space for electronics. your motor might not even fit if its more then 36mm. i think it wouldnt work in my 4x4. also, an sb v2 is a shafty. real sweet but also shaft drive is the predator x11. http://www.ttechracing.com/x11/ |

Crt .5!

Thanks. I just found the gear ratios of the 4BX too and it's the same as you say.
Hacker C40-12L is 36mm diameter. It is quite long though at 63mm, but I think I can shoehorn it in just. Well I've been doing some voltage calculations. Looks like 6S would be better given 10.26:1 final ratio and 2.2" wheels. That would give about 34 MPH. Is that a sane speed for a buggy like this? It just so happens I have two 3S 2600 packs that should fit the 4BX battery positions. :) |
Here's some options:
Tamiya TRF501X http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=49401 Kyosho Lazer ZX5 http://kyoshoamerica.com/carsandtruc...ars/30076B.asp Losi XX4 http://www.teamlosi.com/Products/Def...rodID=LOSA0011 Losi XXX4 http://teamlosi.com/Products/Default...rodID=LOSA0015 Yokomo MR-4BX http://www.yokomousa.com/kits/mr-4bx/index.htm |
Convert a HB Lightning Stadium 10. Sower loved his and that would be a killer motor on 4s.
To much power for the belt driven standard electic 1/10 stuff IMO. Stick to somethjing shaft drive with some decent diffs. The electric style ball diffs arent gonna last long either with that kind of power. |

GT-10 would be cool!!! Havent seen one of those done yet!!
|
I am thinking of getting a Jconcepts BJ4, looks like a nice 4wd buggy.

I want to avoid a conversion though. Already got a 1:8 conversion in the pipeline and it's enough of a pain in the butt waiting for components. :) Will look out for shaft driven kits. The JB4 looks pretty neat, Sylvester. Just looked at the Exploded View of it - looks like it uses Team Associated components... Are the two companies related? |
The SBV2 Pro is the newest one I believe. It's supposed to be one of the best buggies around.
|
The Bj4 is based on the B4, you can even get a conversion kit for a B4.
I have the very first Mrc buggy, and its awesome quite a strong buggy. |

Hey guys, I've been doing some reading. According to the MRC site the SBv2 is on clearance sale and is a final sale of the car. Sounds like they're discontinuing it??
I've read some of the reviews on oople.com and the BJ4 looks seriously hot to me. So far I like it the most and have put my name down on the preorder for a BJ4 worlds edition. I mailed Jconcept and they say they're going to be filling current preorders very very soon, so I might get lucky in not having to wait a long time for one. Anyway, will see how that goes. In the mean time I'm expecting new rims and tyres for my old RC10 buggy to arrive any day now. I've been struggling for the past 2 months to get my RC10 going again as it is one of the oldies from the 90s that needed spares. When I get them I'm going to haul the brushed setup out of it and load the Hacker into it along with a Jazz 40-6-18 that I have and two of the 3S 2600 packs I have. Want to see how that power system will run. If it works well I have my power system for a new 1:10 buggy. :) :D Check out Oople's BJ4 review. |
They might discontinue the SBV2, but no worries. It's proably because they just came out with the SBV2 Pro...
|
Ah, oops - completely missed the Pro version. I see it's literally just come out. I have more reading to do.... :) Thanks!
|
Hi all
I just got word that a BJ4 Worlds Edition is enroute to me. Only had to wait 2 weeks on preorder luckily!! :D So my question is answered. I hope to run 5S in this buggy with the hacker and the Kontronik Jazz ESC that I've been running in my RC10. Thank you to all for your suggestions. :) |
5s in a 1/10th scale?
you are crazy! |
Maybe. I can always remove cells if need be. :) I figured for long run times it'd be more effective increasing voltage and regearing than increasing capacity without regearing. With 2500 kv and 5S I can still gear all the way down to 35 MPH easily. :)
|
still crazy, but whatever suits your needs. lol. :D:p
|
Hi. Thanks for all your suggestions everyone! Here's where my Hacker ended up. :)

|

|

|
OK, now go get it dirty! Just don't break anything. ;)
