This is because airlines are not allowing most batteries to be on the planes anymore. For whatever reason, my mom went to Hawaii and they took her batts out of her camera too.

That's some big trouble.

I'm not sure how manufacturers do it, but they may be able to. I would expect it to be spendy if they are. UPS may still be able to, or Fed Ex or someone, but I know commercial airlines are not allowing any type of batts. My mom even had ones still in the package and they took those to, and they were only AA's!
