Hot Bodies Lightning 2 Pro Conversion
First off a big thanks to Rene (Serum) for turning my felt tip pen drawing into a nice CAD based chassis and then roping some bloke into cutting the thing out of 7075. A top job indeed and by some fluke all fits perfectly! all that was then left was for me to make a servo mount, speedo mount, motor mount and bolt the whole thing together. Not the pretiest car in the world but I didnt want to spend forever polishing it, this car is for BASHING!
specs are 9XL, warrior 9920 on 16 cells. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.beaso...ro/hbpro01.JPG http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.beaso...ro/hbpro02.JPG http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.beaso...ro/hbpro03.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.beaso...ro/hbpro04.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.beaso...ro/hbpro05.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.beaso...ro/hbpro06.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.beaso...ro/hbpro07.jpg |

W O W !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats amasing! |
yeah ryan, It was fun doing for you..
Only thing was the signature on MSN.. 'René ou are my love' or something like that.. :p <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/buikpijn/RyansLightning/photo#5056310634418208002"><img src="http://lh5.google.com/image/buikpijn/Riufu4aG_QI/AAAAAAAAAzQ/uacWdhHHf1E/s800/lightning%20chassis.JPG" /></a> <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/buikpijn/RyansLightning/photo#5056310638713175314"><img src="http://lh6.google.com/image/buikpijn/RiufvIaG_RI/AAAAAAAAAzY/S5qW9ngy7QQ/s800/lightningSW.JPG" /></a> It's still purple though.. |
Great job Serum and candyman. The layout is really nice. Have fun with it!!
Yah, thats really nice! Very symmetrical, and nice wiring job Candyman!
You've done it again!
Now get some Lipos. :) |
Looks nice! Is it extended any?
Serum, whats wrong with purple? |
not extended, its a bolt on chassis same dimentions as the original.
Great conversion, Its nice and clean!
Looks sweet. Great work. I wouldn't have one as a basher and racer. Double duty.
Purple? it reminds me of rather cheap build cars.. That's what's wrong with it.. stanced aluminium. Molded GPM parts.. Savage hopups you don't want to buy..
HPI/HB, they all use purple. i like silver, gunmetal, blue and black. Purple isn't doing me any favour. So i guess it's just another matter of taste Squee. And if you've seen the rest of Ryans collection purple doesn't fit.. :p |
Yea, I've seen most of em. I myself am rather fond of purple, black, silver, and a hint of red, like the Traxxas hopups that come in red. Not much on blue really...A little here and there is ok.
I'll take mine in "monster blue" please. :)
And Ryan - sweet buggy - I can hardly wait for the day when you learn the benefits of Lipos, though. That 16 cell tank could fly like the wind with a nice pair of Lipos(more power and half the weight). |
that looks awesome. gives it more of a factory look since the battery trays are built in. nice jbb :)
That does look very nice indeed, like it came from the factory like that. I'm making a L2Pro myself Here but it looks very amatureish in comparison.
I went for a motor low on one side and my battery on a tray. Yours has more room for cells, perfect balance, better cell cooling and it looks like by droping the cells into the chassis instead of raising it up to the mud guards you may have a lower CG despite the high motor. edit: to tidy up the link. |
I stick with the 16 cell packs as ive got two of them and they fit my maxx too, it was the easiest and cheapest way to build this buggy.
Even if this has a higher centre of gravity i'd leave it this way, symetry is very important to me! :) |
I think He means that this design enables the batteries to lay lower than with the usual height of the batterieholders. (onto the mud guards)
Simply AMAZING :017: .
Yes I'm impressed, those cells are lower than a dachshund's dangly bits, I wish I had thought of doing it like that.
Is that the original chassis, cut up, bent and de-anodized or scratch made from sheet? How did you get the bends on the front back and sides? |
scratch made.
Try reading the opening post.. :p
dachshund's dangly bits, LMAO :005:
I read the original post, cad/cam would be a good way to get the holes in the right places for both modifying or scratching, the metal you used and the original chassis are both 7075, it was ambiguous enough for me to seek clarification.
very nice and clean
I didnt realise it wasnt extended at all, looks longer somehow. That is some very nice design work & skillful translation of said designs into the finished article. Shame the weathers gone to poop again- 2 weeks of sunshine now its just cold/damp/drizzly....
Hopefully it doesn't end up being like your rusty, haha.
Looks really nice though. |
How about asking Mike to make an E version chassis for the 8th scale buggies?
I just watched that about 10 times, that goes very nicely and looks like it handles very well, I realy can't wait to get mine finished now, what gearing are you useing in that clip?
17/46 iirc
yeh i think so, it might be a bit tall, top end is a lot and it gets a bit hot. Could come down to 16 pinion but I'll probably leave it as is for now.
Your cameracrew showed up healthy again?
Fast and nimble for sure!! is this with the 3700's? it's agile for sure.. :)
That was insanely fast- sounds like it either under or over geared slightly- I think you mentioned that though. It drifts round bends really well and the steering is really sharp on grass and tarmac. I think its a cool feature that you can see the nice blue can of the motor through the shell- really trick/slick.
