Pro's New Ride

Hey guys.......
Some of you know that in March my '00 Dodge Intrepid (my daily driver) had a surprise engine failure (it appears that some gunk, chunk of gasket, who knows...) clogged an oil passage to the main bearings and the engine seized up. http://www.rcbros.com/forum/smileys/cry2.gif)
Of course it happend at a bad time (no time & no money and a heavy work load at the office) so I was rushed into replacing the car. My wife partially talked me into a low-mileage Pontiac G6 GT, fully loaded including leather, sunroof, and "Monsoon Stereo".
Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time so I went for it only to realize later that the seats have no lower back support, the stereo sounds like dog http://www.rcbros.com/forum/smileys/shit.gif and the brake system has some typical GM quirks.

Well I seriously missed my Intrepid even though the G6 was faster and handled better. I missed the size, comfort, and trunk space not to mention the 130,000 mile intrepid had NO squeeks or rattles and the G6 already had developed a few!
So I sought out a replacement! Almost bought a Charger R/T but with gas costs climbing and the high cost of insurance on the R/T...I picked THE BEST alternative! A Chrysler 300M Special! Essentially a factory built 300M hot rod! It has dual exhaust, 18" wheels w/Vette tires (Michelin Pilot Sport 245/45/ZR18 front and 255/45/ZR18 Rear) plus a host of other upgrades in the suspension, trans, engine, interior, stereo system, and exterior.
Check it out!

Couple more...

bdebde 05.18.2007 03:13 PM

Looks nice. Got the brushless and lipos installed yet? lol

Procharged5.0 05.18.2007 03:16 PM

Not yet! Need to do that soon! LOL!

I needed the trunk space to transport my RC's!

and just so no one needs to ask.....

I still have the Mustang and all my RC's. Nothing had to be "mortgaged"!

AAngel 05.18.2007 03:26 PM

Very nice. Is all of tha duct work on top of the engine intake or is it just hiding the electricals? I've always been a big fan of mopar. I had a V-8 Dakota that I had to get rid of. I miss it dearly. That thing was a bit of a sleeper.

Sylvester 05.18.2007 03:26 PM

I got the same car in Europe.. VERY nice. I got exactly same colours as you too! Gotta love them rims! :)

Procharged5.0 05.18.2007 03:33 PM

AAngel,

The "ductwork" is a dual-plenum intake. It has "active runners" meaning the air is routed thru the long runners ar low rpm to promote torque and thru the short runners at hi-rpm to promote max power.

I'm loving the car!

It'll be brutal when it comes time to replace the tires though! $277 ea. USD! :026:

Sylvester 05.18.2007 03:45 PM

Yeah, my tires arent showing much signs of wear after about 50,000km, the power is really good for an auto.

How many km or miles do you already have on yours?

AAngel 05.18.2007 03:50 PM

Very nice!!!

37,840 miles

Power is very good for what it is and the acceleration is excellent for a front wheel drive car!

What's really amazing about the car are the suspension and brakes. The skid pad #'s and the 60-0 and 70-0 distances are exceptional for a sedan, in fact one road test reports that the 70-0 distance was only 4' longer than the distance needed by a Porsche Carrera! (167' vs 163')

Skid pad is supposed to be around .88 but I saw one article calling it .91 (I can't believe it's that high however).

Any pics of yours???? Have you done any mods????

Sylvester 05.19.2007 11:26 AM

No, no pics, when i go to europe ill have to get some! I do however have a couple of DVD's of the car in a couple weddings.. This car is truely awesome!

Procharged5.0 05.19.2007 02:14 PM

Glad to hear you like yours so much. The more I drive mine the more I like it.

Very refined feel. I miss the asphault shredding power of my Mustang (hopefully the Mustang will hit the streets again in June!) But otherwise a GREAT car! I love the look of it and the wheel/tire combo!

@ Angel...
Thanks for the compliments!

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 05.20.2007 01:39 AM

Nice ride Procharged. I've always like those 300M's. Very plush inside. Now I know where Saturn got the idea for there rims for their new Aura. Saturn Aura rims. Similar anyway.

Procharged5.0 05.21.2007 10:23 AM

Thanks Johnny! I'm loving the 300! It's a perfect fit for me. Great handling & brakes plus killer looks (for a 4 door sedan)!

Power is good but after wheeling my near 600hp/3100 lb Mustang everything feels slow.......LOL!.

btw...I think GM is on to something with the Saab 9.3 platformed G6/Malibu/Aura/etc. A few refinements on the brakes and engine mounting plus some programming tweaks on the trans and it's a pretty impressive car. I just traded in an '05 G6 GT for this 300M Special (the 300 Special is light years better) but the G6 had very powerful brakes (with god aweful rotors the warped & unwarped whenever they felt like it), Continental tires that gripped like crazy (I was impressed!), and a tight chassis. The "electric assist" steering was bogus as the steering wheel felt disconnected from the car at low speeds but felt "dialed in" at 60+. Not bad...just needs a few tweaks. Thankfully more power and hydraulic assist steering is on the way with the '07's.

I've always hated the feel of transverse mounted engines. Torque steer and service issue top the list. Thank god the 300 has it's engine pointing in the right direction! It's easy to work on and is relatively high tech (would be even better if it had variable valve timing) but oh well.

.............I'm rambling now.....Sorry!

mach1stang 05.21.2007 11:14 AM

ok pro is the 14-71 mounted yet?

Procharged5.0 05.21.2007 11:34 AM

Nope. I'm going the twin tubo route! LOL!

mach1stang 05.21.2007 11:51 AM

let me guess twin 88mm's LOL?

Procharged5.0 05.21.2007 02:23 PM

Absolutely! LOL!

mach1stang 05.21.2007 02:26 PM

O i would have gone with twin 106s LOL, i dout that car could muster up enough exhaust to spool a single 106 let alone two.

Procharged5.0 05.21.2007 02:33 PM

Oh come on M1! It's a whopping 215cu in! No Prob! :005:

mach1stang 05.21.2007 02:42 PM

O boy!!! a whole 215!! holy crap, how do you ever keep the tires hooked?

Procharged5.0 05.21.2007 02:52 PM

It sounds funny, but the 3.5L in the Special puts out MORE power per cubic inch than the Hemi! IF the Hemi made the same power per cubic inch it would make 420hp!

It's a great little engine really.

I believe that there is no replacement for displacement but given what's available today, new car prices, insurance cost, fuel cost, etc., etc. The 3.5L/260+ hp motor that gets 26mpg is a winner in my book.

When I want to go kick some ax on the imports or burn some rubber I pull out the Mustang, scare the neighbors and have fun!

mach1stang 05.21.2007 02:57 PM

haha yeah but nothing sounds better than a camed big block.the last time we had our stang out we did a few test launches on our road (we own the road) we shook the neighbors windows and put ripples in his pool.

AAngel 05.21.2007 02:59 PM

I've always been a big fan of normally aspirated, but Procharged is right. It is costing more and more to take a ride to the corner store. Besides, technology has moved forward by leaps and bounds. These days, you don't necessarily need the displacement and the smaller engines tach up very quickly too.

mach1stang 05.21.2007 03:01 PM

yeah i know trust me there are a ton of new cars these says that are getting good mileage and can still blows doors off, but you cant beat having a 9 sec street car that shakes the earth.

Agreed! There will always be something special about a vintage muscle car or a serious street/strip machine. Until I owned the Mustang I scoffed at small blocks. I after all was a 440 Magnum guy (wishing for a 426 Hemi...like we all do) tearing up the asphault in my '69 Charger R/T.

The power & performance of the 5.0L Stang can't be taken lightly.....It's kind of the '80's & '90's version of the '60's 350 Camaro really.

I'll never forget halping my friend at the track one day with his SSO Mustang. Running 26x10 M/T slicks, mufflers, and a seriously bad 342" stroked 302 with a HUGE F-2 Procharger (or could have been a Vortech Mondo XX-Trin at the time). He line up against a 632" '69 Chevelle (a very nicely built car) with 14x32 slicks. He ripped off a 8.67 @ 167mph to the Chevelle's 8.89 @ 158! The Chevelle guys we're joking about how bad they'd spank the little blue Mustang as the cars staged.
:005:
Guys have pushed their Mustangs MUCH MUCH harder since then with the top players running in the 6's on 10" wide slicks and Low 6's @ 230mph+ on prostock tires.

well, enough of my rambling..........

mach1stang 05.21.2007 03:30 PM

very true our mustang is a 302 out to 414 and there is still hundreds of horse power we could squish out of it, how about this stang this is our friends new car he just built.

Procharged5.0 05.21.2007 03:47 PM

Very nice! Looks like he was overpowering the track though!......

mach1stang 05.21.2007 04:03 PM

he could have been but it did not seem to bother the car at all. he is only running a 700+ inch big block with more spray then you could shake a stick at.

Procharged5.0 05.21.2007 05:45 PM

The car was a handful. He was steering it all the way down the track.

But, not surprising for the combo.....he'll just need to duial in the chassis a little bit.

mach1stang 05.21.2007 09:40 PM

yeah but the best part is the guy that was driving its not his car the guy that owns the car is scared to drive his stuff, but i would be pretty scared of a 770 hemi with 2 or 3 stages of nitrous.

Procharged5.0 05.22.2007 10:01 AM

What size tires is he running? 34x17?

mach1stang 05.22.2007 11:53 AM

yeah around there, he spent like 75,000 on that motor and thats about all they will be able to get out of it cuz any more spray and the motor wont want to stay together, the guy that owns the car tunes on a ton of cars and can make a car go but he mostly makes them blow, OOPS.

here is a few other cars he tunes on.
