MY first BL supermaxx conversion!
hey guys i bought this supermaxx a while back http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=280095131181 and its just been sitting around forever. was going to convert it but never had the money...
just recently i boug this truck http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=002 only for the lipos and i was going to sell the rest of the truck and get most of the money back... then i realized.. that if i take the tranny and the BL components it should basically mount up with no mods to the t-maxx correct? its only an hv-maxx but i think it would still be insane on 4s lipos... here are some pics of the start!! most of the gas components have been taken off http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC00915.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC00916.jpg will be taking everything off a little latr!! o and here is a pic of the diffs.. will get more detailed pics in a bit http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC00917.jpg |
My man, that would indeed be a really cool idea. Take that Emaxx tranny, lock it in 2nd, bolt it onto the Supermaxx chassis (may require some minor modding, might not- you'll soon see), add some good battery straps/trays etc, and that'll be pretty much it. I did see the second max for sale a few weeks back & wondered who bought it in the end; now I know! The only issue really will be that the Supermaxx diffs will make the truck run backwards (emaxx diffs are set up to rotate in the opposite direction when you aplly throttle), so you will either need to flip the diffs, or mount the whole tranny backwards- either way is fine but the HvMaxx cannot be run in reverse like an XL etc. Check the centre shafts are the right length too, but they are easily tweaked.I think those are the only points to consider really, then you can flogg all the unwanted supermaxx bits like the engine, fuel tank etc, and sell the other emaxx as a roller. That should get you back at least $200-300 dollars.
Q. Can I/we get some pics of those Supermaxx diffs- they appear to be square which is very odd.... Edit: dont use those weird metal tower things- people tell me that they are designed to restrict the suspension travel, which leads to broken A-arms if you do any sort of jumping. Get a centre skid too, and sell the horrid blue body which is too long- yuk. |
you will need to run the tranny backwards or flip the diffs, HV runs the same direction as the titans and will need either (turn tranny or flip diffs) to run right. Since yiou are putting the tranny in now it would be easier to do the tranny. Locking into 2nd is a good idea, 1st is not needed
|
ya i think i will flip the tranny.. lol ALOT easier than taking apart everything to get to the diffs..
will take pics when i have time but my g/f is down in town so time is mostly spent with her! |
|
You dont get much chassis for your money do you?! But I think thats the whole idea. The emaxx tranny should bolt in fine, but you will definately have to buy/build some proper battery trays for it. Those diffs are very weird, but being UE with 1/8 gears should make them indestructable with the HvMaxx- just be aware that on 14.4v you will want a gear ratio of between 25-30:1 overall, depending on weight, but that should be a pretty light truck when its finished~ 9-11lbs maybe.
Is that your GF in your avatar- I can see why you would want to spend alot of time with her..... |
That's probably 7071 aluminum, which is incredibly strong for its weight, also very expensive
|
lol i wouldnt know.. i didnt buy the stuff!!
and ya i noticed that too.. the chassis is pretty small... ill probably either put the battieres like on it's side vertically or stacked on top of each other... i am going to try and find some bl t-maxxes to see what kind of things they did. o and ya that is my g/f lol.. she sais thanks for the compliment!! haha |
Lucky man. I dont have a GF, but I built the Gmaxx as a subsitute....
Anyway, I have seen maybe one or two Tmaxxes with the stock chassis modified to become emaxxes, but that it the only real difference- the chassis & diff orientation. Im thinking some U channel alloy or CF would be good for battery mounts, or better still some clear polycarbonate so you can see the sexy chassis through the mount when the batts arent in place, whatever fits & is the right shape/size really. |
howabout some gorrilla maxx straps and call it good? lol... i will probably end up doing that then one day get some real battery trays.. haha
and ya... girlfreinds are espensive!! haha! definetly worth it though! well mine at least.. anyways, i will look over it more and see what are the optionsi canwork with.. im not too good at making custom things... i dont have enough patients... lol... |
a pic with the body and tires
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC00953.jpg i have never actually done my own conversion and now i understand why you guys do these!! they are so much fun! especially when you know its going to turn out awsome!! CANNOT wait till the stuff comes!!!! i have a hyperion charger 125021 or w/e and temp guage for it in the mail thanks to RC!! (the member name RC) i ordered a hyperion balancer off rc monster that should be here in a couple days and tht e-maxx with the lipos and bl system/tranny for my supermaxx!! WOW!!! i think i overspent some of my money!! haha! o well ill get around 300 back when i sell the e-maxx roller and the gas parts that came with the supermaxx!!!!! |
At Least 300. Hey When Is A Good Time To Come Over To Day Fb Practive Gets Over At 10
|
It is actually the EOS1210i, lol.... 125021 is pretty close.:005:
|
haha ya something like that! i didnt feel like researching it!!
one day ill know all the terms and say everything right! lol |
so i got the truck in! started taking apart and took some pics!!
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC01009.jpg my awsome wiring http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC01010.jpg after i installed the deans http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC01012.jpg will get some pics of how i might set up the batteries tomorow when i have some more time! |
Nice job!! Looks great. So the e-maxx tranny bolted right onto the t-maxx chssis?
|
instead
of flipping the diffs get an inverted motor mount from kershaw designs, he doesn't list it but hes making a single inverted mount for my hv-maxx right now because i put my diffs in backwards and am too lazy to flip them
|
You could simply use two motorplates and a few spacers to make your own though.
|
Correct, that would be so much easier & cheaper. As for the supermaxx, you need to turn the tranny around otherwise it will run backwards like that! The esc motor wires are just long enough to mount the esc right infront the gear cover, but the sensor wires to the motor are a bit shorter, so you have to kinda run them up over the top to reach the esc from the motor:-
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...xx/gmaxx19.jpg Obviously I have a different chassis but thats basically the neatest way to do it- just tie them down to prevent any nasty accidents from loose wires. |
actually i am currently bidding on an flm chassis. dk if i will win but i think it ended rightnow... hmmm i should check it
also i put the tranny on the wrong way the first time and realized i had it backwards so i flipped them (took about 5 min) and now its running ok. steering is my main problem as of now... i dont have the right kind of steering horn orsomething... itsnot alowingit to steer very much. when i get more time tonight i will mess around with it and see if i can get a quick video of it running. |
o and suicidelneil very nice job on that truck! well partial truck. looks awsome!
o and suicedel how did you mount your switch from the hv-maxx? like did you use 2 sided tape or what? thanks |
Hehe, thats an old pic- couldnt wait to start putting it together. I have the switch screwed down into/onto one of the many spare holes on the Gmaxx chassis- anywhere you can reach into with the shell on is good- saves having to remove the shell before you can turn it on/off. As for steering, is there just not much throw, or is the servo binding & humming when you try turning the wheel? I had great fun trying to get my steering correct to begin with- looking at the exploded views on the traxxas site definately helps.
|
ill take a vid of what its doing later tonight and then we will see..
|
Good plan. Im off to bed shortly but I will be sure to take a careful look tomorrow- most likely something simple enough to fix/adjust, just need the eyes of a hawk to spot these things sometimes. Not that my eyes are that good- slight stigmatism of the right eye due to years of shooting airrifles left handed = lazy right eye..... go figure.
|
lol that doesnt sound like to much fun! (stigmatism..lazy eye)theother part seems fun!
ill get it all up tonight maybe. |
wheres the vid iv been waiting all night.
|
Its only so we can identify the issue with the steering remember, nothing to get excited about. Setting it up like on the emaxx is the first stop, so paying attention to servo posistion & neutral position is key. Also, make sure the servo arm/bell crank isnt fouling the front dogbone- I had that problem to begin with.
|
neil i figured it out! i coudlnt get a vid cause i was withmy g.f all night long. there were some screws and crap not letting the tires turn. kinda hard to explain but its runnning great! cant wait to charge thelipos up!
can i use a car battery for the power supply of my hyperion eos1210i? and everynight just charge the car baterry? how will that wor?k? |
UPDATED PICS...kinda
heres the way the batterys are going to be held on... for now.. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC01018.jpgor this http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC01019.jpg put on another set of shocks because when i floored it the truck woudl bottom out.. (the shocks were very loose) http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC01020.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/DSC01021.jpg |
