Deans vs Powerpoles vs Gold bullets
 

Which connectors gives the least resistance? How can a connector have less resistance than the wire itself? Which on of the three would you recommend?:confused:

Connector choice is really up to the user. Bullet connectors are probably the least desirable out of the three because there is less contact area. And you'll find many opinions about the powerpoles and deans. The Deans are easy to solder and are small. The powerpoles are easier to grip but are bigger as a result. Your choice really.

I assume you mean Deans when you ask how a connector can have lower resistance than wire? The answer is simple: contact area, high pressure, and conductor diameter. However, once those Deans start getting dirty, that statement is no longer true, so keep them clean.

You could also try larger bullet connectors that do offer a large contact area. The 5.5mm and 6mm do this, although I don't know that they offer less resistance than the deans.

On the other hand, I've never had any reason to use anything other than deans on the battery connections.

My Tamiya(I think I spelled that right) melted on Sunday so it is time to upgrade. Doing a little research. Thanks for the help.

Pretty much anything is better than those connectors! You will be well served by replacing them...

I have a 9920/8xl that im going to put 5s to. Will powerpoles hold up?

I use powerpoles on both my truck and the are doing great. I started to solder them as i can reuse the connectors.

They will hold up 5S on 8XL with no problems as they never break a sweat on my maxx

It probably doesn't matter for our low average current draws but the boat guys have found that deans are good for up to 70Amps continuous, over that and you need 5.5 or 6mm bullets.

I switched from powerpoles to 4mm bullets and think that 4mm have the edge in resistance, but there is not much in it, if your setup is oK with one, either will be fine, I made the made the switch mostly for availability and price over here. I have never used deans, other than deans micros, so I can't compare the 3

Even poxy Tamiya connectors have less resistance than the wire (as long as the wire is 500 gauge), that statement is just marketing BS.

30amp PP are getting beaten up a lot by 100A my motor pulls during acceleration, so I will start to use 45A contacts as they fit in 30A housing and work together with 30A contacts

I went w/ 45 amp Powerpoles on the batts and batt-esc conections and gold bullets on esc-motor connections.

I say "hard wire". :smile:

Definately better but I havn't settled on the permenant motor/esc for my truck yet and I have not learned how to solder.

I find it very hard to comprehend that you were still usings Tamiya connectors Mark.

Make sure you get the right solder. Pick up some extra deans for if & when you screw up few. I join a male & female connector together before I start to solder. You can get the brass too hot and then it (brass tabs) will shift position in the composite connector and will join together properly.

Have you read anything online about soldering? Have you considering the new Traxxas type connectors?

That was back in June before I knew what 7 cells would do and I was fairly new to tweaking an E-Maxx. Two months of talking with you guys and I have learned alot.

My brother is an elecrical whiz. He builds and fights BattleBots. I guess I am just lazy having him around. When it comes down to wiring I just give him a call and its done.

I have always used deans on every rc I have had. I also usually direct solder the ESC to the motor. Its just easier this way for me, since I never move my motors to different cars. Once it is in a car, it stays there, lol.

If you want a REALLY low resistance connection, try a complete Deans on each wire.

I am just not sure if the Neu or the MM will stay in the E-Maxx. Depending on the cogging issue I might swap one of them, Neu for Lehner or MM for MGM. Then because I have an expensive part left over I'd have an excuse... umm... reason to tell my wife about the E-Revo I want to build next.
