Which Lehner Motor for my E-Revo???

I have everything set up to finish my E-Revo. Everything is set except a motor. I have the MM ESC. I have 2 Maxamps 6000 mah 2s2p that will run in serious. I put a thread together in June were enough people said to use the 1940. But I read in the temporary forums were some use a 1950. Which should I buy? And how many turns 7, 8, or 9 should the motor have? I will be manly bashing but some racing locally. I want it fast yet durable and I will mess with gearing after I have the motor. (look for the thread later LOL) I hate to give my business to fine design but I read Mike's temporary thread about not carrying Lehners any more. If any one has a used one they want to part with let me know at cdmiche@sandia.gov.

Also I am using the Emaxx Tranny locked into 2nd. I read a thread from Brian today stating you should have a different slipper clutch. I have the stock one so what other slipper clutch would work? Or work better?

Thanks all!!!

If it were me, I'd look into a Neu 1515/1Y. A good number of folks are getting them to work well with the MM ESC with little to no cogging. I believe Mike himself evens runs a Neu on a MM.

I agree with what skellyo said. As for the slipper, you can try the strobe slipper from the RCM store, or the Robinson Racing one.

I would say a 1940/7 if running 4s. I have not tried a Neu with the MM, but I did try a Pletty (also 4 pole) with the MM. Even the occassional cogging was enough to piss me off. Try FDM, after all he is THE US distibutor for Lehner now. I know many on here have bad things to say about him, but I have had fantastic service with him.

Hickoryhead 08.29.2007 09:02 PM

What is cogging exactly?

bdebde 08.29.2007 09:22 PM

It is like a hesitation until the ESC finds the rotor position. It can sometimes cause a violent jerking if putting alot of throttle into it from a stand still (very bad).

Hickoryhead 08.29.2007 10:03 PM

I am a perfectionist. I had to buy a new radio because the stock one I had for my BL Stampede was jerking around the truck. I don't understand it but the ground was harder than the radio. LOL I don't want cogging to happen so I will stick with Lehner. I am not satified with the reports of the customer service from Lehner but its what I run in my other RC's. They work great for me. I hope Fine Design works out.

As a side note whats the difference between a 7 turn, 8 turn, or 9 turn motor? Say the motor is a 1940.

Lower number equals lower wind. Lower wind means faster motor. Look at the kv number which is rpm per volt. You want to run your motor at a max of 35k rpms. This helps keep the heat down. Multiply the voltage battery you wish to use by the kv to get a motor rpm figure and try to stay below 35k rpm. Such as 14.8v x 2200kv = 32500 rpm = good. And then gear your truck to the speed you will want to run at. I gear all of my stuff to around 40mph cause it suits my drving style and area I play in.

I am looking new motor too, but I dont know what I take.. Is Lehner 22XX good motors ? I am looking good speed and torgue for my revo, I use 10 000mAh maxamps 7.4v LiPos (14.8v) . Some peoples says Neu 1515 1y, but its out of stock and I need my motor soon.

E-Maxx King 08.30.2007 01:36 PM

Get a lehner 2230-2250 and hit 60 in that revo. You might have to run more voltage.

Hickoryhead 08.30.2007 05:25 PM

As in 60 MPH!?! That fast?

pb4ugo 08.30.2007 08:15 PM

I have a 1950/7 turn I may part with. I am also in Southern Utah (Washington) so you won't have to pay shipping! Or if you just want to bash, let me know.

Hickoryhead 08.30.2007 08:43 PM

I am interested. Write me at cdmiche@sandia.gov. We can go from there.

E-Maxx King 08.30.2007 11:59 PM

Ive read about people with this 22?? on 4-8s hitting 60 np. Just search lehner 2230, 2240, and 2250. O and there the same price as a 1950. But I dont know how well the revo will handle at those speeds.

coolrunnings 08.31.2007 04:56 AM

My lehner 1950/6 is great on 4s in a 8.5 pound truck, before that it was a 1940/5 on 3s it rocked too.

How much speed you get with that 4s setup ?

Hickoryhead 09.01.2007 09:13 PM

AHHHHHH!!!! I ordered a 1940/8 through fine design. They chargered my card and waited till Friday to let me know its NOT in stock! AHHHHHHH! Why have it on the web site as being instock if its not. I am pissed!!!! Now I have to wait until Monday if they work the holiday or Tuesday to get it fixed. What a waste.

lincpimp 09.01.2007 09:25 PM

Sounds like FD has struck again!!!!

I am suprised that you found out at all. Usually after waiting 3 weeks for some sort of shipping comfirmation you cet a message tyelling you that he may ship it out soon. I waited about 4 weeks for a pair of battery trays that are made of thin material and have dry rotted o-rings as straps. Thats FD for you, just BS!!!!

Hickoryhead 09.02.2007 08:53 PM

I must have missed something. Because of Fine Designs great customer service I went looking for a different motor. Neu is looking good. I will call Mike and ask him about it. But whats the difference between a Lehner XL 2400 and a 1940? They look close to the same comparing the stats but I must be missing something. Any ideas??

hyperasus 09.05.2007 02:59 PM

I wanted to run a 2230 on my G-Revo. But that requires a special motor mount so I decided heck with and decided to stick with a 1950 or neu 1515. A 2240 would be pretty insane though if you can figure out a way to mount the sucker.

E-Revolution 09.05.2007 06:22 PM

Is that Lehner 2230 or 2240 good for E-Revo ? I want good speed and torgue with 14.8v 10 000mAh LiPos .

Hyper I can get a mount made. No problem. I have a machine shop here at my work with a machinist whoes hobby is making $1,000 knives. Its his hobby. Needless to say he can make anything and everything with metal. If I had a motor and what you wanting it mounted to he can have it done in less than a week. He wont charge us if we give him supplies to work with. If it will do what you say I will have 2 or 3 made if others are interested. Let me know.

hyperasus 09.05.2007 10:48 PM

Very nice. Now I find myself getting the 2230 itch again.

BTW Hickory....you probably already said, but what speed controller will you be using?

Hickoryhead 09.05.2007 10:58 PM

I will be running the MM with 2 Maxamps 2s2p 6000 serioused. Let me know what you want to do. Or call me.
