HOLLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:surprised::surprised::s urprised::surprised:

Thats ALOT of motor LOL

gixxer 09.10.2007 10:47 PM

that thing is huge. you plan on doing a 1/5th scale?

BrianG 09.10.2007 10:55 PM

What's the rpm limit on that? Usually, the larger the motor, the lower the limit. But the torque should be something to behold!

What are the other specs on it?

aqwut 09.10.2007 10:56 PM

looks like a 380 compared to a 540.. :)
I love it that motor...

cemetery gates 09.10.2007 11:03 PM

That is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!:surprised: I want one now!, all I need is something to put it in.........

Bye:mdr:

MetalMan 09.10.2007 11:18 PM

That's not a KB45, is it? I just ordered a KB45-10XL, and if it's really that big, I'm gonna have to do some redesigning...

bdebde 09.10.2007 11:27 PM

That's going to draw some juice! Hope ya got good lipos!

captain harlock 09.10.2007 11:29 PM

Good lord?
Is this a cheap comparison to the 22series Lehners?

offroader 09.10.2007 11:40 PM

Wher did you pick that baby up from? What is the specs:gasp:

gixxer 09.10.2007 11:47 PM

captain harlock 09.10.2007 11:52 PM

I say it's size is like a 2240 motor.

mkrusedc 09.11.2007 12:02 AM

I am speechless........................................ ..

jnev 09.11.2007 12:16 AM

Oh my. Thats... big? Let us know how it runs.

lincpimp 09.11.2007 12:26 AM

Sorry guys, had you going. It is a KB 45 motor from UH. It is a 10 long can, 1800kv IIRC. It is next to an 8xl, a 380 8xl!!!

Here are some pics next to 540 motors. The motor in the foreground is a xl 540, the other is a l 540. I had to, just to see the responses!!

The KB motor seems like a well made motor, connectors already installed too. It is 45 mm wide and 63 mm long. Has m4 threads set 30 mm apart. 6 mm shaft riding on what looks to be 6x12 mm bearings. The shaft has very little endplay/slop, and the can and endbells are nicely finished. I think it may be painted, cause there is a slight texture to the blue. Anyone know if the endbell unscrews? I read at some point that it does, but I am not 100% sure.

crazyjr 09.11.2007 12:57 AM

How well do they hold together? I wouldn't mind one for the Twinforce to replace the 2250 that shorted a phase. I have a 16024 that is begging for a big 8s setup

lincpimp 09.11.2007 01:02 AM

Not sure about performance, but I do have the 2 xl cans on the way too. I need to order some mod 1 pinions with 6mm bores from sdp-si and make a mount for the motor to fit an emaxx tranny. I should have the aftershocck tomorrow and hopefully get it all together in a couple weeks. I may also put one in a boat, who knows!!!

crazyjr 09.11.2007 01:13 AM

I'm more intrested in how they take a knock. I'm sure they will more than kick butt in a truck

lincpimp 09.11.2007 01:49 AM

I am almost sure that the front endbell is threaded on. I have a 28 series motor and the front endbell is threaded on. If so it should not have as much trouble as the pressed on feigaos do. i just hope that it runs failrly cool on 5s in my aftershock.

BP-Revo 09.11.2007 02:04 AM

Good god, thats a hell of a motor...

snellemin 09.11.2007 01:36 PM

my lower jaw dropped on the floor. That is one huge motor.

suicideneil 09.11.2007 07:27 PM

Almost had me going too, but I remembered reading that the KB motor has a 6mm shaft, and the XL has a 5mm shaft; the size difference of the two shafts in the first few motors was too big. But still, it is a nice big motor and very very well priced- if it turns out well Mike should sell them as an alternative to the Feigaos.

aqwut 09.11.2007 07:30 PM

that's the a 540 8XL.. .probably it's a 380 8XL.. LOL :)
that's a KB 45 L though correct.. cuz the XL is about the same length as the 540 XL..

MetalMan 09.12.2007 12:41 AM

Anyone know how to take these motors apart? My KB-45 10XL will be in soon, and I'm interested in turning the shaft down to 5mm to use it with the rest of my 5mm bore pinions. To do so, it would be easiest to pull the rotor out and throw it on a lathe.

lincpimp 09.12.2007 12:47 AM

If the motor is like the smaller kb motors the front endbell should unscrew. The easiest way I can think is to mount the motor to a piece of metal with the stock mount threads and turn the can with a strap wrench. I just bought some pinions with 6mm bore from sdp-si. They are steel so they should work with palstic spurs, not sure if they would last with a steel spur though?!?!?!

MetalMan 09.12.2007 01:08 AM

This motor is going in my Savage, and I had problems when using 33volts and a Feigao 12XL with melting the Kyosho plastic spur gears just from the sheer power, so I need to use steel spur gears. If I knew that the SDP-SI gears would last under that much stress (3000+watts and steel spur), I would buy a couple in a heartbeat.

aqwut 09.12.2007 05:25 PM

for myself... I just doubled the plastic spur gear. and got a wide pinion mad... I really would do anything to avoid metal to metal spur/pinion action.... :)

MetalMan 09.13.2007 12:54 AM

Okay, I would highly recommend ordering from Offshore Electrics. The price on the KB-45 motors might be higher than United Hobbies, but the shipping is super fast to people in the U.S. I ordered my KB-45/10XL on Sunday, and it arrived today in California (it shipped from Massachusetts).

This motor doesn't feel as heavy as I was expecting it to (but of course, feel is subjective). The 6mm shaft is the only problem with it at this point, besides the fact that I'll have to redesign and make a new motor mounting plate for my Savage... And that won't be fun.

lincpimp 09.13.2007 12:59 AM

Yeah steven at OSE ships fast and his customer service is great. I use him for all my boat needs and have bought a few motors from him too. He carries the s and l can feigao motors that can be hard to find. He also has the pixstix adapters and other cool stuff.

Yeah, I ordered 6mm bore pinions from sdp-si. 2 with s/h came out to be about 18 per pinion. Not too bad, I guess.

tashpop 10.01.2007 08:37 AM

can you give a direct link to their 6mm pinions, i cant navigate their site well.

lincpimp 10.01.2007 09:56 AM

Can't seem to get a link for you. Go here: https://sdp-si.com/eStore/ and select "metric unit" at the top, right below the part search box. Below that there is a list of items, click on "gears", then "spur gears", then "metal". The list on the right will open with all of the gears, select mod "1", then go over to bore size and select "6mm", then go back to hub style and selct 'with hub and setscrew". Pretty easy site to navigate once you make sure and check "inch" or "metric" before you try to search.

tashpop 10.01.2007 10:44 AM

thanks, is 32p=to .8 mod in metric?

it doesn't look like they have one for the maxx 32p gears. what should i do, i already just bought a rrp slipper/spur set. didn't i read somewhere that you can use mgt spur to get mod 1 pitch? i'd like to keep my new slipper if possible. i would just buy some 5mm bores from mike, but he's out of stock on most sizes.

Serum 10.01.2007 11:30 AM

32p is close to mod .8

I have some suggestions, but then it would be nearly impossible to put it together again..

BrianG 10.01.2007 12:28 PM

Yeah, 32p is exactly 0.79375 - pretty darn close IMO. I use 32p pinions with mod 0.8 spurs on my Jato and it has run forever just fine.

gixxer 10.04.2007 09:49 PM

so how is the motor?

lincpimp 10.04.2007 09:58 PM

Still working on the Aftershock. I bench tested the motor with a 125b and 5s and it worked fine, smooth and quiet. Should have the conversion done in a few weeks. Got sidetracked and decided to build a full tilt maxx truggy with a bomp-proof chassis, 1/8 diffs, rpm everything, aveox/quark on 5s, etc.

gixxer 10.04.2007 10:04 PM

okay, just wondering because it looks like a good alternative to a feigao.

MetalMan 10.04.2007 10:06 PM

My kb-45 10XL has pretty much been sitting around since I got it. Still trying to figure out how to turn the shaft down to 5mm... I tried using a rubber strap wrench (apparently called grip wrench) and a plate that mounts to all four screw holes on the motor to see if I could unscrew the front endbell. I heard from a guy that it would be easy to do, but I couldn't get the endbell to unscrew (if I had forced it much harder the grip wrench probably would have snapped).

Then I soldered the motor up to my HV-110 that will run it, and plugged everything in including 10s2p A123. Revved it a bit. Now I'm thinking of just taking a file to the shaft. That is, unless anybody has any better ideas...
