CC Bec anyone?

Has any one used one of these yet? I have read threads about them but not one using one yet. I need a BEC soon and Mike is "out of stock" with no reply yet of when he will get some in. (Mikes super busy that why I have not gotten a reply yet.) It looks good, priced right and I like my MM already. Any thoughts?

ClodMaxx 09.14.2007 10:59 AM

hmmmm....looks good. maybe mr. john holmes will chime in...he's quoted on castle's web page for testing.

glassdoctor 09.14.2007 11:28 AM

Looks like somebody messed up when making that "critical" connection diagram.

BrianG 09.14.2007 11:40 AM

Yeah, they say to never hook up the ( - ) BEC lead to the "bridge" ( - ) battery connector, but then the arrow points to the wrong ( - ) lead.

6s (25v) max input seems a bit on the low side though, especially with some of the HV systems out there now. I would think a solid 10s capability would be better.

Dagger Thrasher 09.14.2007 06:19 PM

Seems to me that the unit is mainly aimed at crawlers, which don't use super-high voltage setups (hence the massive amp rating for multiple servos). From what I've heard tho, it's a hardy little thing which does its job well.

MetalMan 09.15.2007 12:26 AM

The CCBEC does work VERY well, and aside from the lower voltage, is definitely the best of its class. The only problem right now is actually obtaining it...

Hickoryhead 09.15.2007 07:44 AM

CC is the only place I can find it at. If this is to low for power then what should I look for? Anything to look for? Mike is out of stock like I said but I need one soon.

Patrick 09.15.2007 07:48 AM

If you don't plan on using more than 6s then the CC one should be ok.

CC BEC at Holmes Hobbies

It should be available from John Holmes "in September", so that should be pretty soon at his point. PM him to find out.

ClodMaxx 09.16.2007 11:00 AM

i just found out that castle is behind on all of their products (i'm getting a 2nd MM esc for my crawler, as well as the BEC for my SM) and should be in at the end of the month. i'm not holding my breath though...

sapper_triple6 09.16.2007 08:06 PM

here you can get the one Mike sells.

gasshead 09.16.2007 09:22 PM

i got one, but still need to get another castle link to program it. its crazy small and should do quite nicley on my revo with only one servo and 3 fans

BitHed 09.18.2007 03:20 AM

..i have one enroute from Kansas to Japan but the shipping addres got 'muddled' and it looks like it might actually bounce back to CC and then have to be re-shipped :( Bummer...

magudaman 09.26.2007 03:24 PM

I got mine from the LHS and it works great so far. I did some testing with the stock voltage setting at 5.1v and took it up to 6.5 amps and the voltage drooped down to 4.5v with 18.6v input. The unit from my calculations was still something like 91% efficient. My LHS has a castle link for customers so I had them boost it up to 6.4v for my emaxx, I am running 3 fans and 144oz servo.

THE ONLY THINK I DON'T LIKE: is their thin output wire, it like 24-26ga and 1 foot long. Most of that voltage loss at 6.5 amps is probably in the wire.

BitHed 09.26.2007 11:50 PM

..yay! :D Mine has arrived and fitting it up...Have to agree with Magudaman though...prettty whimpy wires...would it be worth changing them or too much hassle?

magudaman 09.27.2007 12:02 AM

Im kinda afraid to cutoff the Shrink wrap as I can see two PC boards inside, It also seems that the wire is soldered flat to the PC board not through.

BitHed 09.27.2007 12:06 AM

...i was thinking that too...I might give it a shot and see what happens...I have a funky little alloy heat sink that fits perfectly too...Ok...I will redo the wires and if it all turns to poo then no problem :surprised:

magudaman 09.27.2007 12:12 AM

Hey take some photos of the inside if you can and post'em up or at least email to me, I might end up doing the same this weekend (replace wires).

BitHed 09.27.2007 12:15 AM

...will do...I will be putting a review up at E-Savage.com anyway as that is why CC sent it to me :D

magudaman 10.05.2007 03:07 AM

So did you ever try to mod the thing or post up a review?

BitHed 10.05.2007 03:44 AM

...can i have another weekend? I ended up taking out the stock center diff and replacing it with 'something' and i am a little behind schedule...Apologies...

lincpimp 10.05.2007 11:09 AM

What did you replace the ctr diff with? An apple? Maybe a picture of a ctr diff?

ClodMaxx 10.05.2007 11:19 AM

i think maybe a bowling pin. or a goldfish.

rchippie 10.14.2007 05:05 PM

How is everyone liking the castle BEC ?. I popped my koolflight bec & im thinking about getting the castle one.

...I tried an apple but the juice got everywhere...i tried a picture of a diff but the power pick-up JUST wasnt there...I ended up with a HellFire center diff and that seems to be the ticket :yipi:

lincpimp 10.15.2007 12:09 AM

I will personally try the bowling pin in my mlst, see if that helps the chronic crappy diff issues, thnaks for the idea Clod!

I tried my CC Bec today and like it better than the CCU(cheapo chinese unit) that I had on it before. I only ran it at 6v, but my novak fan seemed to spin faster then the CCU set at 6v. Most likely a better made bec, and at 20 bucks not a bad deal!

magudaman 10.16.2007 12:38 PM

I have been running my CC bec for about a month now in my e maxx and really love it. I have it set up for 6.3v and my fans are probably a little stressed but they are working fine. I have some where around 800 ma constant load and then my high torque servo can bring that up to around 2 amps at 5v. Nothing to heavy but for 24 at my LHS it is the best bec around.

dabid 10.17.2007 06:43 PM

I still have mine laying around, might toss it in my crawler along with the outrunner brushless I picked up. :mdr:

Looks like a little ESC!

Mine have been running flawlessly. The only issue I have now is my servos overheat from the full power flow.

DrKnow65 11.13.2007 04:07 PM

Arct1k, YOU ROCK!!!

Thanks for posting the pic's of your bec :mdr:, I was trying to get the part # for the mosfet it uses, fried my by shorting out accedentally :diablo:. I've opened a post in the brushless forum but I've just found the awnser here... If you can verify

The fet is closest to the red input wire and is labled AG9AY FDS 4435 ?

Anyhow the FDS 44xx (mine I could make out he last # was a 5) lets me know it's a p-type mosfet which was the question I realy needed an awnser for...

Thank you! :intello:
