MM update

just got this information. apparently Castle is updating the MM again...wonder if the specs will be lowered again, for all of them?

We were originally informed by Castle Creations that shipments of the MambaMax Combos and Controllers would be taking place this week to Vendors. Unfortunately Castle Creations is still behind in their production of the MambaMax controllers and they have informed us that they will not meet the production goal of shipping this week, delaying all shipments to all vendors & customers. The reason for this delay was with the new production of the actual circuit board itself for the MambaMax controller (Castle Creations builds all the controllers in-house at their own production facilities in Kansas) . We have learned that this new production of the MambaMax has several updates incorporated into it along with the latest software rev. loaded so while the wait for the latest version of these controllers is painful, it will be worthwhile to have the most up to date version.

Hmm, I wonder if the elusive Neu (slotted stator) fix is in the new version?

crazyjr 09.27.2007 01:15 PM

HMMMMM! that's intresting, maybe they have hit the limit on the current model and need to update to get the infamous slotted update installed

Arct1k 09.27.2007 01:51 PM

Will they permanently stop 4s though?

That would mean that mine old one will gain value!

now that would be great. then I would probably get rid of my quark and put back in my MM. :gasp:

bdebde 09.27.2007 03:08 PM

So, do you think the Neu fix is in the hardware then? We'll see I guess.

ClodMaxx 09.27.2007 03:34 PM

i'll have one from the first new batch...but i don't have a neu. anyone want to send me one to test??

mkrusedc 09.27.2007 05:51 PM

Sorry but I am keeping my Neu and MGM:na:

How about you send your MM for ME to test?

hey, i'm down. it's going in my stealth crawler, which i won't get to building yet for a while.

PM me your addy and she'll be on her way to you for testing as soon as i get it.

of course, you break it you buy it, lol... :mdr:

MetalMan 09.28.2007 12:11 AM

Do you have a timeframe for when you'll be getting your MM, ClodMaxx?

ClodMaxx 09.28.2007 12:13 AM

the email i got said castle would be shipping them to the vendors in the next 5-7 business days. but this is the 2nd or 3rd email where castle said that, lol.

lol, I haven't busted an ESC yet, but that would probably be my first. I think I'll pass; the "breal it you bought it" clause was the deal breaker.

No guts no glory Brian.

If they are so fast to get these out to our LHS then I don't see any excuse for the MMM delays.:diablo:

glassdoctor 09.28.2007 10:19 AM

Don't expect them to ship in a week... I talked to them Monday (I sent in 3 MMs, lol) and it sounded to me like it would be about a month to get them out.

ClodMaxx 09.28.2007 10:38 AM

what? castle over promise and under deliver? nah...can't be possible.

rchippie 10.03.2007 07:13 PM

I talked with castle creations today. They said at this point there is no new software to run the NEU motors. So when the next batch of MM's ship they will still have the same software.

MetalMan 10.03.2007 07:25 PM

You didn't happen to hear when the new batch of MMs will be ready, did you?

Arct1k 10.03.2007 08:31 PM

I've heard maybe thursday this week...

No i did not.

BrianG 10.03.2007 10:02 PM

I predict it will be "soon"...

glassdoctor 10.03.2007 10:33 PM

Acutally... they did tell me maybe 3 weeks... I est another week to get them to the distributors... thus "about a month"

That was over two weeks ago... so the end of this week would be about right.

I recall last October they had a big delay getting a shipment out due to some supplier issues (waiting on boxes and cds for packaging)

I hope mine are ready to ship Thurs....

MetalMan 10.03.2007 10:52 PM

I've got two MMs that I just want replaced. Would I be able to send in $100 and my two MMs, and then have them replaced? Or is there more to it?

glassdoctor 10.03.2007 11:35 PM

I would send them in first.. there is always the possibility that they will replace at no charge. Otherwise... it's a flat $50 fee. I don't know about shipping charges though.

BrianG 10.03.2007 11:38 PM

BTW: my "soon" response was tongue-in-cheek; just like their MMM page saying "Coming soon" for the last billion years...

ClodMaxx 10.06.2007 07:54 PM

i just got another email today that, despite castle saying a week ago that the new batch of MM's would be out in a week - that they're now a few days away from shipping. sort of reminds me of the quote from snatch:
turkish: 'what's happening with them sausages charlie?'
sausage charlie: 'five minutes, turkish'
turkish: 'it was 2 minutes 5 minutes ago!'

i'm turning purple from holding my breath.
(yes, that was sarcasm)

Arct1k 10.07.2007 10:32 AM

One of their distributers response...

"ya that is what is taking so long (been waiting a MONTH now!) to get these from Castle, they did some internal improvements and a new board so it's taken them forever to get up production. They are in the final phase right now though and start shipping next week!"

ICUBoy 10.15.2007 12:23 AM

FWIW I just received this email from Bishop Power Products (after a long wait...):
"I wanted to update you that I have had a new ESC sent out
to
you today ......This is also the latest
version of
the MambaMax ESC that we just got in. Thank you again"

So hopefully- not too far away...
(BTW I am learning a lot from you all on this forum- thanks!)

ClodMaxx 10.24.2007 04:39 PM

well, i got my 'new' MM today in the mail, and supposedly it has numerous updates - but the castle link software is still at 3.0, and firmware options are 1.09 (loaded) and 1.07.

there is no information on castle's site about updates to the circuit board to the MM.

joe - can you shed some light on this?

squeeforever 10.24.2007 06:15 PM

Castle Link is now 3.01.

glassdoctor 10.24.2007 10:11 PM

It does have new FETS ... not sure what else might be different

mwry13 10.28.2007 10:17 PM

So other than the new FETS, do we know the extent of the changes to the MM? and whats different about the new FET's in the board?

Joe Ford 10.29.2007 05:03 PM

The new FETs have 1/2 the resistance of the old ones...that is the only change.

BrianG 10.29.2007 05:04 PM

That's nice to hear! Less Rdson means less heat for a given current (assuming nothing else like switching speed was changed).

While you're on here, any idea when/if a software fix for slotted-stator motors like Neu and Novak will be released?

Arct1k 10.29.2007 11:02 PM

BUT guess what Castle Out of Stock again for all warantee replacements...

Dagger Thrasher 10.31.2007 07:06 AM

It looks like these new boards have heavier copper too, which can only help with efficiency: :)

"Be aware this is the NEW board -- lower RDSon FETs, 30 FETs, and heavier copper.

Thanx!

Patrick"

The Feigao 8XL, the RC-M pinions and other bits have all arrived- still waiting for the Bishop Power Products MM ESC. It's been a couple of months now- I might give up and get an ESC from Mike (MGM?) or OEMRC.

rschoi_75 11.12.2007 07:19 PM

really? you should send Troy (bpp owner) an email. He's usually super fast about shipping, unless its out of stock. And it shouldn't take months to re-stock the MM. Give him an email or call him. He's very helpful and a good guy.

ICUBoy 11.13.2007 12:40 AM

rschoi_75
Thanks a lot- I sent one off to Troy just a few hours ago- let's hope it's not far away!!
Kind regards
ICUBoy
