CRT.5 Finished
Hey, Just finished my CRT.5 so I tought I would share. Its been a work in progress for a while now. Time to work on these things seems to be hard to come by lately.
So far just a few laps around the living room. Seems like it has plenty of grunt. The Hacker 8L is probably a bit of overkill for this little beast, but I had it, so I'm using it. Its got Traxxas Bandit 2.2 Anaconda Tires on it right now because I am planning to take it out parking lot oval racing Friday night. Its geared 20/46 for around 45mph. Should be a handful at that speed being as little as it is. Final RTR weight is 4.2lbs with lipo. Overall I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with the model so far. Seems really solid, makes 1/10 buggies feel like toys. Setup: Mamaba Max Hacker 8L (3019kv) 3s 3300mah 25C Polyquest Lipo RCM Motor Mount Custom Carbon fiber center dif top plate/esc mount Custom CF battery tray Spektrum Micro Rx UBEC 20T RCM Hard Pinion Anyway, heres a few pictures. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...z/CIMG2366.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...z/CIMG2367.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...z/CIMG2368.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...z/CIMG2369.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...z/CIMG2370.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...z/CIMG2371.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...z/CIMG2372.jpg |
Looks good there, J! Real good. But the body... man, you should have told me
Cheers Daf |
looks good. seems like everyone has one of these little suckers now.
|
really nice, but believe me, you'll need the white spring!
Nice conversion, you'll love it:yes: |
Thanks guys.
David, I have already ordered the white springs. Daf, I know its not a sexy paint job, but sometimes god things come in plain whaite packages. I did order a 2nd body as well though.:mdr: I do plan on doing a proper paint job when I get some time. This one is temporary to get it up and running by this weekend is all. (Maybe I'll try to dupliacte my revo paint sceme:wink:) Gix, It sure does seem like everyone has one. I think its cuz they are a (relatively) cheap project, they are nice trucks and are pretty easy to do. I didnt really plan on doing this one.... the opportunity just kinda presented itself so I decided to do it. |
Heheh J, I was just playing. It's under the hood what counts.
|
Very nice truck man!! It looks great. Good luck at the parking lot race too.

wow, nice .5! really nice!!
personally, i like the white body. my design philosophy is 'simple is better' - i gag when i see those bodies painted with 6 different kinds of fluorescent paint with 4 different types of stripes, checks, flames and lightning all on the same body. |
Man, it has been a long work in progress. You got that puppy ages ago! Where'd you buy yours from? ;)
Looks M-azing though. That means it's amazing with M&M's to boot! |
Every time I see a CRT.5, it make me want one more & more
Good job, looks great! |

your car looks great . The more of these conversions i see the more i think i want to convert mine .
|
great looking conversion dude. I gotta say that these things are awesome trucks.
About your battery mount though... you're going to need something to stop the battery from popping out from the top in a crash. Mine is similar, and needed one too. A simple "L" shaped bracket does the trick nicely. Hey Dafni... does this mean you're willing to paint some bodies? I could use a buggy body...:yipi: |
Sweet! I like it! Very clean...
I remember when mine looked like that, but like most of my RC's, it turned into a "Frankentruck" (i.e. ext.chassis and 4s lipo). :lol:Although it is one of my better creations... Bye:smile: |
Thanks for the kind coments guys.:mdr:

And I bet Daf is up for doing custom paint work. I asked him to do a body for my Revo and it turned out AMAZING! I was actually going to post a thread on it, I just havent gotten around to it yet. I'll see if I can snap a couple pics soon so you can see the work he did for me. That man has more atristic talent in his little toe than I have in my whole body. He does really nice work.:great: |

jhautz is right, I'd love to do more paint jobs for RCM Members. Any requests are more than welcome. Here you can see my GALLERY Thank you! Daf |
The yellow and black w/ligntning Dessert Rat in Dafs gallery is now proudly mounted on my Revo.
Thanks again Daf.:great: |
You're welcome Mr Hautz, was a pleasure. Now post a pic!
The other Desert Rat, with electricity all over and the RCM Logo, is now in Mikes' possesion. As is the RC8 with the same sceme, look for it at the iHobby show  Thank all of you! Maybe I should start a thread here, to let people know I can paint for them?? Daf |
I'll get a pic taken and posted soon. I promise.
And yes, it would probably be a good idea to start a thread and link it to your gallery. |
nice looking bodies. I especially like the yellow desert rat.

Nice job - I remember that you and I had pretty much the same setup going (motor, esc, 3S batteries). How are your temps doing?
I have been running 17/46 and the speed is pretty potent. I have the 18 and 20 pinions and would like to try them. My esc temps have been around 140*, but I was using the MM BEC with 3S so that could explain. Just got the CC-BEC so waiting to get a chance to run it again to see temp are better. Peak power has been 722 watts at a peak current of 72Amps. Also, how are those tires doing. How is the ballooning at top speeds? I have the Dirt Hawgs and they balloon pretty bad at speed, I'd really like to find something that can handle the speed better. |
Daf if you ever need some shells to practice on LMK they are great! ;)

I havent really run it yet. I just finished it on Monday so hopefully this weekend it will get a good test run. I'm pretty sure it shoud be OK on temps. I was running my Lightning Staduim 10 on this motor w/ a MM and 4s a123 for a while and temps were fine. I was using a UBEC on the MM and have a UBEC set up on the crt.5 too. I also run these tires on the LS10 and they actually handle pretty well so I bought a set for the crt.5 too. Balooning isnt to bad, Traxxas sells these for use i=on the VXL Bandit which can run 70mph, so 45 should be no big deal for them. I'll let you know how it runs after I get it out and give it a workout. How does your Hacker 8L do on temps? |
Thx for the info. One more question - do the Traxxas tire mount properly to the stock CRT.5 wheels or did you have to get a different wheel.
I've been very happy with the temps running 17/46. I was bashing it hard for about 20 minutes and the temps never got above 115* while running. When I would stop and let it rest for a minute the temp would climb up a bit to about 125-130*, but that's all. I'm using the temp probe from the React mounted in the heatsink right above the end-bell. A temp gun confirms that the probe is accurate to within a few degrees at the hottest point on the motor. |
Yes they. Mount right on the stock wheels. Just get the bandit rear 2.2 tires. The rustler/jato 2.8 tires don't fit.
|
how much is a crt .5 w/o an engine
|
$275-280 in most shops - $250 on ebay.
