E-Revo Motor Selection
Which is best for a E-Revo 3.3 with the Tekno kit?
I'd like to run a mamba max esc on 3 or 4 cells. (lipo of course) ive been thinking the plettenberg maxximum, lehner 2230, or something with the most power output possible, that is usable with a MM esc. |
Since you're limited by the MM's 4s rating, that limits you somewhat. Shoot for ~30-32k rpm on the lower-end motors, and up to 40krpm for the higher end.
i want a motor thatll not cost more than 120 or so, and thatll give me as good torque as i can get. it also has to have a 5mm shaft.
a 9xl? i run that and it runs great with little heat probs
Well, there are really two options here at the site; a Feigao XL motor (~130 once you also get the heatsink/clamp), or a Neu motor, which upwards of $300 depending on size. Both have 5mm shafts.
oh and i also need something that isnt more than 74mm long, as per the conversion by tekno
Well, the Feigao XL motors are exactly 74mm long, but once you add the heatsink/clamp Mike has (almost required to keep the front bell from popping off), the total length goes to around 78mm. I would actually measure to see exactly how much room you have.
The Neu motors are shorter, but larger in diameter. Don't know if there are any diameter limits... |
well is there any other way to keep it from falling off without the extended length?
Well, you could probably come up with something home-made. Again, you might want to measure exactly how much length you have, there could be an extra few mm's to spare to make it work...
i dont have the rig yet, im going to find out what exactly to buy before i buy it.
I am partial to the Pletty!
I'm seriously considering a pletty maxximum. What do you think about that motor paired with a mm esc with 14 cells??

ok heres my proposed setup:
pletty maxximum with fan quark 65a esc 12-14 ib 4200 cells truck will be around 7.5 lbs. is tere any skid that alum or ti thats lighter than stock for a 3.3 chassis? im also running the proline 37 series velos and the proline 37's holeshots (apparently the lightest truggy rims and tires ever made, wheel 55g each, tires 122g each) |
your truck will weigh more than 7.5lbs trust me.
I'm also considering which BL motor to get for a Revo with the MM ESC. Does anyone know if the Novak HV 6.5 would run well on the MM even though it is sensored motor (I assume it would run as any other sensorless motor, right?) . It would probably be plenty peppy on 4s lipo, with good runtimes too.
How about the XLT1 from Fine Design. Use a HV heatsink and Chris will guarantee the motor ends to not pop off.
I run it in my 13lb. aftershock and it's great with the MM. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...x/CIMG0215.jpg |
I'm not gonna get started on Chris Fine, but that is nothing but a Wanderer motor he rebadged. Ever try and ask him the KV? I would never recommend Fine Design...
from what ive heard, i will never buy from them. ever. :gasp: id rather buy from untied hobbies. $50 for a XL 540 feigao. i think thats good!
Who else sells Feigao besides Mike and United?
there is no one else:lol:
mike is the man! |
mike is the man, but I needed my motor quick so I ordered from offshoreelectrics
because they are only a couple of states away from me. |
Thanks dirt!

So no one knows about running Novak HV6.5 on mamba? Also, I think that Novak HV heatsink would be sweet if it would keep the motor caps from popping off a feigao XL.

Sorry about switching topics. |
I don't see any way in hell it could magically keep the ends from popping off. Sounds like something CF pulled out his you know what. Mikes heatsink/clamp can obviously keep that from happening, but I see no way the HV one could do anything. The only thing I can even thing of as to why he said that would be if he sold them...Even then, he probably simply peens the ends so they don't pop off so easy. That way it looks like its the heatsink...
I was thinking about running the HV 6.5, partially due to the fact that towerhobbies has it for a good price, and it might run cooler and more efficiently than a 9XL.
It won't run cooler nor more efficient than a XL. High KV and a small rotor aren't really a receipt for good efficiency.

A lot of users have reported that the MM wont handle 14 cells either ....it just wont arm at start up....its internal voltage limit is like 20 volts or something......a freshly charged set of NiMh can be over 21 volts... So its 4s or twelve cells to stay safe. |
