What's the Best Truggy Servo?
Ok guys, what's the best Truggy steering servo? No bashing, just racing. I would really like hi-speed and hi-torque at the same time. Any ideas? Thanks!
|
I'd go for one of Futaba's new brushless motor servo's they're quick, fairly strong and are supposed to last 5x longer than most servo's.

The Airtronics 359 is pretty good, 0.10sec. and 200 oz./in. It's very fast with plenty of torque.
There's also the Hitec 5955-TG servo, which is a monster - 0.15sec. and 333oz./in. of torque. It's digital, and with all that torque, it feels extremely solid. Under a load, it feels like it's faster than 0.15sec (compared to the Airtronics 359 at 0.15sec.). I have the 359 in my Hyper 8, and when I had my Revo, it had a 5955-TG (now the 5955 is in my rock crawler). For a truggy, I would say go with a 5955. It's definitely more durable than the 359, and so will last longer between repairs. |
Nice, thanks for the tips guys. Right now I have the Airtronics 358 or 359 - can't remember which. It's nice, but I want more. I'm sure none of you can relate to that mentality, right? :mdr:
Great suggestions - any others I should consider? |
I say 5955TG, like metalman said...
|
I think I agree. I just checked the specs on that thing and it's insane. I love it. Looks like I'll be selling my Airtronics soon.
Not to mention everything else . . . time to start another conversion soon. :yipi: |
Nice choice, I've got the 5955-TG in my FLM savage, its a beast.
|
5955tg all the way! i have 7 of these and havn't had a problem with any of them. this is the only servo i will buy, unless its for 10th scale electric! can't go wrong. also, some of these are 2 years old or more!
|
Oh yeah, and if you're using a bec that you can adjust the voltage with such as CC's new one. You can pump it up to 6.5volts and it should give you about 370oz./in. of torque.
|
Thats what I do with mt CC BEC. Its really nice to be able to get that extra little oomph out of the servos. The CC BEC is the cats ass IMO.
That said... I have never had anything but good luck with the 358,359, 361 Airtronics serovs and they are kinda my default steering servo for trucks buggies truggies or whatever. As long as you set it up right and set your EPA you should have no issues with the steering servo you have lasting a while. At some point more just becomes more, not necesarily better. If you are running a 200 oz .10 sec servo now you probably wont really notice much difference in real world application unless you are running a rock crawler. |
go with the hitec it has massive torque and definatly feels faster than .15 feels like .11 or something. Very nice servo (use it in my 12lb maxx)

That's a new one for me. |
i run the 5955tg in my lsp. last race day, something in the steering was binding really bad, and the servo was actually tweaking the front of the chassis upwards about 5mm when i hard locked right.. strong servo :)
