Proof that if you pony up the cash, castle will make what you want.
|
Thats been around for a bit now, i think its a nice esc. The MMM will use a single board though, so i figure they will have better fets to run
|
do you think these would work in an e-revo w/ neu 1515 2.5d?
|
looks like a triple stacked MM with no heat sink to me.
I winder if GriffenRU could mate the MM brains to that board config. Would be sweet! |

Were you willing to get 100 of them made? I don't think they can get the car software on the hydra control board without a ton of time, matter of fact I know it would take a lot of programming. Stacking boards is a lot easier.
Personally I don't like the idea of an easily available SHV car controller. SHV planes take a ton of skill to pilot, you have to work up. SHV boats are in the hands of older skilled drivers as well, you won't find many 14 year old kids running 12s setups. Put a SHV car controller out and suddenly every 16 year old with a paycheck will want a 45 volt revo just because it will be the biggest and baddest on the block. No way in hell I would sell it unless I knew who was buying. The last thing I would want to hear about is how Billy shorted his 10s 4400 pack and blew his finger off with 8000 watts. Sorry for the rant, it is a discussion that I have had with a few ESC manufacturers and they all say the same thing about high voltage car setups: 6s is dangerous enough. I would love to have a 10s setup, but I don't trust the average RC car enthusiast with it. The folks on this site are for the most part WAY above average. |
Yeah no kidding... I completely agree with johnrobholmes.
My BL setups are pretty up there (no where as fast as some users), but my CRT .5 has enough juice to break 65 without a sweat if I put 4S into it. Normally it runs 3S (Lehner 1930/7 with a 17T pinion). Anyway, when that thing is going fullspeed, its pretty scary. I can only imagine if I were to plow that into my foot at a decent speed. Would leave me in a cast for a couple months no doubt. On the Traxxas forum I read enough about people crashing Revo 3.3's and Jato 3.3's...and while both of those are very fast trucks, they still have a pretty friendly throttle delivery when compared to high voltage brushless. The last thing we need is some dude with deep pockets wanting the fastest truck out there and then putting a hole in his neighbors house when he hits it doing 60mph, not to mention burning his own house down trying to charge the Lipos... |
a 45 mph 4S 10lbs heavy truck is a deadly weapon too. Consider that.
|
Oh, without a doubt. But a 10S 70+mph 10lb truck is much more dangerous...

Here we go again, time to ban kitchen knifes, people might cut themselves. Not to rain on your parade john, but this type of thinking really stops progress. If there is a demand for a product, let the mfgs make it. You can still put together a 12s powered vehicle and use an air hv esc and mech brakes. Just as dangerous without reverse. Plus the 16 yr old kid that would be willing to pony up for a hv esc and the lipos to run it most likely is not as dumb as you think. They have a large box in their house with 240v in it too, should we ban house wiring too? How about staircases, 16yr olds could fall down that too and hurt themselves. There are all kinds of potentionally hazardous items all around that are part of everyday life. Almost everyone over the age of 16 has the most potentionally dangerous item there is : a car. It only takes about 1hr to get a license to drive one and then you have roughly 2 tons of metal that can go at least 80mph. Think of the damage that can cause, both physical and property. And trying to say that the rc car segment of the market is not ready for hv while the boat and air guys are is ridiculous. It would be just as easy for a newcomer to pick air or boats as a starting point, it does not have to be cars. Also keep in mind that the cost of hv deters the newcomers. For most people a mamba 7700 in a ruster on 6 nimh cells is over the top. "Use at your own risk" seems to be obvious, like the 50 mph stock nitro monster truck, don't hit yourself, it will hurt! That goes without saying, its like stepping out into traffic. Common sense is required these days, no matter what you are dealing with. As an avid gun collector I deal with this sort of backward thinking all of the time. Idiots are constantly blaming guns for peoples deaths, instead of placing the blame where it belongs, with the operator. If you want a good example of unsafe things making our lives better look at the space program. Does it sound likea good idea to strap 7 people on top of tons of highly explosive gas and have hundreds of support personel all around it and then light it off? Good thing that the people involed thought that was a good idea, or most of our electrical inovations that we take for granted would not have been developed. If "Billy" cooks himself with his lipo I could care less. Maybe his dad should have been looking out for him. Maybe he should have read up about lipo safety frst. Sounds like you are just worried about natural selection: the kid who eats lead paint and plays in the street does not grow up to have kids of his own. This is the way it is meant to be. Being a safety Nazi is not going to cure that. If you don't like the idea of HV coontroller for cars them don't buy one. However the rest of us that can se one and would like it should have the oportunity. We are capatilist remember. That means that one person does not know best (communism). |

I would say this is a 'friend to friend' action, since the Mamba monster maxx is using a Neu type of motor. get it? Neu>castle..
|
I have to agree with lincpimp on this one. If I burn down my house or I let one of my kids do something to get themself or others hurt, thats on me. It shouldnt hold anybody else back.
|
I have sent drwings of my truggy and buggy designs to Mike and they will use HV set up 10S and up. I only see a hand full of companies that have or will have HV car controllers. Castle is just coming out with all sorts of ESC and instead of doing the smart thing of making a surface controller for cars and boats, no they make it for boats onley. In my opinion they could've spent some knowledge and make a car/boat controller and sell more and make more profits. I gues they don't know yet that higher quantity means more money.
|
being alert is okay, but over concerned is another thing.
What MIGHT happen IF.. you can think over thousand situations what can go wrong. |
Just being the devil's advocate here, and speaking from a manufacturing perspective. I agree that it is up the the parents or the kids to be responsible with the toys they buy. If I could buy a nice 12s car controller today I would (and then put it on my bicycle :D) From a manufacturers standpoint you have to think of the liability of the system, and cost/benefit of making it. I know 12s won't be any faster than 6s for most people, it will just be a runtime king with the same charge time as before. What I do know is that the car market has a different segment of users that are younger than the average plane and boat guy. I am also correct when I say "guy", as more than 95% if not 99% of us R/C addicts are indeed men. Go to RCgroups and see how many women you find there that are not there on business.
Now I'm out to ban kitchen knives and sharp forks!! For the childrens sake!! |
Why are people afraid of a little voltage. I'm freakishly afraid of high AMPs. High AMP products run hot actually they run very hot. Just imagine if a Taser had just 1A, it would be enough to kill a whale. A 6S set up will in fact be the same speed as a 12S set up, but my motor and ESC will in fact run much cooler and last longer.

I am not afraid of voltage, but respectful. I know that a 12s pack is likely to short across my fingers even when dry. 55v is the threshold for conduction through dry skin.
That old McDonalds lawsuit is where all of this crap started. The old lady spilled hot coffee on herself and sued McD because it burned her. Health regulation makes them keep the coffee above 140, skin burns at 120. I'm sure she wouldn't have spilled it on herself if they had the "hot" warnings on the cup back then. Yeah right... |
Yeah, that McD thing was a load of crap. When she went to court, the judge should have slapped her for being such a half-wit. Now the precedent has been set for all morons to be rewarded for their stupidity and lack of common sense.
:sigh: Now I'm all worked up and need to go have a cigarette (and then sue the cigarette manufacturers for lung cancer :sarcastic: ). |
Don't get too worked up over my comments. I want high voltage as much as the next guy :D Somebody gotta stir the pot around here.
|
I'm hoping to get HV controllers done for us . I have nver had a problem even at 60V which is the highest I went so far on my Schulze 40.160.

I'll just mention that I too agree 100% with BrianG, Lincpimp and whoever else agreed with them. Its survival of the fittest.... people have to watch what they buy and do everyday, and realize that all those things can be as dangerous as having a HV ESC and battery..... which isn't even that dangerous if you are careful and watch what you do.
|
I'm gonna have to agree with Linc. If your stupid enough to burn your house down, so be it. If you don't have enough common sense to do some so simple without killing yourself, them maybe it was for the best. Not to sound harsh or anything, but honestly, maybe thats what it takes. A few idiots burn there house down and all the other idiots get a clue to be somewhat cautious.

Speaking of natural selection- there was a news story a little while back about a boy who had just been swimming (holiday villa) and went indoors to play on his gameboy. Trouble is, he didnt dry his hands or anything else before plugging in the mains adaptor, and as a result got fried & died. Horrible I know, but it just goes to show the total lack of common sense and lack-lustre parenting on display; even I knew that electricity & water dont mix from a very early age. Now if you'll excuse me Im off to stick my fingers into a toaster, my hands are cold....

I have a toaster oven, so I can actually dry the dog in it after I wash him, works alot better than the microwave (had to get a new dog after that one). |
I got shocked by a 220v air conditioner when I was younger (much to young to grasp electricity). I thought it would be fun to poke around inside with a paperclip. I remember hearing a huge buzz, feeling like I was floating, and getting my ass knocked back a few feet.
My parents didn't teach me about electricity, I had to learn the hard way. My kids will certainly know different. |

There was an incident involving me, a pool and a tread mill. Sitting in a chair next to it drying off and somehow I just felt numb like wtf. Then lights flickered. I do think those shocking incidents had something to do with your electrical fixations. Oh and stirring the pot, are you Dirk Digler in disguise
|
I was repairing a 240v electric hedge trimmer when my gran decided to plug the power lead back in....
Imagine me lying on the lawn holding a now running electric hedge trimmer in one hand whilst flapping around until thrown clear! LOL! Taught me a lesson! |
We love HV. LOL.
|
same here only my grandfather, changing a light socket. "Is it on, flip" expletive deletive.
|
I used to experience similar things changing lightbulbs for my mum. I would ask if it was switched off before removing the dead bulb and putting in a new one, but I would still jump out of my skin when the new bulb suddenly lights up as I go to fit it.
|
Have any of you experienced a light bulb blowing up on your face? I had a few occasion that they just decided to blow up. Good thing I didn't have my contact lenses on when it happened.
